Chapter 20: Confession

We arrived home and Amber and I were silent. Our hearts were beating loudly and I could feel it while holding her hands. We sat down at the dinner table in awkward silence

"…"

I thought I had resolved myself but I was shaking and my words were stuck in my throat. Come on now Jun don't chicken out now Jun or you will regret it!

"So… Jun, did you want to talk to me about something." Amber broke the silence

"...Amber, I want to be honest with you. In these past few weeks, I have been very grateful to you for taking care of me. I had nowhere to go and I had no idea how to live in this world."

"You don't need to thank me Jun, I just could not leave you alone."

"That is what's great about you Amber, you are kind, energetic, can easily get along with anybody, and is straightforward."

"You're exaggerating,"

"No, you are Amber no matter the situation you always bring a smile to those around you," I wanted to be honest with Amber and tell her my true feelings

"You remember I wanted to travel and adventure through all the seven regions right?"

"Yeah, I remember. You also wanted to protect anyone who needed help right?"

"Yeah, I still plan to go to each of the seven regions. But I don't want to have regrets before I set out."

I looked Amber in the eye resolving myself to tell her. She noticed and looked at me as well waiting for my words

"When we're together I feel happy, I think about you a lot when I'm out doing commissions, my heart beats faster when we get close to each other, and your smile brings me safety and comfort. I don't want to lie about my feelings anymore. Amber, I like you…" my heart pounded even more when I said those words. I felt like I was about to faint with so much blood rushing to my head

"Jun…" Amber's cheeks blushed red looking at me with a smile

"I initially thought about not telling because I would soon be traveling and did not want to trouble you. So I hid my feelings and told myself you're just a good friend, but I could no longer lie to myself and have any regrets before I leave."

I waited for Amber's response, I could see she was trying to process everything I said. Every second felt like hours and I was scared of what her response might be

"Jun I…"

My heart pounded hearing what she was going to say

"I… think you are an amazing person. You are compassionate, brave, and a selfless person. You are the first person to run in first to protect everyone from danger and that is what I admire about you. When you saved me from the hilichurls and the Anemo Hypostasis I thought how cool you were and I felt safe when you were beside me. Every night I can't stop thinking about you and I always worry whenever I see you in danger. Even today when I saw you fight against Stormterror I felt anxious about whether you are going to be safe."

I hung my head down feeling guilty about making her worry about me

"I thought I was just worried for a friend who always puts himself in danger but… I know how I feel Jun."

"I love you too Jun…" Amber said with tears in her eyes

When we both felt the same way I felt overjoyed, I felt like tearing up. I stood up and moved next to her as she stood up as well. We both hugged each other and we heard hearts pounding

"It is beating very loudly," said Amber hearing my heart in my chest

"It is because I'm happy Amber. I don't know what will happen to us when I start traveling but…"

"We will get through this together," said Amber finishing my sentence

I smiled and thought I was very lucky to have her "Yes, together."

We looked at each other and felt our hearts beating faster. Our faces got closer and closer before there was no distance left

*chu*

It is the next day and I'm on my way to get Lumine and Paimon. Me and Amber were cuddling a lot last night. When we confirmed each other's feelings as mutual we chatted happily throughout the night staying close to one another. We also went to sleep with each other feeling comfortable and safe. There was nothing naughty that happened last night I swear! She just slept in my arms as we held one another until we fell asleep.

I'm now in front of the hotel where Lumine and Paimon were staying and went inside.

"Hello, are you here to check in sir?" I was greeted by the receptionist professionally

"No, I'm here to pick up a friend. Has a blonde traveler with her floating white-haired child-looking stayed here?"

"Paimon is not a child!"

I heard someone yelling and turned to see Lumine with a still-tired look and a pissed-off Paimon

"Hello Lumine you just woke up?"

"Hey, don't you ignore me! Paimon is still angry for calling Paimon a child!"

"Yeah, I just woke up. Have you already eaten Jun?"

"Hey, don't ignore Paimon too!"

"Hahaha sorry Paimon just wanted to tease you. As sorry, how about I pay for your breakfast."

"Well… if that is the case Paimon will forgive you," Paimon said trying to look angry but I could see her smiling while her mouth was drooling

"I have already eaten Lumine but let me join you. It will be my treat."

"Thank you, you seem unusually happy. Did something good happen?"

I smiled even more when Lumine noticed "Hahaha something like that. You could say I made great progress."

"Hmm… let me guess, is it about Amber?"

I scratched my head trying to hide my embarrassment. "Is it too obvious?"

"With the way you looked and interacted with her yesterday, I had an idea. Congratulations, you better tell me what happened."

We sat in the dining hall of the hotel and ordered food. Lumine and Paimon wanted to know my story. They were relentless and I gave in and told them what happened
