5 Studying in Another World

The remainder of the weekend was spent studying in the library and training my body with Captain Lloyd. Surprisingly, my luck seemed to have boosted my potential stat increases as I had received a notification at the end of the day on Sunday telling me I had received +0.01 in my constitution stat. It was a small gain, but a gain nonetheless. Today I would be meeting with my tutors to discuss an effective curriculum for myself so that I could be ready to enter the Royal Academy after I turn 14. My physical training was cancelled today so that I could fit it around the tutoring sessions. I was waiting patiently in the library while the tutors decided in what order they would present themselves. We had agreed that I would meet with each one individually to figure out where my base knowledge of the subject was at. After determining where it was, the next tutor would come and so on. This would allow the tutors to create a study plan while I was in discussion with the next tutor.

The subjects that I would be studying are similar to the ones I had studied back home: history, mathematics, policy, military strategy, reading and writing, and management. I was confident in most of the subjects that were similar to the ones back on Earth, but the more world specific topics would trip me up a little. Even with the extensive game knowledge I had, it would be tedious having to learn every single relationship and historical event in a different world. I gave out a small sigh as I recognized this, and watched the door open as the first tutor came into the library.

"Good morning master Ray, I'm Professor Theodore Rosenthal." He extended his hand for a handshake, and I immediately obliged.

"I will be in charge of teaching you mathematics. I have with me a small quiz for you to take so that I can ascertain your current level." He then proceeded to take out a sheet of paper with some math problems on it. I couldn't help but laugh inside because of their simplicity. I may not have been a genius in my previous world, but I did graduate from university. I looked over the exam and figured that I could do all of the problems, however, I wasn't sure if it would be the best decision to get them all right on my first try. Since I was supposed to have been bedridden for most of my life it wouldn't make sense that I would know everything there is to these topics. I thought it over for a second as I began the quiz. In the end I decided to get 80% of them correct so that it seemed believable. It would also allow me to to "learn" from the tutor and hopefully get into his good graces for the mission.

Theodore looked surprised while grading my quiz, but quickly regained his composure when he got to the areas I purposefully got incorrect.

"Master Ray, I would like to congratulate you on achieving an 80% on the quiz! As someone who hasn't been able to study much, I am impressed that you were able to complete most of these problems. Did you perhaps study before today in anticipation or receive any type of help?" His eyes were clear and meaningful while saying this to me. It seemed as though he was happy with the quiz's results.

"Yes, I did study these past few days for the tutors. I wanted to make sure that I was ready for the knowledge you all would give me today. I did receive help from my servant Anabelle as well during my study sessions. I want to catch up with all the other nobles that are my age so I can't be made fun of!" I said the last part with a bit of a pout because I knew how competitive nobles were in any world. We went over the problems that were not solved correctly before leaving the study.

The next three hours or so was very similar the experience I had with Theodore, but with varying levels of success. I had never done military strategy before, and the classes that were more specific to this world had me struggling a bit. Luckily, it seemed that my tutors were impressed with my base knowledge level. After they had all quizzed me, they congregated for a bit to create a weekly schedule for me. The schedule was reminiscent of my high school class schedule with it starting in the morning and going all the way until the afternoon, of course, they didn't forget to include two breaks during the day so I wouldn't burn myself out. I bid the tutors farewell once I had looked over the schedule.

I spent the rest of the day studying with Anabelle in the library on the subjects that concerned me the most, along with anything related to mana control. Considering my wisdom and intelligence stats, it wouldn't be too far fetched that I would soon be able to use mana. Mana was an interesting concept to me in EoR. Not all characters had mana, and mana was not hereditary despite what most nobles believed. The intelligence and wisdom stat usually were clues to mana potential, but there were characters that had no mana yet had high stats in both. Even if I couldn't unlock mana now, I knew there were multiple ways through the game in which I could unlock it myself.

Some things I had picked up during the tutoring was the relationships between the noble families. The three ducal families are Glouse, Hartsford, and Ludile. Hartsford was a family gifted in swordplay while Ludile was gifted in magic. Surprisingly, in this world all three families were harmonious and worked together quite often. There had been many marriages between the three families, and the last major war had only been a little over a century ago. This last point was an important one because it meant that the alliances made during the war and the memories from them would last long enough for the next disaster. Along with this information, I learned a bit more about the other empire on the continent, the one we were at war with in the past. They had deposed their emperor after the war, and are currently being led by a council formed by their ducal families.

The game didn't explore much about this empire called Pulina, but certain recruitable characters were from the nation. After looking over the topics that I was less knowledgeable in, I decided to call it a night so that I could be ready for the classes tomorrow. I had urged them that I wanted to start as soon as possible so that I could close the gap I had with the other noble children. I would also have my physical training again in the morning before my classes, so getting a good night's rest would be mandatory for as long as I continued with this regiment. I couldn't hold my excitement in while in bed, this is the stuff that always got me excited in games. I loved grinding levels and stats whenever I could so that I would be overleveled for any potential fights later down the road. I was essentially trying to do that with myself right now, and with those thoughts I drifted off to sleep.
