Oddity

A day before the first sparring day, Char was training by himself after the class had ended, he had always been training every day after class.

In the class, Char only trained his body, out of the class, he trained his swordsmanship with the skeleton as he believed technique was also important to get stronger.

For the first time since he got his summoned creature, Char sent his consciousness into the soul container, he wanted to know how many levels his skeleton had gained from a week of training.

Soul container was designed to Show the summoned creature's data in his head when he sent his mind into it.

At the topmost was the creature's races and name, the race was shown as Undead Skeleton while its name was Bone as Char had named it bone so he could address it easily.

Under the name was the summoned creature level or to be exact was the mana level it had accumulated.

Char found out that the Skeleton had reached level 4 from a week of hellish training, it might look fast but the higher the level is the harder for it to go up.

He had heard his classmates bragging about reaching level 5 and 6, their training method was way more efficient than Char who needed to kill and resummon his summoned creature.

"Ugh... I'm still lagging behind everyone, at this rate they will leave me behind," Char lamented.

The next day, they would fight each other in a sparring session, he bet there would be a lot of people who wanted to fight him as he was one of the weakest in the class.

Char was not keen on losing, he wanted to show them that he would be able to surprise them even with a skeleton.

Char went deeper into the soul container to his summoned creature's soul, the innate magic circle was in the soul.

The user interface of the soul container could not simplify the magic circle into names as there was too much magic and every summoner could make their own original magic for the summoned creature.

That was what Char wanted to do, in order to surpass his classmates, Char could not fight them with undead skeleton's basic ability, they lack lethality and only make the creature more durable.

Char looked at the magic circles, they looked so simple as he could make his own summoning circle that was way more complicated than this entry-level magic circle.

When he looked at the first magic circle, he could see regeneration rune, healing rune, dominating rune, and bone rune. If he did not see it wrong then this is the magic circle for bone regeneration magic.

To add a single rune, he would use one level of the summoned creature, because the skeleton was level four, then Char could add three runes to the magic circles.

Of course, there was a limit of rune he could add to the magic ability, for a common creature, the limit of the magic rune once the magic circle was six, only when the creature gets into knight rank that the limit increased.

Char continued to the next magic circle to check it out, he would need to plan on how to spend his accumulated mana level to use them as efficiently as possible.

The second magic circle was constructed from resistance rune, anti rune, force rune, and impact rune.

It was the physical resistance magic circle, it was one essential magic for the undead skeleton as they would be too vulnerable to blunt force without it.

It was possible to upgrade it to full physical immunity but the number of runes needed would be beyond the limit of a common creature, the summoned creature would at least need to be count rank to have such high-level magic.

When Char was about to get back to the first magic circle, he found something odd in the soul container.

There was an extra magic circle in it, normally a common creature would be limited to two magic circles, they would only be able to create the third magic circle when they were about to level up into higher ranking creatures, but here Char found the third magic circle.

When he checked it, Char found out that it was an incomplete magic circle with only two runes in it, the first one was a mana rune while the second one was an unknown rune, Char did not recognize it.

Char looked through his memory but he could not find the rune in any book that he had ever read, he would need to research more to know about it.

With the incomplete magic circle, Char had three options, the first one was to add a rune into the bone regeneration magic circle, he could add a flesh rune so it becomes bone and flesh regeneration.

Char hoped that the skeleton might be able to grow some muscle if it had flesh regeneration, even if it did not give the skeleton any change, Char could use the magic on himself and make him able to heal from any flesh wound, it would take one mana level to accomplish,

The second option was to add a slashing and piercing rune, it would upgrade the physical resistance of the skeleton so it would also be resistant to both slashing and piercing, it would take two levels in total.

The last option was to complete the third magic circle, a complete magic circle needs at least four runes, so Char would need to spend two-levels on it.

Adding on more abilities was better than upgrading one or two abilities, but the problem was Char did not know what the unknown rune did so he could not control the result of his modification.

With mana rune in it, there was a lot of possibility for the complete magic circle, if he adds gathering and absorption rune, it could help the summoned creature to absorb mana from the surrounding.

If he adds momentum and crystal run it could be projectile magic too, but it was assumed that the unknown rune did not do the magic's purpose.

In the end, the prospect of leveling up faster was too tempting for Char to let go, Char decided to complete the third magic circle.

He added an absorption rune and gathering rune on the incomplete magic circle to complete it, Char did not know if it would really allow The skeleton to absorb mana actively but it was worth a try.

Char checked the mana level in his interface, the skeleton had lost two-level and currently on level two.

"I hope this is working," he thought to himself while pulling his mind out of the soul container.

He directly summons the skeleton and mana starts to gather to construct the skeleton's body, within a second an undead skeleton appears in front of Char.

Char did not even get the chance to command it to use the new magic when it suddenly exploded into dust.

It startled Char at first but knowing such a thing could happen when a creature gets a new unfamiliar ability, he ignored it and waited until he could summon the skeleton again.

After a minute, Char re-summoned the skeleton which exploded again, right after it got summoned.

It took Char summoning it ten times before it stopped exploding right after it got summoned, the skeleton appeared in front of him and stood there waiting for his command.

"Finally," he thought in relive, Char was getting desperate, he thought about dismantling the magic circle because he thought it was a failed product

If a magic circle was a failure, then the summoned creature would die right away and unable to be summoned no matter how much time it died.

Luckily, the magic circle was a success or Char would have wasted two-levels and it would make him being left further by his classmates.

Char commanded the skeleton to use the magic ability while he himself moves a dozen meters away from it.

The explosion from failing in using magic was bigger and way more deadly than when the creature died right after it was summoned.

The skeleton tried to use the magic it just got from Char's self-created magic circle, as soon as it activates the magic, mana started to gather to its body but before as second passed it exploded on itself from being unable to use the magic properly.

"Wow, that was horrifying, if I used the magic myself the I would be the one exploding!" Char thought in amazement.

The summoner could use their summoned creature's magic but their proficiency would be the same with the summoned creature.

So Summoner would usually wait until their creature fully adapts to their magic before borrowing their summoned creature's magic.

It took Char a lot of time to keep summoning the skeleton because it keeps exploding every time it uses the magic ability.

It has been more than thirty tries and it still could not use the magic properly, until at some point it generates a vortex of mana that pulls mana from everywhere around it.

"It works?!"
