38 Don't Even Think About It

For some reason, many things happened in this part of her apartment. Was the kitchen special? Li Ruyan always felt that the important things happened in this place and it was not making her happy.

It was because if things continued this way, she would be forced to eat in the same area where the bad and good things occurred.

That wouldn't be nice.

"I'll slice it for you." Min Yue offered as he unboxed the cake from its package.

A round chocolate cake with icing and chocolate drizzle came to view. There were cookies and chocolate chips at the top which made it look very tempting to eat.

Li Ruyan took her seat and received a slice of cake on a plate.

She grabbed a fork and was about to stab a portion of it. However, her hands paused and she placed the fork down.

She let out a deep sigh before pushing the plate away.

"Min Yue."

The aforementioned paused. He was listening to her.

"I feel like there is a lot of misunderstanding between us. And I've thought hard about it... Why don't we.."

"Are you going to leave?" He cut off, stopping her from speaking.

Li Ruyan was not sure how he found out but it must be because she was talking a lot while she was drunk last night. She probably did a lot of embarrassing stuff as well.

She closed her eyes for a second and inhaled deeply.

"I am still considering it."

Min Yue dropped the knife on the floor.

Li Ruyan knew from that alone that she was not the only one who was flustered by the situation.

"Li Ruyan...." She raised a hand to stop him from speaking.

"Min Yue, you really confuse me. In private, you would tell me you love me and would treat me gently but infront of other people.." Li Ruyan met his gaze meaningfully.

"..my status is demoted to a desperate bitch trying to cling to an ex-boyfriend who is already engaged to another woman. At this point, you even treat a stranger better than me." She said sarcastically. She pushed her plate even further.

"I don't like cake anymore. Please take it back."

"I'll buy you something else then."

"No need."

"I'll.."

"I said no need!" She snapped. She gestured to the ring on his hand.

"You are already engaged, Min Yue. From now, please stop coming to my apartment, and didn't I tell you to hand over the duplicate key? I don't want to meet with you anymore since I don't want to be labeled a third party, an escort, a slut, or a whore."

Li Ruyan was not finished with her speech but Min Yue covered her mouth with a hand. He pulled the plate back and smiled at her.

"How about you eat the cake first... We can talk later when you are calmer."

Infuriated by his words, she removed his hand and glared. Disappointment, hurt, and betrayal. There was also a budding seed of resentment as she stared at him.

He gripped her chin.

"Li Ruyan, you said you would trust me. Why are you suddenly making this kind of decision? Are you doubting me? The things I did for that woman were only an act!" Min Yue seethed. His hand slammed on the table, making the plates rattle.

Li Ruyan swallowed as she started to feel nervous.

Min Yue placed his hands on her shoulders, gripping them. It was as if he was making sure that she wouldn't walk out on him.

"You know me the most, Li Ruyan. Do I look like I would fall for that kind of woman? I told you, I have reasons why I am doing this." He breathed in and out. He seemed to be doing his best not to be angry but he looked miserable because his hands were shaking and he could not hide the scary expression on his face.

It made Li Ruyan feel a bit afraid.

While she knows that he would never raise a hand against her, the seed of doubt was planted as soon as the events of last night and the night before that happened.

In public places infront of other people, Min Yue managed to look down on her and humiliate her with his brief words and actions.

Just when she thought that he would keep quiet, she ended up facing his anger.

"Li Ruyan, we have known each other for five years. Five years is a long time. Five years we were together. Five years.."

"..is indeed a long time. Long enough for you and me to change." Li Ruyan said, pushing his hands away. She took the liberty to place the piece of cake back to its original place.

Then she packaged it back and tied it with a ribbon, handing it to him.

Min Yue slapped it away. It landed on the floor with a splat. Li Ruyan regretted not eating it. She threw a dirty glance at Min Yue.

Wasteful, her eyes were saying.

Min Yue laughed. He walked over to her side and caught her off guard by embracing her from behind.

"What are you doing? Min Yue, I am telling you, you should stop. I won't fall for your attempts to cozy up." She struggled against her hold but he was much stronger than her and he was unaffected by the way she flailed around.

"I asked you to trust me... Li Ruyan, that was the only thing I asked of you. I told you that I would tell you the truth but not right now. It is still much too dangerous for that."

Li Ruyan tried pinching his arms.

"I want to believe you. I want to trust you. But Min Yue, if you were in my place, would you be able to stand seeing me with another man?"

"Don't even think about it!" He yelled as soon as the question was aired.
