Chapter 1 Making The End Meet

Buzzz buzzz then followed by some chimes sounds. The phone vibrating on a girl tummy while she lay,

with a messy bun hairdo. The sounds got louder and the girl move her body facing left side. The rustling

sounds of the blanket can faintly be heard. Her phone slide down and fell from the bed. Thump!

"Ahhh!! The girl abruptly woke up and grab her phone. Checking it and wiping it as if her life depends

on it. The phone still working just fine. She sigh in relief and stand up properly. She look at the clock on

her phone screen, turn off the alarm and tidy up her bed while yawning. Kylie's daily routine starts as

usual. Take shower, wear the KFG worker uniform, make her own breakfast, and eat alone at this small

round table..

Looking at the empty seats, she can't help but be reminded of her family in the Spring Village. Her

father died 3 years ago from a heart attack while he's working at the village charcoal factory. He was

only 47 years old. Yet.. he's gone. Since then, she became the backbone of her family. Her little sister

Kathleen is still studying in Sky high school. Just a mile away from their home. While their mother.. her

health is not that good. 1 years ago, she fell from their antique wooden stairs as it snap and break. Her

knee got injured and still haven't recover. Due to the old age, the bone and body grow weaker. So does

the recovery rate.

Since then, she's unable to sell her homemade sweets at the Dailybuy Market; located around 1 and

half mile away from their home. She can't walk that far. Honestly her mother can only walk slowly while

sometimes holding onto the wall as she walk around the house. The facilities at this small village aren't

that great either. Her little sister need to walk for half a mile just to get to the nearest bus stop. Thus

decided to just ride a bicycle all the way to school. Of course, Kylie was the one that saved up and buy

Kathleen her bicycle. Her lips curled up, tiny smile appears on her face. She plan to do more for her

family. To improve their life, even just a bit. After cleaning up the dishes, she open the main door and

head out to the street.

On the road, she help an elderly woman to cross the road, and also smile at some street vendor

sellers that she know as she walk to her workplace; KFG Fast-food chain. As she's preparing her work

station.. "Morning Kylie! Do you miss me? Oh, you look tired today..", a familiar voice was heard beside

her. Chloe greeted her with a beaming smile as usual. But now she's staring at Kylie's eyes. Dark circles

can visibly be seen even though it been covered by some face powder. Feeling Chloe fixed gaze on her

eyes, Kylie softly touch the area under her eyes. "Uhh...I couldn't sleep well last night. I had strange

dream again but I can't remember what the dream is about.. I keep waking up due to that.. Feels

terrible." She then massage her temple. Chloe eyes saddened a bit but said," Why don't you sleep at my

place today? I will give you free facial! Let's brighten up that dull face of yours hahaha". Kylie look at her

friend with bored expression. She can't understand how someone can be so enthusiastic early in the

morning. While she only wish to sleep for one hour more.. just one hour more that's all.

Ding! The KFG door bell making sound. The first customer entered at 9:08am. "Welcome to KFG!

May I take your order, sir?", Kylie show the sweetest smile she can make. Thus the busy day of serving

the customers begin. There's only 4 staffs working in the front; 2 for taking orders and 2 for cleaning up

the table and floor. While another 3 staffs are working in the kitchen at the back; cooking and frying the

food, preparing the dishes, and garnishing.

Working here, Kylie has notice different kind of customers. Some are well mannered, and some can

be quite troublesome. The type of customer she like is the family. They usually order a lots and most of

the time, cheerful. She love the vibes from them. But not for the cleaner staff at the front. He hate the

spills made by the kids in family gathering inside KFG. Then, there's the student customer. They are

mostly quiet and indulge in their...free Wi-fi. Yep. Free internet for making their assignments or.. simply

downloading stuff. They usually order just a tiny portion but occupying the table for a long time.

Then there's the worker type. Who always prefer to be serve first and highly sensitive with the time.

That's understandable of course. But damn she hate the rude and demanding type of customer. They

can easily turn the calming atmosphere here into hell for the workers and also for the customers.

Everyday Kylie only wish not to encounter this one specific type of customer. 'May God bless me today'.

They all continue doing their job as usual but sometimes get super efficient whenever the manager

come around for a quick check on that branch.

It's 9:47pm now as Kylie done her double shift and the clean up/closing. 'Another tiring day'. Life is

hard currently. She can hardly survive in this big city with her earning. But thinking about her old mother

and little sister back in village, she is determined to help them in whatever she can. Even though this

double shift work slowly affecting her body, there's nothing else she can do. She didn't even finish her

high school after her father death. With her current qualification, she can only do this kind of labour job.

Meanwhile Chloe only work in the morning shift as she has to attend her beauty class at late evening.

Chloe always dream to open her own beauty saloon and will hire her best friend to work with her, to

ease up Kylie's burden.

Kylie is walking at the pathway, illuminated by the few street lamp along the way. In Kylie's hand is a

thick book titled 'This Never Ending Feud'. Today is the last day to return the book that she borrowed

from the local library near her tiny, old apartment. 'The closing time is at 10pm, I must hurry and then I

can go to Chloe house for a free pamper myself session~ Hihihi' she smiles as she rush. Walking but

almost like running, that kind of pace. The library across the road is only few meters ahead. On the

library glass door hangs the OPEN sign. Kylie smiled. She look at both side of the empty road and cross

it.

HONKKKKKK!!!! A loud sound pierce through her ears. As she slowly turn her head towards the

sound. As in slow motion, a car with a blinding light come in contact with her fragile body. Feeling a

sharp pain slowly breaking her bones, all other sense feels numb.

'How come?..'

That is her last thought as everything around her turn pitch black even though she never command

her brain to close her eyes.. Her body fall onto the hard tar road... As the car stopped, the driver look

around in panic, and the passers-by screaming and rushing.. She hear the sounds of multiple footsteps

approaching her. Then everything become void.. Empty.. Her body.. or maybe her soul feel as if it's

floating. Floating to somewhere that she herself don't even know..
