48 [Bonus chapter]

Frederick smirk. He finally realized that the maid wanted but his wife was still not convinced.

"I know you. You were serving lady Anastasia at the party. Do you think we will trust your words?" She tried to hold the arms of her husband and pulled him back into the room when the maid gritted her teeth.

"Yes, I was serving her the whole time. But she did not look at me. She did not offer me a job in the duchy as I had expected. Not to forget about that, she did not offer me any reward either. As if my services are for free!

I want her to bear the consequences and I want some gold coins for myself. If you can't give five, four is fine too." she repeated coldly as she extended her hands and waited for the man to place some gold coins in her hands.

"I will give you ten coins instead." he laughed when the maid's eyes widened.

"Fredrick! I don't think it is a good idea. Did you not see the result of rash decisions of baron Neverie." she warned her husband but he just smirked.

Arrogance and revenge was filling his mind.

"That is because he was a fool to act in public. But no one can blame it on me since I have long returned to my room. I was not there to know what happened to her." his wife still shook her head and did not let his hands go when the maid took a deep breath.

"Yes, but you do not have much time. If she leaves her room, you will not get a second chance." Listening to the words of the maid, the man was sure that he would not get another chance.

He forced the hands of his wife away and followed the maid towards the stairs.

They walked discreetly making sure no one would find them there.

"Is she there?" the maid pointed at the second floor. Ana was talking to a server and asking her for tea in her room.

Viscount hid in the corner as he waited for the maid to leave first.

"I will keep an eye on the stairs and try to stop everyone from approaching. But you have to make sure that she does not see your face when you push her? Alright!" Normally, the viscount would have thrown a fit that a mere maid was trying to lecture him, but this time, he nodded and accepted her words easily.

His eyes were fiery with the desire to revenge. The maid stopped there on guard.

"You wench! Have you seriously thought that you would cut our roots that easily?" He gritted his teeth as he remembered what happened at the party.

He stood behind her and tried to push her but at the last moment she turned to look at him.

He froze at his place confused when she smirked.

"For a second I thought that you would not come." The smirk on her face left an ominous feeling in his heart.

He took a step back but it was already too late.

He felt force on his back and in the next moment, he found himself falling on the ground.

"Aah! Save.. help me." he shouted out loud but there was no one.

The maid who had pushed him was full of sweat as she looked at the falling body with dreadful eyes.

"Are you sure that no one will find out?" In the end, she was the one who had pushed the viscount. His wife had even seen her face.

"You have to make sure of that. Because in the end, you are the one who pushed him." The chilly voice was devoid of any warmth.

But before the maid could shatter, Ana gave a pat on her shoulders.

"You have earned a lot today. Ten gold coins and ruby earrings. It would be enough to start a new life in another country if you leave at this moment." as if finally enlightened, the maid held the small fortune in her hands tightly and ran away from there.

Ana looked at the running figure coldly. There was only malice in her eyes.

Frederick had already fallen on the ground and was covered with blood.

She walked back to the room that was assigned to her.

A while ago, she had not only used it for tea but had informed the maid that she had lost her earrings at the party. She wanted the maid to go and inform the garrison and her father about the loss so that they could find it.

She opened the door of her room and sat on the bed with a lost look on her face.

She never wanted to fill her hands with blood. But she could not let them live again. Those who have killed her. The maid.. She had met her in her past life in the church too.

She had been offered a job in the palace. She had trusted that young girl but in the end she was the one who had placed Rowan's medicines in her room and proved her guilty for the suffering of the child.

Come to think of it, Rowan was very sick after their reception party and needed a lot of medicines that could only be produced in the royal palace.

She was accused of stealing them so that the child would suffer for a long time. Since then, she was never able to get rid of the title of evil mother.

She had to make sure that the past did not repeat itself. She had looked for a good physician who could help in taking care of Rowan.

Just as she was thinking about it, she heard the sound of shouting and crying. The whole church was in chaos suddenly.

She took her sweet time in standing up and walking towards the door. She stood there confused when the maid returned with the tea she had asked for,

"What is happening there?"

"A man! A man fell from the stairs and died."
