Chapter 10: Travel Companions!

"I have received a message from Mokuren-sama and will accompany Takuto-sama," said the crow with polite language.

The retainer of Gulp seems to be this crow.

I had imagined it would be a black dog, but I was wrong.

I envy the polite language that the crow uses, and it makes me want to improve my own language skills.

"Nice to meet you!" I pet the crow's head.

For now, I asked the white cat and the crow, "What is your name?"

Both of them answered, "We don't have one."

Since it's inconvenient and difficult to call them without a name, I asked, "May I give you a name?"

"We don't mind, but is it alright with Takuto-sama?" they replied.

"It's fine. Is there a problem?" Am I sounding anxious?

"Oh, no. It's fine."

I named the white cat "Shiro" and the crow "Kuro," which were simple but catchy names.

Come to think of it, I was often mocked for having no naming sense in my previous life...

As soon as I finished naming them, both of their bodies glowed for a moment.

"I, Kuro, shall serve Takuto-sama as my master from this moment on and do my best not to bring shame to the name you have given me," said Kuro, respectfully. Then, Shiro continued.

"I, Shiro, hereby pledge to devote my entire being to serving Takuto-sama for the rest of my life."

... What's happening all of a sudden?

I only gave them names, why are these two saying such things?

"Master, are you okay?"

As I was bewildered, Kuro spoke up with concern.

"Sorry, can you explain it to me since I don't quite understand?"

I decided to have Kuro explain it to me.

Naming magical beasts and spirit animals creates a lifetime master-servant relationship, but it requires a foundation of trust between the master and servant.

The named magical beasts are called "Name-fu" and some kind of change occurs in their bodies as proof of the master-servant relationship.

Indeed, Kuro's body has grown by one size and she has a ring on her left foot.

Shiro has no noticeable physical changes, but has something like a piercing on her left ear.

At the stage of becoming a "Name-fu," the "master-servant relationship" takes precedence over the "god's servant."

In the first place, it is impossible to build a relationship of trust with a "god's servant."

"I see! I didn't think there was such an important meaning. Is that why these two were so nervous?"

"No, becoming a Name-fu is a very fortunate thing for a magical beast! Many magical beasts end their lives without ever meeting someone who will become their master."
