Life and Death

"What kind of orc is that?" they looked at it with wide eyes as it was the first time they saw an orc with long feet and could jump very high.

It was coming At Char and Aya beside him, they could see the ax was covered by flaming red mana as it came down upon them.

The girl and her summoned creature react to the incoming attack by lancing their magic at it. A solid light beam hit the orc as they cast smite.

But to their surprise, it did not get knocked back. Its ax cut the light as if it was a butter touching hot knife!

"No!" Char thought as he tried to recover as soon as he could. He focused his mind on the reconstruction magic and tried to heal his body.

He could see a lot of minor problems from Aya's healing, it was not as perfect as his reconstruction as it followed how the body normally regenerates.

Char had optimised his body so it would be perfect, but after the quick first aid given by the girl, there was some error. He could feel his power dropping by a bit, but he did not have time to nitpick and correct the error.

"It's my mistake to storm alone and get hit by that orc. Luckily I survived," he thought as he threw all the bones he had on him at the orc.

"Skelly!" he shouted at the skeleton that readily activated the mana absorption magic on the bones. It exploded right when it collided with the incoming orc.

The explosion was enough to stop the orc's momentum that it fell before reaching Char. It landed with a boom as its heavy body created a dent on the ground.

The skeleton stopped throwing bones and went toward the orc while it still dazed from the fall; it activated all of its magic so it could reach the orc in time.

The skeletons' bone sword was about to touch the orc's body, then it suddenly used the shaft of its ax to block the attack.

"Its movement is way too fast! How is that possible?!" Char looked in shock while he tried to heal himself.

The orc moved way faster than any orc he even saw; it was even faster than the imp or the skeleton with haste activated.

Even then the orc roared in pain as the ax only blocked the bone sword while the astral blade went through the weapon and dealt damage to its soul.

"That's a swift orc! One evolution branch of orc, they are fast and way smarter than the typical orcs!" Aya suddenly said while the other wondered about the orc.

"What? How is that fair? Smart and fast orc is a cheat!" Char could not help but complain.

It being smart means its way more difficult to deal with, and it's likely that the orc has a more resilient soul than the orc berserker.

He had fought the orc berserker for a long time before he could kill it. With this orc, it might take longer!

"Aya, do you know its weakness?" he asked the girl as she recognized the orc.

"Its regeneration is not as strong as the other orcs but that it, over all its better than other orc types of the same tier," she said as she sent another smite at the orc, trying to cover for the skeleton that was having a hard time attacking the orc.

The skeleton could only defend as the orc was too fast and physically stronger. At first, it could heal some damage with its astral blade, but after a while, the orc learned its lesson.

It knocked the skeleton backward each time their weapon collided, causing its astral blade to be pulled back by the body as the blade could not leave the body too far.

"We need to do something," Char thought, but the other was busy fighting the other orcs. For some reason these groups did not stop attacking when the knight-tier orc joined the fight.

"It is too fast for us to attack it, its regeneration also not that slow!" he lamented as he could see the wound created by the previous explosion already healed.

"Aya, can you heal from far away?" he asked the girl beside him.

"I can, but it will not be as effective and will consume more mana. Don't tell me you want to join the fight? You haven't recovered yet!" she protested.

"I'm fine, I already healed most of my injuries. And it is not me that I want you to heal," he told her.

"Huh? What do you mean?" she asked in confusion.

"I want you to heal the orc, and don't stop until I tell you to stop," he told her his idea.

"What? Why would you want that? It's a waste of mana, and why would I help our enemy?!" she got even more confused.

"Just believe me! Whether we can kill this orc depends on you!" he told the girl as he joined the skeleton in the melee.

It was having a hard time fighting the orc, its bone sword was chipped all over and it also misses some bones.

Aya reluctantly followed his order, she put back her doubt and decided to believe in him, "You owe me an explanation after this," she mumbled in frustration.

It was a matter of life and death, Char could not waste time explaining to her that he wanted to overheal the orc.

Its healing and her healing would overlap and would definitely cause more damage than healing to the orc.

He got the idea from his fear of making mistakes when he used his reconstruction magic. Although the orc and her healing work in different ways, he believed both would clash with each other, causing the same effect.

"I just need to last long enough for that to happen," he thought as he tried to circle behind the orc, but it was not stupid enough to let him do that. It positioned itself so both the skeleton and Char were always visible to it.

"I'm starting to hate this smart orc," he grimaced as he blocked an attack from the orc.
