175 175 How to Be a Good Lawyer by Phoenix Wright and Edgeworth

People looked at Allen's absolute confidence, which was quite strange because Allen didn't seem to have any experience or skill as a lawyer.

Many lawyers were watching the live stream, and they all had the same opinion: if willpower were enough to replace six years of studying law, why the heck did they need to do it?!

While Allen was becoming the enemy of most lawyers in the world, he had a secret plan, and that's why he was so confident.

Previously, the system had acquired the ability to identify skills within chests. This ability increased until it could currently see everything from purple rank downwards.

While all the previous chests had been consumed to enhance "Save Point", previously called "Second Chance", Allen was constantly generating more golden tickets and, consequently, more chests.

One of the chests contained a book called "How to Be a Lawyer in Five Minutes" by Phoenix Wright and Edgeworth. Allen opened the book, and it disappeared as the knowledge was absorbed. A smile formed on his face as he felt confident.

===

Gwen – He's...

Natasha – Yeah...

Diana – It's his look...

MJ – It's the look of "I have a brilliant idea, but it's really stupid" -_-

===

Allen ignored the sarcasm from his Chat, although he admitted he didn't like the distrust in the eyes of the women closest to him.

[Host, perhaps that knowledge isn't accurate to use in your world...]

"Nonsense! Everything I learned makes me trust the skills I just acquired!"

Allen stood up from his chair. "To begin with, there are two things I would like to point out. Firstly, this kind of interrogation is too one-sided and relies too much on speculation."

Allen pointed out how they portrayed what Tony's technology was like and the consequences of it falling into the hands of criminal groups, but so far no one had managed to do so.

He also pointed out the insistence on portraying Tony as a criminal without acknowledging the number of people he had saved.

"Mr. Walker, this is not a trial, there's no need for a lawyer."

"Objection!" Allen interrupted aggressively, addressing the judge. He wasn't stupid; he knew this wasn't a trial; just pointing out there was no jury. However, if they wanted to use these dirty methods to snatch Tony's technology, Allen would use his power to force an unorthodox trial.

"Your honor, you can't allow this!"

As expected, the men in uniform were not happy, and a Colonel was the one who shouted at this.

"Colonel Sanders, there's no need to get worked up," said the chief judge. "Mr. Walker, if this continues, I'm afraid I will have to cancel this session and postpone it for another date."

Tony smiled as he sat; although someone capable of blocking the signal from his satellite had surprised him, it wasn't impossible to do. Thanks to Allen, he had time to prepare for next time, and that was already a miraculous victory.

===

– What?! :v

– Wait, I think this is good!

– Yeah, just look at the Colonel's face and the other military guys :0

– That son of a b*tch did it O.o

===

The spectators didn't have confidence in Allen, but somehow he managed to postpone the interrogation/trial, or whatever it was.

The judges weren't happy either, but they had to give in. While Allen was a reasonable person and had achievements that made him a force for good, it shouldn't be forgotten that he wasn't a saint; his Supervillain identity in DC and his actions under the influence of alcohol made him unpredictable.

As a result, the military, judges, reporters, and even Tony Stark himself decided it was best to put this aside.

The judge took a sip of water and prepared to finish.

"Objection!" Allen shouted, making Tony and the judge spit out their water.

"Mr. Walker?" The judge, like many others, was annoyed but managed to contain himself.

"What are you doing?!" Tony whispered angrily, his eyes turning bloodshot.

"I don't think it's appropriate to postpone this until an important issue is addressed."

"..."

"My client, Mr. Tony Stark, is risking his reputation, his technology, and even his emotional stability, not only here but also fighting crime. However, those who defame him and claim to care about the country are the first to think only of themselves."

"What do you want, Mr. Walker?"

"I want, before questioning whether Antony Stark is suitable to have his monopolized armor technology, to question the integrity of the plaintiffs!"

"Are you questioning our integrity!?"

"Yeah"

The high-ranking officials, Generals, Colonels, and even the Secretary of Defense who was watching this from his office railed against such an accusation. Even Tony, who was the embodiment of being brazen, wouldn't pick a fight with the entire army.

"Objection!" Allen turned angrily to the row of generals. "If you are as honorable, honest, and responsible as expected, you have nothing to worry about. It's just to prove your integrity." Allen's gaze turned dark. "Or do you have something to hide?"

