Chapter 1: My Nightly Routine

It's already evening and I still haven't cooked my dinner yet. Living alone in this little boarding house makes me a NEET.

Things are quite chaotic these past few days because of the appearance of portals all around the world. We even have 1 portal near here in where I stay.

These portals like things float above the ground and no one could enter it and so far no one exited from it. Soldiers tried different methods to destroy such things but none has succeeded.

These makes everyone worried. Especially my highly religious mother who ask me to return home immediately upon seeing the news about the appearance of the portals or whatever it is 9 or 10 days ago I think, I couldn't remember exactly.

But I returned here after 1 week of the appearance of the portals since I need to retrieve my important documents. So far I have been stuck here for 3 days because all mode of transportation are full and the plane ticket that I manage to buy for myself will fly tomorrow night.

I still have a day to enjoy before being enslave by my mother when I return so I'm going to enjoy this to the fullest.

I stand up in my bed and immediately wear my hoodie to go outside to buy something to eat. I'm too lazy to cook anything and what I have here are all canned food and I'm sick of it. Student life really sucks, you have no choice but to eat those inorder to survive.

I walk outside, going to where the portal was located. There are vendors selling foods and coffee there for the soldiers who are stationed to the portal.

These vendors are really brave. They decided to sell things near the portal when everyone is so adamant about staying in the same location as it.

It's just a minute walk since it's very close to where I live, from where I stand I could already see the soldiers who are drinking coffee and patrolling the area along with some civilians who are too comfortable being near the portal and doing whatever they want.

Soldiers here are not that strict anymore compared to the first week of the portal appearance in which they do not allow anyone near here and even order an evacuation just to be safe.

Right now the soldiers are just ordering everyone around to remain vigilant and immediately retreat if some visible changes appear on the portal.

I arrive at the area and was stopped by a soldier stationed here.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

I remove my hood and look at him in the eyes with my smiley face.

"Doing my nightly routine like the usual." I replied as I wink at him.

He is around 20's and the army uniform really suits him so I like teasing him every night.

His face remains stern even after what I did.

"Go, just don't stay here for long."

He said in a stern tone as he stood straight to his spot.

"Ehhyy, you fall for me after just 3 days? I did not expect you to be concerned to me, I really thought that you are the type who would throw me in the portal if it is possible to enter it."

He just look down on me without uttering a word which gives chills to my neck.

This guy might shoot me if I annoy him any longer.

I smiled at him once again while giving him a peace sign.

As I walk past to him, I look at the surroundings, there are soldiers laughing not too far from here and there are also civilians going to where the vendors at.

I proceeded in the vendor stall that sells food and I brought chicken adobo, bicol express, and dinuguan, as well as 6 cups of rice. This will all include my breakfast tomorrow and if there are still remains then lunch will be included.

As I walk out after paying, my eyes gaze at the color blue portal. There are soldiers poking it so I walk at them.

"Can I touch it? How does it feels?" I ask curiously at them and they look at each other.

"I guess it's fine, just poke it like we did." The middle age man of uniform agreed so I immediately place my palm in it.

They were shock a little but I immediately talk so they could stop being worried.

"I feel like something is flowing in the portal, it's a little warm in the hand. Why don't you try doing it as well? Ahhh, what a nice feeling. If I could place my back here I would totally fall asleep."

They both look at each other, and then look at my hand and the portal and then their gaze landed on my reaction before they nodded at each other.

They both place their hands in the portal and their reaction change immediately as they feel what I'm feeling as well.

"Nice right?" I said and both nodded immediately.

"What's nice?" Someone talk behind my back which shock me and made me jump.

As I look behind me, I saw the guy who was assigned at the entrance behind me.

"It's looks like you already brought what you needed. I'll escort you outside now."

"That's not fair, I've only been here for a minute. Look at those people who are taking pictures, they've been here far longer than I am." I protest but his face remains stern.

"Those people didn't hinder our job unlike you, so I'll escort you now." He said without looking at me.

"You are kinda mean." I said as I followed behind him.

He didn't reply nor talk while we walk. I notice a vendor selling coffee so I stopped.

"Wait I'll buy coffee first before leaving, the night is so cold so I needed one." I said and he sighed before replying.

"Hurry up"

I immediately ran to where the vendor at and order a take out coffee and a biscuit along with it.

I return immediately to where the loner soldier waiting for me and we resume walking.

"The moon is quite big tonight isn't it?" I said out of nowhere and I received no reply.

"This type of moon really captivates my heart."

"Yeah sure" He replied as he stopped walking.

It seems like he's already in his spot and would remain here until his duty ends.

"Could you please hold this cup and biscuits? I have to arrange something." I said to him as I handed him the cup of coffee and biscuits.

He looks at me in the eye waiting for me to do something, seconds later his gaze becomes that of a confused person. But I just smiled at him, doing nothing like I said I would.

"You deserve it sir. Thank you for your service tonight." I said while smiling and saluted at him.

His cheeks turns red as he look behind him for no particular reason.

I then take my leave and left him there.

After I arrive home, I immediately eaten what I brought and It makes me really full and satisfied. I feel like my tummy will burst any moment.

I open my social media account and what I saw gives chills to my bones.

There are videos there showing monsters exiting the portal. Such as goblins and even bipedal wolf.

It seems like the video is taken from the europe since people in the video are white and speak english.

I scrolled down even more and I saw more videos with people panicking,while the videographer describes the situation. Gun fires could be heard as well as along with fighter jest and helicopter.

I scrolled more as my heart beats fast, in one of the video, I saw a large dog, extremely large dog that rivals the hight of a building. It's fur is color white with blue hue. Only one thing comes to my mind upon seeing it.

"Fenrir"

The videographer of this one seems to be on a rooftop. It could be seen that the jets are shooting the Fenrir with it's missiles. However it didn't even move an inch.

Suddenly, it move so fast and jump so high, the helicopters and jets get caught of something unseenable in the video and all of them exploded.

Then it breaths fire, burning everything around it. After that a person in the video suddenly levitate. The camera has been zoom to that individual and I could confirm that it has to be a human base on its shape.

Suddenly huge debris floats beside him and he wave his hands and all those rocks shoots towards the Fenrir. But the Fenrir seems to be fine.

It seems like people with super natural powers really do exist.

Suddenly my phone rang and I received a call from my mother.

"Hey is the portal there ok? I saw the news, they said that the first batch of portal that appears in the world 10 days ago started opening and releasing those monsters. The media is calling it a dungeon now. It all started in the european countries, any moment the first batch of portals here in the Philippines will open as well. Stay away from that dungeon, run as far as possible. Your father will come and pick you up."

Mom said as she was panicking. Which also makes me emotional.

"Mom, I'm scared 😭" I replied to her.

"It will be fine honey don't worry, Your father will be on the way." She assures me but..

"Don't let him pick me up, the streets are currently dangerous, I will come there instead. Just pray for me that I will arrive there safely. There are soldiers stationed here and I do not hear any gunshots so far. I will tag along with them, they will surely bring me somewhere safe. I'll contact you then for my location and status.Mom, I love you both Dad, please tell him that." I said in a very emotional tone.

"I love you too, please be safe and comeback here."

Mom replied as she is crying loudly.

The chances of me surviving is slim and the chances of them surviving while finding me is even worst. We don't want to think that I won't survive however, it's better to express what you feel right now so if I won't survive at least I have no regret.

"I will end the call now and prepare my thing. I love you Mom and please stop Dad from coming here." I said that and ended the call.

I know that they will be safe to where they are since the area around our home has no dungeon.
