8 The boy who tried to overcome adversity
"Anyways start!"
As soon as he said that Mineta began sprinting toward Ibara at incredible speeds, to the point where a lot of people's eyes widened, it was almost as if it was another quirk, Ibara turned her body around, and her vine-like-hair grew exponentially.
Just as Mineta was about to hit Ibara, he was smashed by a wave of vines across the arena, while in the air, Mineta threw a ball on the ground and landed on the ball which resulted in a little hop. Unfortunately, Ibara didn't give him any time to rest as Vines were coming from underground.
The second the vines erupted from the ground to capture Mineta, Mineta jumped to the right avoiding the vines. Right now, Mineta's speed and strength if we were to compare to Hashiras it's nowhere near their level, but with the total concentration breathing and harsh training he did before the festival, they are way above average.
But sadly...it wasn't enough, just as Mineta landed from his jump, the vines he dodge were already right next to him, they smacked him once again with even harder force making him fly across the arena. While Mineta was in the air he moved his body throughout the air and managed to land on his feet but the right side of his body has cuts all over from the thorns of Ibara's vines.
The force behind Ibara's hit was deadly, to the point that Mineta's body was aching already from the force, his right arm was trembling, it was bad, but recovery breathe was helping.
"OUCH! folks it seems that Mineta isn't looking too good right now, he has been smacked twice by Ibara's deadly vines, will he be able to defeat such an opponent?!?" Present Mic shouted, class 1-A was worried but surprised again, Mineta's movements were quite amazing.
Monoma of course was laughing and making fun of Mineta screaming at 1-A's face. Meanwhile, Mineta was glaring at Ibara's back, but suddenly...as if he was an actor, his face and attitude completely changed.
"...PFFTT, HAHAHHAHA" Mineta suddenly burst out laughing confusing not only the audience but his friends and the members of 1-A, just what was so funny? Tsuyu who was intently watching the fight was worried.
"Hey you, why are you holding back" Mineta said with a glare, his attitude and tone changing a complete 360, one moment he was laughing as if he heard the world's funniest joke and the other he was glaring at Ibara as if she just committed mass genocide while also being a descendant of Hitler.
Ibara didn't respond, holding back during a fight is one of the most disrespectful things to do during a fight, it shows that your opponent isn't worth all your strength, so when Mineta asked this question, she couldn't respond.
"Not going to respond huh, well do me a favor, stop holding back" Mineta said, he then grabbed balls from his head and through them all over the arena, he did this in the span of a few seconds, while he was doing this Ibara Vines traveled from under the arena, finally once the vines reached Mineta but instead of grabbing him from under, they flared up in front of him, like a tsunami.
Mineta jumped back trying to avoid the tsunami of vines, he threw a ball behind him and he landed on it, and with all his strength, Mineta pushed himself against the purple ball, and then jumped up with the boost of his purple ball, the jump was high enough to surpass the tsunami of vines.
But even that wasn't enough, while in the air, Mineta saw to his right how more vines broke from the ground and that's when he knew, he was fucked...he couldn't do anything...yet...he had a smirk on his face...
*BOOM*
Mineta was slammed to the ground by the vines, the impact was so great it created a small crater and on impact, he had to grit his teeth to prevent a scream of pain. Mineta's back was killing him, everything was hurting, for the first time in his life, pain was all he felt.
The vines were holding on to Mineta's leg, he had no weapon, no strength, his quirk was useless, and last but not least he was immobile. Finally, it began, there was nothing but silence throughout the stadium.
The audience, class 1-A, 1-B, the teachers, and the pro heroes, watched as Mineta slowly stood up as if Ibara was granting him mercy, everyone knew that the better option was for him to give up.
Yet he didn't, he slowly stood up, and with his bare hands, he grabbed the thorny vines, which started damaging his hands and he started ripping off his legs. Suddenly, he began talking, he didn't care if people could hear him or not, he just started talking while slowly ripping off the vines.
"Throughout my life, I was never good at anything, I was always below average at everything, I never had any ambitions, but then one day, I saw a hero, a weak one, go against a villain, although, he didn't have the strength to defeat it, he still bravely fought to protect the citizens, and that's when I realized. Heros don't care about whether they win or lose, they don't care if they're good at their job what they care about is if the citizens are safe, and that's when I realized...heroes are cool" Mineta finished, finally ripping off the final piece of vine from his leg.
His hands were bloody, full of scratches and holes, and the only people who could hear his speech were midnight, Cementoss, and Ibara. Present Mic wanted to comment but Aizawa stopped him from commenting. He had the feeling that something was happening.
'I always wondered, what happened to Mineta? the one before me? did you disappear? did you perish? die? I will never know, but I do know one thing, I can remember the day you wanted to become a hero, the emotion you felt as you watched that hero, even I can feel that emotion now, maybe the reason I also want to become a hero is because of that feeling, you had your dreams, and I have mines, but one thing is for sure...I'll become the hero you wanted to become in your stead, while also becoming the hero I want to become...' Mineta thought, although nobody could see it, for the first time, Mineta had a warm smile on his face, but that smile soon disappeared as a wave of vines squashed him to the ground.
