Chapter 8: Frederick’s Suspicion

[Frederick's POV]

It's been 5 months since I've become a teacher of a prep school year 1 class. As I've observed with all the kids here, there are three interesting students that I've been keeping an eye on. Two of those were the stars of my class while the other one was a very quiet kid. I don't know why, but I feel something different with him, his name is Ernst.

Ever since I saw him on that first day of class, I sensed something around him. I tried to pry it but his presence was quite... How do I say this? Lacking? No. That's not right. It's very abnormal for a kid his age to have that kind of presence at all but it's also impossible for him to learn something like that. So, I investigate a bit and found that he came from a normal household with quite strong parents with a very blurred-out past. I can't seem to find anything after that.

I also found that he liked to stay alone. No other kid wants to play or talk to him and he seemed to like it. This is also something I'm so weirded out about. Why would a young kid act like this?

Even so, he showed normal standard talent in terms of mana manipulation, he's like a regular kid, unlike the twin stars of my class, however, it appears something was missing whenever he do mock battles as well as sparring. I could feel he can defeat his classmates, but he always gets defeated, I could sense he tried his best, but why do I feel like he's doing it on purpose? I can't accuse him irresponsibly as it could tarnish my reputation.

Even when the class battle competition arrived, he seemed to fight with all he's got and still get defeated. I could feel he's at least in the mortal grade of mana, but somehow, I also think he has talents in terms of body cultivation. Sigh~

I'm so confused with this kid, but let me watch him further, maybe I could find something shocking with him.

That's another addition, when I start increasing the level of my mortal-grade mana art.
