14 Chapter 14: Disaster Strike (part 1)

"It's fortunate that we have two returner stones now."

Since entering the dungeon, he had been constantly worried about finding a way out. His wife and son were waiting for him in the village, so he couldn't stay here for long. Moreover, the forest was growing darker, making it dangerous to hunt in the dark.

An unguarded village was like a tempting treat for bandits.

"We should temporarily leave the dungeon. The village has been left unguarded for too long. If something happens to the village, everything we've achieved so far will be meaningless."

"Yes, captain. We may appear reluctant to leave this place, but we've been constantly concerned about our families outside since we entered."

"Alright then, I need five people to accompany me, and the others will go with Nox."

Arnoux explained to Nox how to activate the stone. Although Nox could identify the stone on his own, it would take a lot of time. Moreover, being only a first-layer body tempering, he didn't know how to use his spiritual power effectively.

Just as Arnoux and Nox were about to activate the stone, everyone froze in place as wolves suddenly emerged from the bushes, pouncing on them.

"AAAHHH!"

All eyes turned to see one of their companions on the ground being mauled by a wolf. A sense of alarm resonated within them, and they fiercely fought back.

A few minutes earlier,

Argon, who had been following Arnoux and his group, grew impatient.

"These guys are really elusive, especially their leader. Their hearing is simply inhuman."

Even from a hundred feet away, he could still hear them and had to find a detour.

The group was currently resting.

"These guys even have two returner stones." Argon was amazed by their luck.

"System, do you know how many soul coins I would get from killing these guys?"

"The system doesn't know the specific number. It only knows that the stronger the person, the more soul coins you will receive."

"Really? Or are you just unwilling to say?"

"I would like to remind the host that the system is merely a guide and not the creator."

"Okay, relax. There's no need to be so serious. I was just joking." What a grumpy system.

While Argon was floating above, he noticed a pack of wolves around two hundred feet away from Arnoux's group. There were seven wolves, with one at the second-layer and the rest at the first-layer.

An idea struck him, and he teleported to the wolves. As soon as he arrived, the wolves crouched down.

"Stand up!" It seemed as though the wolves understood Argon's command as they stood up.

"Follow me." The wolves complied, able to understand simple commands.

Argon could only hope that the goblins he planned to buy next would be able to communicate with him. As far as he knew, goblins weren't particularly intelligent.

"Soul coins. I need to find a way to acquire more soul coins."

With enough soul coins, he could even construct a powerful body directly. However, he knew that was just wishful thinking. He needed a significant number of soul coins just to establish a foothold in this world.
