Chapter 6

It was May 15 again, Vin's birthday. Today, he's four years old. The day went on like the usual birthdays, where they would eat something that his mom made while at the same time buying a cake to celebrate the day. It seemed so usual for Vin, but this time, something would change that would greatly help him in the future.

"Now, open your gifts from mom and dad, Vin." Vin's father said.

There were two boxes that could be seen in front of Vin. One, who was in a rectangular shape with a height the same as a long eraser in a vertical position and the other, a square box with the size of the same as an adult's palm.

Vin decided to open the square box first. He tore the cover with force that ripped it apart. From the torn part, you could see a white-colored carton inside. It did not take long before Vin had fully removed the cover and realized what was inside.

It was a smart watch, an expensive one that is. Upon opening, there's a paper inside which Vin did not bother to read and went ahead to wear the watch. He then long pressed the power button from the side to open it. The logo of the company which developed the watch appeared with a fade animation.

Cool...

Numbers started to appear on the watch. It was the exact time as Vin looked at their wall clock. He smiled.

"But that's not all," Vin's father said as he swiped right to the watch.

There were apps that could be seen inside. Some of these are: Heart rate monitor, Calculator, Phone, Phone Connect and Playstore.

The most important of them all were of course, the last. I mean, play store is where you could download apps that could either entertain or help you in your daily life. Vin knew this which made him more happier.

"Now now, enough about the watch. Here, open this," Vin's mother said giving him the rectangular box.

Vin again did the same thing of tearing and removing the cover. When it was fully removed, he almost jump in shock.

If you have guessed it as a smartphone, well you're right. It was the same brand as the smart watch which fits perfectly for experiencing modern technology. Vin, who had a little amount of experience to it, of course made him filled with happiness a lot more.

Vin opened the box by lifting up the outer cover which enveloped the inside. The lower part slowly fell until reaching its end. The smartphone is not yet visible, as some sort of a paper cover that was covering it. Upon removing it, the phone could be seen.

Shining like a mirror reflecting the light, the smartphone looked beautiful. Vin took it out and realized that the back has some sort of unique design of crystal to it. The color red was also dominant among the back cover.

With wide opened eyes, Vin again long-pressed a power button. The same logo appeared with its fade animation. It did not take long when the phone turned on and a set-up was needed for fully use. Vin did this and finally managed to acquire a new phone.

"Thank you, Mom and Dad," was all that Vin said as he hug the two of them.

"School's coming up, make sure to utilize this okay?" Vin's father said which Vin agreed on. "Yes, I will."

The day before school came. It's June 13, Sunday, around 3 to 4 in the afternoon. It was a quiet one as Vin's parents relaxed on the couch watching some television while he was meddling with his smartphone and smartwatch. He managed to connect the two which makes useful things like seeing the camera through the smartphone or sending the location of it through his smartwatch.

Suddenly, there was a shout from the outside. It was a girl's one. To be exact it was Andrea. She was calling out to Vin who already put his phone in his pocket and and hurried outside.

"I'll be playing out a bit Mom, Dad," Vin asked permission.

"Sure Vinny, just be back early okay?" Vin's mom said.

"Yeah Mom, I will."

This became the usual routine for Vin. Going to the park and playing with Andrea. Though tomorrow, the start of class would change it a little bit. Upon realizing this, Vin gulped.

The two started running around. After some time, they started playing with the slide. And for another more minutes, they were hanging around the monkey bars.

Though everything they do was childish, Vin, who was an adult from his previous world enjoyed it. Perhaps, the fact that he did not much enjoy his childhood before caused something for this.

While the two are tired from playing, Vin suddenly had an idea. So then he signed that he's tired to Andrea by pulling the edge of the his wet shirt and then went straight to the seat at the bottom right end of the park.

There, the two were panting from playing. It was then when Vin started to do what he planned earlier. He catched his breath first before asking.

"Is school hard?"

"...School?"

"Yeah?"

"It's fun."

With that response, Vin was assured to what school would offer him. He then stood up and looked at Andrea.

"I, Vandyr, a hero of Awohi country, would like to give you utmost gratitude for everything you had done up until now," Vin said fluently while handing out his hand.

"Cool...," was all that Andrea replied. She then grabbed Vin's hand and stood up too with the help of it.

She's a lot taller than me... Vin thought as he had to look up a little bit higher due to their height differences.

"Then Bandir, let's play tag. I'll be the 'it' okay?" Andrea said.

Instinctively, Vin moved his body away from Andrea. He then ran with the best that he can do. Suddenly, there was a beeping sound that could be heard from Vin's watch. He took a look and checked the content. It says "Heart Rate Abnormality." and in another paragraph, "Are you doing an extensive exercise?" with yes or no button below. Obviously, Vin picked the yes button which set off the warning. But just then, there was a touch in his arms.

"Tagged!" Andrea shouted.

That's unfair!
