Chapter 4: Meeting a God

"Land of the Gods?" I said curiously. I tried looking around me but it was all pitch black. I heard a sound, as if feet were stepping about the room.

A man said, "Yes. You are now in the Land of the Gods. Us Gods watch over all of you in existence and even other worlds." I was dumbfounded. "Other worlds?" I said curiously.

The man's voice chuckled a bit, presumably at my curiosity and astonishment towards this newfound information.

The man said, "Don't worry. Your questions will be answered in due time. Just be patient." I was still wary of the man but I decided to trust him. For now.

I asked the man, "So what exactly do you do? You said 'Land of the Gods'. Gods being plural."

"Me? Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you this. I am Kai. The God that decides upon which souls should be eligible for reincarnation, with or without their memories."

'What? Reincarnation...did I just get sent to a cliche isekai story?' I said in my mind. I sighed and said, "So am I eligible for reincarnation? I already know about some things due to the amount of isekai content I've seen."

Kai then said, "Yes. You indeed are eligible for reincarnation. But your soul is damaged. Not in a physical sense, but in an emotional and mental sense."

Kai continued, "I have a proposal for you to decide what to do upon hearing it. Would you like to hear my words?"

I thought about it for a second. I replied, "Sure. Shoot whatever you got at me."

Kai then said, "You can either reincarnate with your mental pain from losing your family or you can let me block out some of those memories for a little while."

Those words struck a chord with me since I wanted the pain to be gone. I had my answer. "I'll allow you to do the blockage of it." I said.

Kai then replied, "Thank you. I do not want my new friend to be in any pain." I smiled when I heard that.

Kai continued, "But first, why don't I turn on the lights?"

Slowly the room began to fill with a white light. It became brighter, and brighter, until the room finally had lit up fully.

There was a throne in the center of the room and a man in front of me. The man was Kai who wore a red robe with a pair of white pants and white shirt. Kai said, "Hello, Jacob." I felt physically different.

I looked down and noticed my body was gone. The man noticed and said, "Your body is gone, yes. It's because you're a spirit now."

I was dumbfounded. "A spirit, huh? That's expected at least." Kai reached out to me. I was only a few inches away from his hand and he touched me.

I felt a weird but warm sensation course through my mental self and the pain had dispersed for now. "Thank you." I said. Kai's face went from friendly, to serious in seconds.

Kai said, "Now we shall begin. Of course our custom is to give you the [System] that will help you on your way. I also will send a present through the same system when you wake from reincarnation."

I then asked, "Is the [System] like the one I should know from the content I've seen and read?" Kai nodded his head and smiled.

Kai then said, "Spirit of Jacob. You were a noble man in your last life, but as you are now, you are nothing. You will start from near zero and work your way up again."

He then took another breath and continued. "You shall live a new life as someone entirely different. May you prosper upon this gifted life from yours truly. Good luck, my comrade."

I replied with, "Yes! Oh, and, thank you!" My vision quickly faded and I was now inside some sort of dark space for who knows how long until I can leave.

-[Some time later]-

It felt like days had gone by since I met Kai. When I first had no body or somewhere along those lines since I couldn't feel anything before today. I also feel stronger than at first. But where am I?

I've been in some dark space like the inside of an egg or so. I want to try getting out before I end up here for any longer.

I tried reaching my hand out and I felt some sort of a wall? I tried pushing it harder and it broke. I did this enough times to allow me to fit through the hole I had made. When I turned around to look at what I was in, it looked like a pure white ball.

"Ooh." I said. 'Wait...why is my voice so high and squeaky? And why do I feel so short?' I thought. I looked around the area I was now in and it was a forest.

There was a puddle next to the thing I came out of and I looked at my reflection in the water. "HUH?! WHAT THE HELL???" I yelled. For what I saw wasn't me. But it seems I had ears like a fox and black hair.

I checked my body and found I had nothing on me. I also felt something around my lower back. I looked and saw a tail.

A giant, fluffy black tail. I touched it out of curiosity and when I did, I made a small sound like a moan.

"Okay. So don't touch the tail..." I said embarrassingly. I checked out my body more and more and I noticed something. 'Wait...my soldier...he's gone! Does that mean what I think it does?' I said in my mind.

I reached downwards and felt the place where my manhood was, and to my surprise, it was gone.

"So...I'm now a girl..." I fell backwards on my bottom and sat there. I was slightly saddened by the fact I can't mastur- I mean be a man anymore.

I then noticed an insignia on the inside of my left forearm. Whatever it may stand for, it ain't important to me.

"Oh yeah! Didn't that god or whatever say something about a system?" I said. After that, I heard a voice that sounded like a female, say, [Hello, User. I am your personal system. You have a present from {Kai the God of Soul Reincarnation}. Do you wish to open it?]

I selected yes and a box appeared on my lap. The voice sounded like a girl who was not even 16 years of age at least.

I opened it to see three sets of things. 1) a bag with food and water and other survival supplies. 2) a pair of boots and a robe to wear to help with my current clothing situation. 3) a short sword and a wand that would help with combat. I immediately put on the robe and boots only to find a letter underneath them. It read;

{Sorry about your current clothing situation and all but it's normal when I reincarnate people! And the reason of which your gender changed is a mystery. You were supposed to be male. I guess have fun with your new body? Also, take these supplies and weapons to get you going. There should also be 15 gold coins inside of the bag.

And about the change of appearance. The child you are now, is one that I've had my eyes on for a long time. I can't tell you about her, though. But, trust me, please.

Goodbye for now. And don't die.

I was a little pissed off about my gender changing but now I can at least have the life of a woman and a man? Sounds intriguing.

And why can't he tell me about the child that I've turned into? Or, more likely, become. This child probably died and I took over their body with reincarnation.

I also noticed that this body is the exact envisionment of what my 15 year old self wanted to reincarnate as. I was weird as a kid. That's probably why he turned me into this one.

But back to my new life.

I checked the bag and there was a pouch that had the said gold coins inside. Welp, let's ask the system if I can store things like in a video game.

"Hey system? Can I store things in some sort of inventory?" I said. [User can store items inside of the Storage Skill.] I tried using the skill and it made a holographic screen appear in front of me.

I brought the bag up to the inventory screen and it transferred the bag with the supplies inside.

I left the short sword and wand on me in case of enemies showing up. "Oh, system, what is my name? I assumed that I would get a new name upon reincarnation. And also, how old am I?" I said.

[Checking status... User's name is Pearl and you just turned 5 years old approximately 5 months ago.]

"Pearl...I like it!" I said ignoring my now young age. Well then, I am going to try and find a town nearby or something. Oh! Maybe I should eat the ball I came out of?

Like in all of those novels where the person get's reincarnated and they appear in some sort of container and they get a slight increase in their stats when they eat the container!

[Pearl will be poisoned if she tries that.] "Okay. Maybe not." I said back. 'Let's get going!' I said happily in my mind.
