54 Omari Vs Ekon

Omari looked at Jurg with a brief look of surprise. Then his look of surpries changed into an empty looking expression.

He didn't understand why he was letting himself get surprised at Jurg being immature. It had been two weeks since the incident at the hospital and Jurg hadn't forgotten about it.

Ayanfe tossed the ball to Jack who looked at Omari with a sympathetic expression on his face. Unlike Omari who only guessed that Ekon was a good defender because of his height, Jack and the others have actually trained with him so they knew what kind of a freak he was.

"Alright Jack, pass him the ball. Stop looking like an idiot!" Jurg said with a smirk.

Michael on the other hand was watching the matchup that was about to happen with a rather interested expression. The said 'star player' of the team versus the monstrous new signing. It was going to be an interesting one to see.

Jack played a through ball to Omari. Omari and Ekon dashed towards the ball at the same time.

If it was any average sixteen year old footballer, then they would have been intimidated by Ekon's size and shied away from the ball, but Omari wasn't an average sixteen year old footballer, he unlike many of his agemates had faced every footballer's biggest fear... not playing!

As such he couldn't let himself get hindered by fear, he fearlessly charged at the ball. He got there a second ahead of Ekon and used his back to block Ekon from advancing to the ball.

He didn't think that his measly body frame would be enough to stop Ekon from getting the ball though. What he assumed was going to happen was that Ekon wouldn't be able to slow down fast enough and mistakenly push him to the ground. If that happened, he would just call foul and fake some injury.

Unfortunately, Ekon didn't fall for a trap. Instead of hitting Omari in an attempt to body him away from the ball, he moved towards where the penalty box was and charged at Omari from that direction.

Being that they were at the left side of the penalty box, Omari had to dribble wide to stop Ekon from collecting the ball, making him move further away from the intended goal.

"Damnit!" Omari muttered under his breath.

As he dribbled wide, Ekon followed him in a bid to force him to concede a throwing or something. It was only through a brilliant piece of footwork that he could escape.

Quickfeet.

Omari's feet flashed over the ball, making a series of complex movement patterns, stunning Ekon for some seconds. He then cut inside, driving the ball past the confused defender.

Omari had already moved two steps by the time Ekon realized what was happening. He began to chase down Omari who was bracing himself to make a shot.

Shit!

Right as Omari was about to shoot, he could feel Ekon gaining on him. At that rate, if he shot the ball then Ekon was most likely going to block the shot.

With these thoughts in mind, he did the most reasonable thing any forward would do when faced with such a situation, he moved as if he was going to shoot the ball and used his right leg to dribble onto his left leg.

Ekon was so convinced that Omari was going to shoot the ball that he made a slide tackle. One could only imagine the look of despair on his face when he saw the ball roll lazily to Omari's left foot.

Ayanfe had also made a dive to his left, where he assumed Omari's shot was going to hit.

Pinpoint finishing.

Without any form of hesitation whatsoever, Omari used his left leg to blast the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal post.

"Gooooallll!"

As soon as the ball hit the back of the net, all the youth players in training screamed. That was the first time that they had ever seen anyone get past Ekon.

Omari looked at Jurg with a cocky smile and went to sit down.

At this point, I have to tell you thank you. You made me look all the more awesome in front of the manager.

Michael looked very impressed when he saw Omari get past Ekon. "I thought you said no normal human being can get past that monster?" Michael muttered to Jurg in a teasing tone.

In response to Michael's statement, Jurg laughed. "I never said that the kid was a normal human being"

Michael chuckled a bit.

They did a few more training drills and it was in the evening when they finally rounded off training. Michael assembled them into a huddle and adressed them.

"I'm sure you all know why I've been watching you lads train for the past two weeks and I'm also sure that you understand what is at stake here" Michael said. "I also want you to know that if you don't get picked, it's not the end of the world. There will always be time for you to get the game time and recognition you desire. I also want to remind you that it isn't a must for you to start your career here. If you feel that things won't work out for you here and you're that confident in your talent, then you can leave. We won't stop you"

Everyone thought about what Michael was saying with serious expressions on their faces. At that moment, few of them decided that they were going to leave as soon as their contracts ran out. They knew that they probably weren't talented enough to make it at Middlesbrough.

Michael said some more things and dismissed the training. Omari went into the locker room and washed himself. He stayed back for a bit and told Ayanfe to go without him. He was expecting his father to come and get him.

After waiting for quite some time, he decided to go home by himself. When he left the training facilities, he met someone waiting for him. It wasn't his father or mother or anyone he was expecting. It was someone completely different.

"Hey" Amber said.