The high-ranking officials put their anger aside and calmed down; there was an exchange of looks, and then a look towards the judge, who nodded.

"Mr. Walker, given that this is not a trial and proper procedures are not being followed, this depends a lot on the will of both parties. Tell me what method you will use, and we will evaluate if it is reliable and safe for everyone."

Allen nodded and gave a thumbs-up to Tony as if he had achieved something. Tony wanted to assault and strangle him when he saw this.

Allen smiled at everyone, including the spectators, and put his hand in his pocket, which made the guards, agents, and military personnel guarding security tense up. However, Colonel Rhodes, who was Tony's friend and remained neutral, urged them not to do anything, and he would take responsibility.

In Allen's hand were some virtual reality glasses, or so they seemed, but the reality was more complicated.

"Tah dah! These are Memory-kun 2000!"

People wanted to vomit when they heard the ridiculously adorable name.

===

- HAHAHAHAHA

- What a bastard, he's playing with them, lmao.

- I can't deal with this troll!! Keke

Allen noticed that many were about to explode, so he hurried with his explanation.

"Ignore the name, these are not virtual reality glasses or anything like that, they are designed to extract a person's deepest memories."

"What?!"

"Don't worry, it's not invasive, not brainwashing. It works as a subconscious memory detector, and only activates when receiving stimuli from consciousness."

===

Rick – If you put that thing on and Allen tells you to think of your mother, you'll remember her whether you want to or not, and since these are subconscious memories, you might not even remember many things yourself.

Gilgamesh – I see... a person can train, control, and even manipulate their conscious thoughts, but not the subconscious, which is unknown even to oneself.

===

Everyone looked at the device in Allen's hand with fear. On one hand, it was terrifying, on the other hand, there was no assurance that it wasn't dangerous.

This concern was precisely pointed out by Colonel Sanders.

"Your honor, this is too dangerous. We're talking about the top brass of one of the nation's pillars. What if he uses this opportunity to control our minds..." said the Colonel indignantly, but then he continued, "So if Mr. Walker is willing to hand over the device-"

"Memory-kun," Allen corrected.

"If Mr. Walker is willing to give us the device, we will analyze it and determine if it is safe."

===

Nikky – These bastards won't give up!

Harley – It's true! If it was, haha!

Diana – Harleen Quinzel?

Harley – Don't call me Harleen Quinn. Harleen is... like my evil twin...

===

Allen shrugged. "I'll do it if you agree to use it. If you wish, I can test it, or someone can do it right here and dispel your doubts."

"Objection!"

"Objection to your objection!"

===

– Hahaha, this makes no sense!

– Damn, if I ever go to trial, I want Allen to be my lawyer LMFAO.

– Me too, of course, Allen the bastard will put me in jail for fifty years, but the laughs won't be lacking XD

===

At this point, everyone understood, that there was no way to deal with Allen; he was simply playing and teasing everyone.

Allen had a half-smile, while everyone seemed to want to tear their hair out. At this point, one of the judges spoke up.

"I'll do it."

The head judge glanced at his colleague and whispered something, but she shook her head and looked at Allen with a calm gaze.

"I've been in this job for fifty years, and I want to trust in my ability to judge people."

The woman with gray hair and square glasses looked at Allen with her impassive eyes. Allen stopped smiling and put on a serious look.

"Your honor, don't worry. I give you my word, Memory-kun is just a memory reader..."

...

Allen approached and handed Memory-kun to the judge. She analyzed it for a moment and put it on without changing her expression. Allen admired the woman's courage.

Memory-kun began to glow, and then a small hole opened in the center of the visor, and a holographic screen was projected above the judge.

"Just relax and think of a wonderful memory..."

Allen's voice was reassuring like flowing water and quickly entered the woman's soul.

There was a memory of her being shown. It was not in the first person, but rather the image of the judge as a middle-aged woman with gray hair but still retaining some of her youth. She walked down the hallway of a hospital to a room, knocked twice, and entered with a melancholic look. Inside, a man was lying in bed, he seemed emaciated and a little pale.

The judge trembled at seeing what was happening. She didn't need to speak; the judge's expression, biting her lips and trembling, testified that it was a real memory.

