A Chilling Welcome

It was the season of penetrating cold.

As most everything else around me, I was standing silently, unmoving.

Opposite of me was a small being. Someone could describe it as 'cute'. Afterall, it makes a rather nice scenery with the mountains far behind it and all.

It's a snow fox.

But, I see it merely as a game. Except, not as a 'game' to hunt, but literally, a game.

That's because there is floating a description above her head, saying <Small Snow Fox>.

It stared at me for several seconds and then I shooed it away with my long stick.

*Sigh*

It all started 2 days ago.

After I fell asleep, I suddenly came into this body, into this wilderness and into this freezing cold. One of that would be bad enough; but with all three combined, I really was running out of plans.

What are you supposed to do in this type of situation?

It's insane. I can't catch anything to eat and can drink only the snow I manage to slowly melt while being in my hut.

Yeah, I got a wooden hut it seems.

If all the novels I've read were right, it also means the original owner of the body died and only because of that I was able to come here.

That's the good side.

The bitter side, which the novels are usually silent about, is that there was always a reason why the original owner died.

And the reason didn't go away just because I got here.

Yeah, at this rate I might soon die too.

You know, right?

Of course, by seeing these descriptions, most people will try to call their 'status' at some point in time.

It's not like I haven't done so.

It's not like I haven't succeeded.

But, there was no cheat ability or anything like that. See for yourself:

<Level 0>

Name: ?

HP: 100

MP: 10

Strength: 4

Vitality: 3

Dexterity: 5

Intelligence: 4

Wisdom: 6

Luck: 3

That's as average as it gets. But it wouldn't be a game if there were no quests, right?

There is one. I am required to survive 10 days.

10 days, as in the meaning of… ten.

Few more days, and I might fall unconscious from the hunger. There is no point in completing the quest at that time!

Walking back into the hut, I pulled the wooden chair for me to seat and pondered. The foxes are too fast - I can never catch any. And first night, I also heard some wolf I think.

That won't do, either.

And so, I resolved to go on a journey the next day in the morning.

The boy must have been able to get here. Someone build this hut. The chair came from somewhere. There might be a settlement within 2-3 days reach.
