31 Enforcers

Lex saw the fork on the horizon and slowed down his bike.

"By the way, where is your office again?" Lex asked.

"Stark Corporation Headquarters in the commercial district," Elle replied.

Lex nodded and said, "Guess we'll have to take a different route then."

As he said, he turned his bike towards the road that was opposite from where he had come from earlier. It was the same road the two baldies had taken.

Lex chose this because there was a road that connected this highway directly to the commercial district. If he took the original route, then he would enter the city's residential area and would have to give a lot of explanation for riding a bike there.

That would be easy in the commercial district as transportation was common there, and he would also reach the company sooner.

Elle didn't say anything, as this was the same route she took every day. Thinking of that, she remembered something and took out her phone.

She said to Lex, "Don't speed up yet; I'll first message Katie. I forgot she was coming to pick me up today."

Lex nodded and didn't speed up. He continued to ride at a moderate pace while enjoying the view.

[You sure are enjoying there.]

'I mean, who wouldn't enjoy riding a bike while having a beauty on the back.'

[I should add a mission, then.]

'Nah, it's fine. We're not really compatible with each other.'

[That's surprising coming from a narcissistic like you. What? Don't think you deserve her?]

'I honestly don't know. She's different from other girls. Well, anyways, I don't wanna burn my brain cells thinking about it.'

[Hmm, I'll add the mission then.]

'Try it.'

[Tsk!]

"Alright! We can go now."

Lex smiled and said, "Then keep your grip tight because you're about to experience the speed of Star Bike."

Elle did as she was told and held on Lex's Jacket tightly. Lex smiled and pulled the accelerator, shooting the bike on the wide-open highway.

Due to the speed of Star's bike, they soon reached the road that led to the commercial district of the city. Lex slowed down the bike and took the turn to the road.

But they hadn't even travelled much distance before they had to slow down again. Why? Because two specially modified Enforcer cars were in the way.

One was a standard red Jeep of the enforcers, but the second one was a heavy car that was coloured crimson red and had three stars on its rear.

The car of the lieutenant.

Lex wasn't slowing down because there were enforcers in the way. He was doing it because one fat guy wearing the uniform of Enforcers, a deep green-coloured uniform, was signalling him to slow down.

There were also some low-rank enforcers standing around, but Lex didn't bother to look at them. He was more interested in why the fat enforcer was stopping him.

Setting up things if you break a rule in the city was pretty troublesome, at least for Lex. He was too lazy to go through the process, so he always followed the rules.

Even now, he was following every rule, so why was he being stopped?

Lex knew better than to mess with Enforcers in the broad daylight, especially when a lieutenant was present. So he slowed down his bike and parked on the sidelines, close to the car of the lieutenant.

The fat enforcer came close to Lex, who had removed his helmet, and said, "We have to check you, so please cooperate."

"Hmm, Sure, but did something happen?" Lex asked.

The fat officer nodded and said, "There has been an increase in the smuggling of illegal stuff in the city, so we have to set up this checkup."

"Sure, you can check up." Lex smiled and said. He gestured to Elle, who had already jumped down to the ground. He winked at her and also came down from the bike.

Elle raised her eyebrows, seeing the wink, but didn't say anything. Lex, on the other hand, smiled, seeing that Elle understood.

The fat enforcer was suspicious of him, and Lex was interested in what he was planning.

As the fat enforcer saw Lex following every order innocently, a slight smirk appeared on his face. Finally, there was someone who he could use.

A lady enforcer came and began checking Elle. The fat enforcer and Lex watched her.

The fat enforcer gave a side eye to Lex and noticed that Lex's entire focus was on Elle. The fat enforcer smiled and silently dropped something in one of the pockets of Lex's Jacket. It was so subtle and done in a way that even the person standing closest to them wouldn't notice it.

After the lady enforcer finished checking Elle, she found nothing and reported it to the fat enforcer. He nodded at her and said, "Alright then, you can go back."

The lady enforcer saluted and went back to her position.

The fat enforcer then turned towards Lex and said, "Then I have to check you too. I hope you don't mind; this is just an Enforcers job."

"Oh! I don't mind; you guys are keeping the city safe and in order. Can't we citizens endure such small things for you guys?" Lex laughed and said as he raised his arms in the air.

'Oh, you'll have to endure many things for us,' The fat enforcer thought. 'You can only blame your innocence, foolish boy.'

The Fat Enforcer then began to check Lex. He first used a metal detector and then began to check manually.

He slowly checked every nook of Lex's clothes and unintentionally put his hand in the pocket of Lex's Jacket.

His smirk suddenly vanished as he fumbled around his hand in the pocket of Lex's Jacket.

There was nothing.

But how could that be? He had put it in his pocket, so where did it go? The Fat Enforcer was confused as he began to check around Lex's clothes again.

"Don't worry! Officer, I'm a law-abiding citizen and won't do such vile acts as smuggling. You won't find anything." Lex said.