The arena was full of cracks created by Ibara and she had a tear going down her cheek, she no longer wanted to fight Mineta, the fact he was so defenseless against her made her feel like she was just tormenting him. After a few seconds, Mineta was still under the mountain of vines, and finally, with nothing but silence throughout the stadium...the match came to an end...or did it?
"Shiozaki advances t-" Before Midnight could finish, she had to stop talking after what she and the audience started seeing, the balls that Mineta spread throughout the arena started...floating.
Ibara, Kaminari, Tsuyu, Aizawa, Izuku, every single person that was watching was in pure shock, even Shigaraki who was watching. Everybody knew that Mineta couldn't control his balls like that, well...now he can. Finally, after everything he did, following every single step of the book, he did it...the quirk awakening.
All the balls floated in the air, and suddenly they started reforming themselves, after a few seconds, they took the shape of swords, the substance of the ball, it went from being soft and bouncy to as hard as steel.
The purple swords instantly flew toward Mineta at incredible speeds,...
*BOOM*
All the swords flew right into the thorny vines that were covering Mineta like a blanket, the impact of the sword was enough to create an explosion of dust and vines. A few seconds passed and people patiently waited for the dust to disappear to see what was going on.
Finally, everyone could see it, a purple-haired boy who no longer had balls on the top of his head, his body which currently was going through a change, a very big change, was covered in cuts, parts of his uniform torn off, showing his lean build.
"A-a-h I don't even know what to say" Present Mic commented, with his glasses falling off his face with his eyes widened just like everyone else.
The swords that freed Mineta had entered his body, his quirk was now...very amazing, suddenly, everyone's expectations were through the roof, they thought that this battle was going to get even more amazing.
Mineta took one step which sent shivers down everyone's spine and suddenly...
*bang*
He collapsed...everyone just stared...a wind flew by as if it was making fun of everyone...but what nobody could see was the smirk on Mineta's face, he was happy, after all, it all went according to his plan.
....
Mineta slowly started opening his eyes, once he fully opened them he found himself in a space of nothingness, everything around him was nothing but white, and in front of him was an 11-year-old Mineta wearing a pajama full of grape emojis.
The 11-year-old Mineta stared at his older version, while his older version looked at him, both -having serious expressions, suddenly, 11-year-old Mineta talked first.
(I'll be referring Mineta as Mineta(T) and the 11-year-old Mineta as Mineta(Y)
"Are you a bad guy?" he asked, Mineta(T) stared right at his eyes and replied, "No"
Mineta(Y) then looked as if he was thinking and asked another question, "then are you a hero?" Mineta(T) chuckled at the question.
"I'm trying to become one" He said, once again there was nothing but silence, but then Mineta(T) asked a question, he figured that if Mineta(Y) was talking about heroes and Mineta he must really like them.
"Do you want to become a hero?" Mineta(T) asks, Mineta(Y) grew a giant smile, "YES!" He exclaimed, Mineta(T) smiled at his reaction.
Mineta(T) walked toward Mineta(Y) and crouched right in front of him, getting his face to Mineta(Y) level, he extended his right hand and flicked Mineta(Y) forehead, "ow"
"What was that for" Mineta(Y) said while massaging his forehead, "that pain you felt, heroes feel it but 100 times worst, even while knowing this, would you still become a hero?" Mineta(T) asks, Mineta(Y) started thinking again, and after a few seconds.
"YES! Because that's part of a hero's job!" Mineta(Y) exclaimed with a smile, Mineta(T) also started smiling, the kid sure was cute.
After that, Mineta(T) and Mineta(y) talked for what seemed to be hours, Mineta(T) completely ignored the time passing and just talked to whoever this was, he didn't have a clue if it was his consciousness or if this was a dream, but they just talked, until...
Mineta(Y) was staring out in the distance which confused Mineta(T), "you're going to be leaving soon" Mineta(Y) said, Mineta(T) was taken back but understood that he was probably gaining consciousness or waking up.
Mineta(Y) turned his head to look directly at Mineta's (T) eyes, before Mineta(T) could say anything, Mineta(Y) asked a question...or should I say several
"Can you promise me that you'll become a great hero?"
"I promise"
"A hero that always defeats the villain?"
"That'll be me"
"A selfless hero?"
"sure, I don't even care about many things"
"A hero who outshines the darkness?"
"I'll outshine it to the point there's not a speck of darkness"
"A hero who fights till the very end?"
"Of course"
"A hero whose big and strong?"
"I'll grow plenty"
"A hero who is always there to save the day?"
"I'll always be there"
And finally, Mineta(Y) asks his final question, "...Can you...become my hero?"
Mineta(T) eyes widen, he saw how Mineta(Y) was tightly holding his pajama while his hands were trembling, a second passed and he smiled, a very big heartwarming smile grew on Mineta(T) face, "Of course, I'll become your hero"
Mineta's (Y) eyes widen, and he then leaped into Mineta(T) with a big smile, he hugged Mineta(T) with all his strength, and said his last words, "then go...my hero!"
Suddenly, Mineta felt memories he never had before entering his mind, and that's when he realized, these were the memories he was missing, and also, this was the Mineta before him! He had so many questions but before he could say anything to Mineta(Y)...everything turned black...Finally, Mineta was Mineta.
