28 The Worries Of A Butler

Unaware that he had just been tricked by the young master, the old man swore to maintain his silence before deciding to exit the room.

After Butler Quan once again assured the young master that he would do nothing to disrupt the older Lin couple's vacation, he took his leave as his purpose for appearing here had been fulfilled.

He had learned that his deduction regarding the Young Miss's pregnancy was correct but at the same time, failed to obtain any additional information regarding who the father of her child might be.

However, he trusted that Young Master Christopher would do as he promised and would share this information when the time was right.

Thus, with this confidence, the old man stepped out of the office where his conversation with the Young Master had taken place.

Carefully shutting the door behind him, he stood in the empty corridor and let out a deep sigh as he recalled everything that had taken place in the last many hours.

He had gone through an emotional rollercoaster ever since he had heard about the Young Miss's allergy getting triggered.

Learning that she had suddenly gotten pregnant was also capable of shaking his now old and fragile heart.

However, as the Butler of the Lin family, he could not let himself get overwhelmed by such unexpected situations.

Instead, he needed to remain level-headed even in the face of surprise and uncertainty.

'But I could use some help at such times…' He rubbed his sore shoulders which ached due to his advancing age as he began to walk toward the staircase.

The Quan family had been serving the Lins for the last three generations, making him the third in line.

His Master was the current head of the family, Walter Lin, but soon there would be a shift in power.

Like it had been done with the Lin family business, Young Master Christopher would soon be elevated to the position of Head of the family in the near future.

Once this took place, the entire undertaking of both the business and the family's progress itself would become the responsibility of the young master.

The young master would also need someone whom he could trust when that time comes, someone who would obey his commands and follow his instructions without hesitating or objecting.

That someone would be his butler, his right-hand man.

After all, the old butler could not have two masters so it was crucial for the young master to find someone else to take on this responsibility, whom he could trust and also command freely.

However, thinking of this matter, Abel Quan, the old butler shook his head as that position had been left vacant until now.

If they followed the Quan family's tradition then his son should have been the one to take on the duties of Christopher's butler and become his capable right-hand man.

However, Abel had devoted his entire life to his Master and had never focused on finding a wife for himself.

Though his Master had often urged him to settle down with anyone his heart leaned toward, he was unable to do so and had kept stalling for time.

Now, he was already close to reaching his sixties and had lost his chance of finding a partner whom he could share the rest of his life with.

Nevertheless, Abel did not regret his decision to stay devoted to his Master and hence had never given this matter much thought.

Though he often felt guilty when he thought of how his selfish decision to serve his Master wholeheartedly had indirectly deprived the Young Master of a faithful butler.

Thankfully the Quan family ancestors had come up with contingency plans for such situations and the solution to the problem he was facing right now was a simple one.

All they had to do was select another member from his family who would become his successor and serve the Young Master when the time comes.

However, theoretically, this was an easy solution but it proved to be a troublesome one in reality.

The most suitable candidate for this role in his Quan family was none other than his only nephew, his second brother's son.

While he was the perfect fit for the role, only thinking of this eccentric nephew of his caused the old man to grimace and rub his forehead in distress.

Abel was the eldest son of the Quan family and his excellence in all aspects made him the perfect candidate to become the Butler of the Lin family.

This allowed his two younger brothers to tread the paths they had chosen and that was exactly what they had done.

His youngest brother had three daughters which disqualified them from applying for the position that was currently vacant.

However, his second brother had one son and two daughters, making this youngster the only male member of the younger generation and also the perfect candidate for the job at hand due to his stellar ability and shrewd mind.

Unfortunately for Abel, his nephew's interests lay elsewhere for which he had run away from home as soon as he had turned eighteen in order to follow his heart.

While the entire family knew exactly where he was and what he was up to, they did not attempt to get him back forcibly.

This was because everyone was well aware of just how rebellious he was.

Forcing him against his will would only guarantee that he would run away at every chance he found which would be counterproductive to what the old man was hoping for.

Since the children of the Quan family were playmates of the Lin siblings when they were younger, Young Master Christopher also knew just what kind of person he was.

Hence the young master had indirectly acquiesced to allow his nephew to do what he pleased and did not burden him with the duty of becoming the Lin family's next butler.

Every time Abel thought of this nephew of his, he shook his head and sighed as a great talent that could have been used for the prosperity of the Lins had disappeared from his grasp.

'I wonder how he will react to this news…' The old man who reached the bottom of the staircase by now glanced at the corridor that led to the Lily room and another loud sigh slipped past his lips.

If there was one person who could tame his rebellious nephew, then that person was none other than the Young Miss.

That brat would bare his fangs at everyone else as though they were his sworn enemies who had done some unthinkable atrocity to him in the past.

However, the same could not be said for the Young Miss who was four years younger than him.

Only in her presence, the same rebellious teen in the past would somehow turn into a docile cat that needed to be petted by its owner.

Thinking of this absurd nephew who had come to his mind after a very long time, Butler Quan wondered if he should share this news with the youngster.

After all, he had promised to keep the Young Miss's current health condition a secret from his Master but had never mentioned anything about not sharing this information with the rest.

Everything would be fine as long as this news did not reach the Master and Madame who were away on vacation right now.

With this thought in his mind, the old man's earlier dull eyes brightened and gleamed with mischief just as a wicked scheming smile flashed across his face before vanishing without a trace.

A brilliant idea had just popped into his mind and Butler Quan was now rushing back to his room to put this newfound plan into action.

However, what he did not know was that this same plan would cause quite a few troublesome incidents to be triggered in the near future.

Oblivious of what his actions could lead to, Butler Quan hastened into his room with a bounce in his step as though he was extremely proud of what he was about to accomplish soon.
