“Just how you drive me wild in bed,” she said, “but I guess you already know that.”

Picking her up and carrying her to the bedroom, I whispered in her ear, “Absolument.”12

The next morning, we both got up early as we would have to be leaving at the same time. It was my first experience sharing the bathroom with her, and I tried not to bump into her as she carefully applied her make-up. She looked beautiful to me even without it, so I had a hard time understanding her need to spend so much time with it. But when she applied her perfume, I struggled to keep my mind on track, as it reminded me of our first night together.

“Do you have the address for your appointment?” she asked. “It is much too far for you to walk, even if you were more familiar with Paris, so I’m going to put you in a cab. I’ll give you cab fare for both directions as I don’t think you will want to try to walk all the way back.”

“Arielle, I don’t want you to give me money. I can pay for the cab.”
