10 Affinity

The other candidates looked at him in surprise, wondering why he was speaking up now. But Xylon didn't explain himself any further. He simply stood there, waiting for the next challenge to begin.

As the teams were separated and sent to different corners of the arena, Xylon took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand. He knew that this was just the first of many tests, and he couldn't afford to let his guard down now.

He closed his eyes and visualized the spells and techniques he had been practicing for years, preparing himself for the battle to come.

As the candidates gathered for the first test, Xylon found himself alone, without a group. His classmates, who knew him as the one with weaker magic abilities, organized themselves quickly into teams, leaving him to stand by himself.

As he stood there, lost in his thoughts, John, one of his teachers, passed by him and whispered a message in his ear. "Without a group, you are going to fail the test. You better find a group before the last test, Xylon."

The words left Xylon feeling even more confused and unsure of John's intentions towards him.

The first test, which was meant to test the affinity of the candidates to the different elements of magic, was a simple process.

Each candidate had to undergo a test to determine their affinity for two of the magic elements: water, fire, earth, air, light. The process involved standing in a designated spot in the arena and facing the three testing teachers.

The teachers would then cast a spell on the candidate to test their response to each element.

As the candidates lined up in front of the teachers' desk, each of them took turns stepping forward to have the spell cast upon them. The spell involved a magical technique that allowed the teachers to sense the candidate's elemental affinity.

Some candidates showed an affinity for two. It was considered normal to have an affinity for two elements, as it allowed for a wider range of spells and abilities. However, there were some candidates who showed an affinity for three or more elements, which was considered extremely rare and powerful.

Xylon stepped forward confidently, his mind focused on the task at hand. As the spell was cast upon him, he felt a surge of energy rush through his body. He concentrated on his elemental affinity, focusing on the elements.

Xylon approached the desk where the teachers were casting spells to test the candidates' elemental affinity. He closed his eyes and concentrated, as instructed, on the element he felt the most connected to - fire.

After a few moments, the teachers finished casting the spell and opened their eyes, examining the results on their desks. Xylon calmly waited for their verdict.

"Interesting," one of the teachers said, raising an eyebrow. "Xylon here seems to have an affinity for fire."

Xylon's heart sank. He had been hoping for at least two elements, like many of his peers. Having only one element of affinity made him feel like he was at a disadvantage.

"Is that all?" he asked, trying to hide his disappointment.

Xylon hesitated for a moment before mustering up the courage to speak again. "Excuse me, sir," he said, "but is it possible for someone to have only one element affinity?"

The teacher let out a heavy sigh before turning to face Xylon.

"Yes, that is possible," he said, his voice tinged with annoyance.

"But it's rare, and it's generally not considered as powerful as having an affinity for two or more elements."

Xylon nodded, feeling a bit deflated by the teacher's response. He had always wanted to have a powerful affinity for multiple elements, and now it seemed like that  was slipping away.

But he refused to give up.

" The test is not over yet …I am not done " he said faintly to himself as he walked away from the desk .

The second test was a more practical one that required candidates to showcase their magical abilities through a series of spells. The spells were not specific, but they were designed to assess the candidate's strengths and weaknesses in various areas of magic.

Candidates were tasked with performing a spell for protection, one for attacking, one for healing, one for creating, and one for summoning.

The teachers observed each candidate closely, taking note of their proficiency in each area. They paid particular attention to the spells that were executed flawlessly and those that needed improvement.

This test was not only about performing spells but also about showing creativity and adaptability when dealing with challenging situations.

The candidates were under immense pressure to perform well, knowing that this test would determine their suitability for their future job.

" Don't burn yourself " one guy said to Xylon with a smile on his face .

" I bet you that even if he set fire on himself , he wouldn't get any burn because his fire would be so weak "

Xlon knew that they said that because of his affinity to fire , they said that because he only had one element affinity , they were mocking him for being weak .

He looked at the two of them and saw the sneers on their faces, and something inside him snapped.

His eyes narrowed and he glared at them with a fierce intensity. He could feel the heat rising inside him, as if his affinity to fire was responding to his anger. Xylon's lips twisted into a snarl as he spat out his words, "I don't need any fire to ruin your ugly faces to the point where they are unrecognizable."

The two of them recoiled, surprised by the sudden venom in his words. Xylon stood there, his fists clenched and his breathing ragged, his eyes still fixed on them. It was as if he was daring them to say something else, to push him further.

But they said nothing, and Xylon turned away, his heart pounding in his chest.

"I am really not sure until when I have to contain this anger," he muttered to himself.
