15 CHAPTER 14

"then I'll come with you," I internally click my tongue at her antics. Is she doing this because she knows Takashi won't let her go and she can get brownie points? I have very little patience for this girl in my head. Maybe I'm taking things too far. This is a bad habit of mine; when I don't like someone I don't like everything about them, subjectively she's doing the right thing. No one can make an argument against that but subjectively? please.

"No, you're needed here, we have to pack up, we won't be able stay here anymore. Wake up the others. Saeko and I will get started on the things we need," and of course she's annoyed at me for being right. You know sometimes I really want to be wrong about someone then they go and do things like this. Am I that bad at hiding my distaste of her?

Takashi sees this and he takes her hand in his reassuring her and smiling a little. Does he think this is funny? Perhaps proud of Rei. The boy mind works in strange ways. That's my girl is probably what he's thinking right now. Idiots, the lot of them.

So we go around grabbing anything that is essential. Food and water come first, then clothes, staying dirty and risking disease is not on our to do list right now. Of course I make sure to take out our ammo supply and weapons. These are the most important tools right now. I want a handgun but the only one we have right now is really not my style.

I should make arm guards, leg guards as well. Those things can save a life. A full suit of medieval knight armor would be better but I'm getting off course. What about neck and shoulder guards? That's usually where the zombies strike first. These girls are also still wearing their skirts. They can't be serious. We need a wardrobe upgrade ASAP. Wardrobe that's funny, the drobes of war. Where do I even come up with these things?

I make more soda can bombs while I'm at it too. I'm really loving the easy life here. This is a perfect opportunity to thin out the herd. I hope I won't set anything on fire but these people probably deserve it. Or maybe they don't. This is a great moral dilemma. Where both sides are right and wrong at the same time. The only one who loses though is the one here is Alice , poor kid, just lost her dad, mom's probably dead or worse and if it wasn't for us she would have died. Life is really unfair sometimes, I don't mind it I just want to be on the favored side most of the time.

We go out into the road with Shizuka in the driver's seat. She is our designated driver. I've always wondered with her types. Do they choose to be aloof on most matters in life. I've seen her in action, she knows her stuff yet when it comes to anything else she's no better than a child. Maybe she sees something that I don't.

Takashi should be getting peed on right now. That guy should definitely not be allowed into the car smelling like that. Matter of fact the child too. Who told her to have terrible time management. This is the apocalypse, get it together people.

Saeko is on top of the Humvee wearing nothing but an apron. Curse this world's logic. I hate it and I love it at the same time. I'll go for support with my shotgun. It does AOE damage. More kills for me. I wonder how many kills I've amassed so far. It doesn't tell me and I most definitely haven't been counting.

I wish I was a gamer… on second thought I'm fine. While I can't deny its advantages also can't ignore it's drawback. The system actively works against you. It needs you to keep playing. It will do anything to achieve it's goal all the while chipping away at your mental stability.

We find Takashi standing on the on the on the stonewalled fence of the house with Alice on his back. His eyes light up like Christmas morning. That can't be right, mornings are normally accompanied by the sun, the greatest source of natural light. It doesn't make any sense that the lights would be on at that time. Perhaps it's only for rich people, maybe that's why their kids get all the good gifts while the rest of us losers get nothing.

"Hey Saya, which road will we be using to get to the other side of the river from here,"

"The left, why?"

"You'll see," I'm trying to be mysterious but I don't know if it's working.

I use the hatch to lift myself up to the roof of the vehicle and shoot a few shots to attract zombies. Saeko has taken the left side of the street and is making good progress on the horde in that direction. Not as good as my gun but to each their own. The zombies turn their heads in our direction and begin marching.

I throw the first bomb at the horde in front. Instantly they light up like Christmas eve. That's better. Fire is a beautiful thing. I once had the privilege of watching my school dorm burn. The way the night sky lit up in a brilliant orange glow. The smoke billowing in thick black clouds. The pungent smell of burning. It was magnificent, artistic even. I wasn't even upset about losing all my belongings in the process. It was worth it.

In a similar fashion the undead lit up the streets. This however, was the limit of that amazing night. The zombies seemingly unaffected by the flames that devoured their corpses continued their march until they succumbed to it. It was really boring let me tell you. Leave it to zombies to ruin even fire.

"Wow, what was that?" Shizuka marveled. A bomb Shizuka, that was a bomb.

"Did I miss something back at the house, where did you get those?" Kohta muses. He seems to be enjoying the show.

"Is there anything you can't do?" Kikyo wonders out loud.

My colleagues on the other hand seem pretty impressed by the lousy display of power. It matters not. This will serve to increase my standing among them because of my resourcefulness.

It seems I managed to impress even our local genius. She has her mouth hanging open in utter disbelief of what she has just witnessed. You ain't seen nothing yet.

"Enjoying the scenery Takashi? Get in,"

"Uh what? Oh right of course, just give me a moment,"

I turn my attention to our local psycho, "Saeko, come back. We're done here," she makes her way back to us.

Shizuka slams the gas pedal when we're all inside. Well most of us. I stay halfway up on the hatch. I'm not letting those kills go. I manage to hit a few more hordes. Thank you greater body and retreat to the safety of our ride. It's not long until my nose is assaulted by the foul stench of pee. Curse you greater body.

"What is that smell?" Alice drops her head in shame. At least you have a conscious.

"Oh that would be me. Sorry," Takashi rubs the back of his head. Fool you think this is some show where you'll play it off by laughing like an idiot.

"You peed your pants? Are you that scared of zombies?" I mock. Kikyo laughs a little likely knowing what I'm doing.

"What?! No! It's just-"

"Change. Now," I hand him a change of clothes. He can't really refute at this point. And with that we survived day two.