She left and sat next to the man, then proceeded to talk about her day, mentioning her daughters, and that a police officer had fined her for parking incorrectly. In the end, the man didn't react, and she looked at the scene from the side with melancholy. Twenty years ago, her husband had suffered a stroke; he barely survived a week and then died.

She could only accompany him every day, knowing that he would no longer respond.

The judge didn't hate Allen, even though when he mentioned remembering a wonderful memory, it led to this moment. Perhaps unconsciously, she wanted to see her husband in his last moment once more... After all, she always regretted falling asleep before he left.

As the scene progressed, the woman cried, smiled, and held the dying man's hand, then she fell asleep.

The judge was about to take off the visor, and at that moment, she froze.

"Thank you..."

"E-Evan?" The judge's voice broke.

"Thank you for... a lifetime of happiness... I love you..."

She knew it, there was no way it was an illusion, no way someone could deceive her with a lie. She knew the man lying in bed; she had known him for thirty years, knew his way of speaking, of looking, of smiling, the small gestures of his face. She knew that her husband was there.

[The subconscious cannot be deceived; it registers information that includes the person's unconscious, even if the woman was asleep, she heard her husband's last words.]

The judge cried and held her husband's hand, even though it was just a memory and she shouldn't be able to touch it, she could feel the man's hand, which seemed stunned for a moment before smiling.

Unnoticed by anyone, a fragment of destiny disappeared from Allen's inventory.

[Host?]

'What?'

[It's nothing...]

She never thought that her husband in the illusion was false, but feeling his hand, she could feel in the depths of her soul that he was here. She regretted for decades not seeing him off, for never hearing his voice again.

"Thank you for thirty wonderful years, I love you, I always did, and I always will... someday I'll go with you..." she leaned in and kissed the man's cheek, who closed his eyes.

The man was clinically dead at that point, but miraculously managed to come back and say goodbye to his wife.

Atena – What happened to not playing with time anymore?... *sigh*

Gilgamesh – ...

Gwen HC – Allen...

Allen remained silent, as did everyone else. Tears flooded the chat, especially from many women. Allen knew he would have to console his girls later. It's not like he planned this; he didn't even know that the judge truly had that past.

After a few minutes, the woman took off the visor and handed it back to Allen. She looked grateful, then stood up and addressed the audience.

"Since I have become emotionally involved, I am no longer fit to be on the stand. However, I put my reputation and word that there is no lie in Allen Walker's words."

The judge left, and the silence grew larger.

Allen cleared his throat and looked at Colonel Sanders with Memory-kun in his hands.

...

Colonel Sanders had been called in at the last minute and was chosen to refute all of Tony Stark's defenses.

They were determined to get Tony's armories or at least discredit him for future attacks. However, Allen's existence had thwarted their plans.

Even Justin Hammer had remained silent; he didn't have Tony, but Allen was different. No one was foolish enough to pick a fight with this monster, at least not for now.

Colonel Sanders chuckled, grabbed the visor, and put it on.

"I've served in the military for twenty-five years, I have nothing to hide. I love my country and would die to protect it."

"We'll see," said Allen, letting Memory-Kun take action. "Clear your mind and think of your greatest shame..." Allen said vaguely, with a playful smile on his face.

The Colonel felt the question was odd, but it was too late, and a holographic screen appeared above.

On the screen, a middle-aged man was looking at himself in the mirror, but there was something strange.

He was in a motel room. There was a red dress on the bed. The Colonel turned pale and started sweating. He tried to stop this, but his body wouldn't respond. It was as if he were asleep.

"Mr. Walker, don't allow the Colonel's intimacy to be seen."

"Don't worry; it's not like that..." Allen replied and pointed to the Colonel, who awkwardly put on the red dress.

The dress accentuated his figure; he put on heels and a blonde wig and then started applying makeup. Allen ignored the Colonel's pleas and the shock of the others.

But as if things couldn't get any worse, the Colonel and his alter ego shamelessly flaunted themselves.

"You're an easy b*tch, Sanders," said the Colonel, and his real version proceeded to act like a cheap whore.

In reality, the Colonel had passed out. Everything fell silent, Allen turned to the generals.

"Well, who's next?" the white-haired boy smiled kindly, but it sent shivers down everyone's spines.
