1 Butterflies

"Mommy, tell me the story again," six year old me asked. I was jumping up and down on my bed.

"Honey, you have to sleep," she tells me. My mom looked exhausted and ready to go to bed.

"Please, please, please, please," I say over and over. I wasn't giving up no matter what.

"Ok, but you have to go to sleep after I'm done," she says smiling.

Mommy pats the bed, signaling for me to lay down and she sits next to me.

"There was a goddess named Fiona. She was the moon goddess. She used to live among the humans, but she had to hide her true self. She looked like them, acted like them, and even smelled like them. Fiona lived a lonely life because she couldn't make any friends with the fear of someone figuring out she was special. One day she was so mad that she couldn't share her true self with anyone, so she created people that she could share it with.

"She created Werewolves. They were human formed, but they could turn into wolves. They were powerful and magical. She created beings that could understand her because they also had to hide themselves from the humans. Fiona was happy. She finally felt like she had a family. She was immortal, but the Werewolves could die. Fiona was so happy that the wolves could mate, so their families could keep growing and she'd always have friends. She didn't have control over who they would mate with, but i've heard that the universe chooses. No one knows exactly how, but once the universe chooses, nothing can change it.

"But she didn't know that trouble was coming. She didn't know that her enemy was watching her every move. Kias. Kias was the prince of the underworld. He hated that Fiona was happy. They were always at each other's throats because their families never got along. He wanted to anger her. So, he created vampires for one purpose only. To destroy Fiona's new family. He made these vampires ruthless and cold hearted. The vampires and werewolves were always at war and they were killing each other, including the humans. The universe was unstable with all these new creatures and all the wars.

"The gods were angry with what they did, so they came up with a solution. They made witches." At this part, I start clapping my hands and jumping on my bed. This was always my favorite part.

Mommy started swirling her hands. Seconds later, my room was filled with pretty butterflies.

"You wanna try," she asks and I nod my head fast. She takes my hand and makes me repeat what she did. A little butterfly appears in my hand and it flutters away.

"Your getting better at that. Ok, on with the story," she says.

"The witches tamed the vampires and the werewolves. They were the mediators. The werewolves and vampires still have problems to this day, but it's very quite. Very few humans know about supernatural beings and we keep it like that for safety purposes. We are Earth's protectors."

She finishes up right when there was a knock at the door. My dad opens up the door and walks in. He comes over and picks me up and swings me around.

"Dadddyyyy," I scream, giggling.

"Hey, princess," he says, putting me down on the bed and kissing my forehead.

"Ok, now it's time for you to go to sleep," my mom says.

"But, I don't want to," I tell her pouting, hoping my puppy dog eyes will work. My dad bends down by my ear to whisper something to me.

"I'll let you eat ice cream with your pancakes tomorrow if you go to sleep now." My eyes lit up and I hugged my dad.

"I heard that," my mom says, glaring at my dad. He just acts like he didn't hear anything and tucks me in bed.

Before they can turn off my lights, there was growling from outside.

"We'll be back sweetie. Stay in your room," my mom said. She kisses my forehead and leave.

My dad turns off my room lights and leaves. I heard them outside and I wanted to see what they were doing. I run over to my window.

There were two vampires and two werewolves outside. Mommy and daddy were holding them back, two people each with their powers.

It was so cool. They were heroes. It was exciting to see mommy and daddy use their powers and work.

I saw something moving in the shadows. There was a vampire and werewolf fighting in the woods. They were getting closer to mom and dad, but they couldn't see them.

"MOMMY, DADDY," I tried screaming, but they couldn't hear me. I kept calling them, but they didn't turn around. I got up and ran towards the front door. When I got outside they were still oblivious.

"MOMMY," I yelled. She finally turned around, but then the wolf pounced and the vampire ducked down, making mommy get pounced on by the wolf.

"NOOO," I screamed. They all stopped and looked over at me. There were tears coming down my face and my dad was looking at my moms body laying on the grass.

All the werewolves and vampires ran off and we were left with moms bloody body. Dad went to her body and crouched down next to her. Tears were coming out of his eyes too.

"Come here, princess," he called me over. I sit next to him by mommy. Her eyes were open and there was a big claw mark across her neck.

"Your going to have to listen to me, princess. We're going to have to say goodbye to mommy," he tells me. I could tell he was trying to hold in his tears for me.

"No, daddy," I tell him, shaking my head. More tears were coming out in waterfalls.

"We have to. I'm sorry." He couldn't hold it anymore and started crying. He pulled me into his chest and held me while I cried.

"When witches die, we do this ritual. Grab mommy's hand and repeat after me," my dad tells me and I nod.

"requiem," we both say together. Mommy's body starts to glow and turn into flowers. There were millions of flowers floating in the air. A breeze comes and blows her away. The flowers float into the air and up away into the sky.

"Bye mommy." My dad picks me up.

"It's going to be ok," he says and carries me inside the house.
