I Come From The Water

Mor is a mermaid, but not those lovey dovey kind that you hear about all over the place. No she is a real Mermaid. One that kills and eats people, lures humans to their death, and laughs while watching. A terror to the Human Race. So who the hell thought it was a good idea to throw here into the middle of a forest!?

A Guild?

(Mor/Lave POV)

Stretching I wondered down to the back of the inn. Yesterday I noticed that there was quite a bit of green space there with a stable. It was still quite early so no one was up yet. I made my way out to the middle of the stable yard.

With no one around that meant that it would be easier to practice. Taking a deep breath I centered myself. Practicing on land was very different from practicing in the water. Instead of going with the flow of water I had to go with the flow of air. I have never mastered this technique and I probable never will. Air is not really my best element. I mean it has no substance. Really who can match with something they can just barely feel. Sigh.

Feeling the short breath of wind that came around the corner of the inn, I began. Slipping a dagger out of its sheath. I turned with the wind. Sliding my left foot behind me and spinning. Dragging the dagger across I twilled it so that it was resting along my arm. Grabbing a second dagger I pushed it forward letting my body fall forward into a roll. I glided through the steps that I would normally do in the water only now on land.

Even with all these years spent practicing on land it still felt uncomfortable. Rolling meant getting caught up in any twigs or thorns. While jumping required less energy but nothing to slow your fall back down. As I spun, jumped and rolled my way through practice I frowned in dissatisfaction. Once two hours past I stopped and put my daggers away. By the end I was switching between my seven different daggers as if juggling.

One would flip out as I threw it and I would grab a new one while pulling the thrown one back to me from its wire. This lead to all seven daggers being in motion at all times while I tried to move along with the gusts of wind. Pretty much impossible. Once I had three daggers out I was no longer able to sync up with the wind. Sigh, Really now.

Dusting the dirt off I walked back into the inn for breakfast. Amice should be up by now.

(Amice POV)

Getting up a little bit earlier than normal I had headed down to the bathroom. There was only one in the inn which felt like a flaw to me but well I don't make inns. On my way back I paused and looked out a window towards the stable. There I saw Lave dancing along with her daggers.

My eyes widened. It was beautiful. Starting out slow and then speeding up as she continued. Daggers flew out everywhere moving around as if they had a life of their own. She was in constant motion never pausing for even a second when changing her position. As if flowing. Stunning.

I don't know how long I stood there but Lave finally came to a stop. She slowly dusted herself off and then sighed while frowning. What could she be unhappy with? As she headed back to the inn I went and grabbed my stuff from my room then headed down to breakfast.

Quietly sitting at a corner table, Lave was already eating her breakfast. "Sigh, Owner can I have something light please. Last night this place was loud and terrifying but now there wasn't anyone here. I wonder why.

Sitting down with my breakfast I talked to Lave. "Today we should go to the Guild." She glanced up at me focusing on the words. Although she didn't understand what I was saying I noticed that she understood the general meaning.

"If we go to the Guild we will be able to make some money." I pulled out a copper coin and placed it on the table. "We don't have enough right now." Also the Guild doesn't ask questions. I'll be able to just walk in and get some work. But really it was a dangerous place. I don't really like to take jobs from them. Sigh.

Breakfast ended quickly. Walking through the crowded morning streets we made it to this towns Guild. All kinds of people could be seen coming in and out of the Guild building. Really what a disorganized place. Walking through the door I headed to the notice board. These were the jobs that I would take.

Carefully I read over the requests. 'Gather dragon root. Reward 10 coppers per plant.' 'Locate a Gram Conner. Reward 3 silver.' 'Kill wild boar. Reward 1 silver.' 'Help plow the fields. Reward 5 copper.' 'Gather pixies tears. Reward 3 copper per plant.'

"Lets do this one." I grabbed the paper from the wall that said 'Gather dragon root. Reward 10 coppers per plant.' "Really the requests are always the same." Turning to Lave I saw her studding the board with great interest. Her beautiful red eyes sparkled as she studied the board. Smiling brightly at her I spoke "Lave, let…"

"Well, what do we have here?" asked a condescending voice from behind. This is why I hate the Guild.
