Beast Taming

If any person on Earth was asked what were the biggest changes on Earth in the past century, then these three topics would be their answer. The existence of these changes can be attributed to an apocalyptic level mistake caused by the pride of the greatest Scientists on Earth more than a hundred years ago.

More than a century ago, a research topic was proposed by a joint coalition of the Earth's Greatest Scientists. This research involved a method to pull a certain type of energy from a different dimension that could revitalize Earth and take it back to its glory days.

At that time, Earth's resources were exhausted by over 53% and the extreme level of pollution on the planet had decreased the average life expectancy of humans to 67 years despite the advanced medical technology they had now.

The greed of Humans had already wiped out almost all of the natural Flora and Fauna that used to exist on the planet. The small amount that existed now was artificially cultivated specimens that were carefully stored in labs.

In face of such conditions, the proposal of these scientists was met with immense support and fervour. Every country in the world started pressurizing this group of scientists to produce results at a faster pace and become the heroes of humanity.

Encouraged by the support of the masses and pressured by the governments of the world, these scientists decided to blindly believe in their research and produce results without performing an extensive series of tests. As soon as a simulation of their method determined that the idea proposed by them was feasible, the construction of the appropriate machines began on a large scale.

Every country in the world rushed to buy one of the prototypes. Many of the smaller countries took an immense amount of loans just to buy even one of them. The largest countries in the world even bought multiple prototypes to increase the chances of their country flourishing.

Everyone felt that it was their salvation. But the day that the machines were activated, everything went wrong.

The research was not entirely wrong, Earth did get a new form of biological energy that seeped into it and all the living beings of the world and caused a fundamental change in their existence that would be noticeable over time.

But at the same time, the machines completely destabilized the barrier between that dimension and the one in which Earth existed. As a result, Earth and its inhabitants faced an apocalypse that they weren't prepared for.

The destabilized boundary between the dimensions produced mysterious space portals that appeared and disappeared randomly all over planet Earth. From these portals, powerful monstrous beasts arrived on Earth in enormous numbers.

The biological energy that Earth received from this dimension was not just useful for revitalizing a planet, it was also useful in the evolution of living organisms. The powerful monstrous beasts that had arrived on Earth were from the same dimension that this energy originated from, hence they had been exposed to it for uncountable generations.

Due to this, these monstrous beasts had powers beyond humanity's comprehension. They were stronger and faster than humans or their tools, while also possessing mysterious powers for which Humanity had no counter.

Even if their numbers were very low, less than 1% of humanity's total population, these beasts were unstoppable. A dimensional war was forced upon humanity by these monstrous beasts. Within a year, Humanity's total population fell by 10%. 20% of the remaining population fell in the next decade. Under constant pressure, low morale, and a lack of resources, 80% of the remaining population fell in the next few decades.

With only 12.6% of the population that existed before this apocalypse, humanity had fallen into a constant decline. While they lost their numbers, hope, and morale, the Monstrous Beasts seemed never-ending, as more and more of them arrived on Earth every year from the randomly appearing portals.

Meanwhile, Earth had been flourishing with a never-before-seen vitality. Never before seen species of Flora and Fauna, that seemed to have been mutated forms of the previously existing ones, appeared on Earth.

There were a large number of similarities between these mutated species and the monstrous beasts that arrived from the portals. Therefore it was concluded that this was a result of the new biological energy that was drawn to the Earth from the other dimension.

Regretfully, however, humans didn't show the same type of mutations. The only changes that were detected in humans included a healthier body, increased life expectancy, and an upgrade in the basic five senses and the elusive sixth sense.

But all of that changed with the arrival of a mysterious group of people. While hiding their real identity, they revealed that Humans could also grow stronger, but the path they had to take was different from other living beings.

Unlike in other living beings, where the new biological energy actively produced growth and mutations, it was majorly dormant in humans hardly producing any changes. But when this dormant energy was combined with various ancient meditation and visualization techniques that used to exist in the ancient civilizations of Earth, a miraculous change produced an ability exclusive to Humans.

The mysterious group of people called this ability 'Beast Taming'. Under their demonstration, humanity came to know that they could form a spiritual link between themselves and the monstrous beasts. This spiritual link was termed 'The Contract' and it was beneficial for both Humanity and the Spiritual Beast they contract with which they form the Contract.

The benefits provided to Humanity by the Tamed Beasts were immediately obvious. Tamed Beasts would protect and follow the commands of their contracted partner. The natural biological energy of these beasts would also form positive feedback to their contracted human, making the human stronger, and healthier, and improving them in all aspects.

In return, the benefits received by the Tamed Beasts were more subtle and long-term. Just like humans received the natural biological energy of these beasts, the beasts in return obtained the specially transformed energy of the humans as part of the Beast Taming. The specially transformed energy could produce faster improvements in power, comprehension, intelligence, and mysterious abilities of the tamed beasts.

Armed with Beast Taming, Humanity started their counter-attack. They formed Contracts with types of monstrous beasts that didn't show much hostility to humans and went after the ones that were slaughtering humanity on a large scale.

As time passed and Humanity grew stronger alongside their tamed beasts, the invading monstrous beasts for a temporary equilibrium with Humanity. While the majority of Earth was still in the control of the invading Monstrous Beasts, humanity had now snatched back small parts of their home back for themselves.

However, the threat had not passed. The might of Humanity was still weaker than that of Monstrous Beasts that were invading the Earth. This was because the power of Beast Taming was not common.

While every human on Earth had the dormant biological energy from the Dimension of Monstrous Beasts, not every human had the potential to turn this energy into the power of Beast Taming. The current understanding humanity had of ancient meditation and visualization methods were too low.

As such, Humanity poured all its resources, time, and energy into further improving the power of Beast Taming. Their efforts were finally rewarded when their research bore fruit.

It was discovered that the Beast Taming ability being used till now could only be considered a beginning. With further modifications and optimizations to the meditation methods, Humanity displayed a more specialized version of awakening Beast Taming power.

Under these new modifications, people started awakening specialized Beast Taming powers that were unique to them. They would now have additional abilities related to Beast Taming.

Some could bond better with Beasts of a specific type and give them a larger improvement in growth rate and power, some could especially store beasts within them, some could turn into hybrid forms by temporarily combining with their beasts, and many more types were born.

It was said that these specialized powers were the result of unique aptitudes every person possessed by birth and that no two powers would ever be the same. The new method for awakening the power of Beasts Taming also increased the success rate by 20% as compared to the previous method that was used by Humanity which had a lower success rate while not even providing these benefits.

However, with pros, there were also cons. As the new method became popular, some specialized powers started becoming more valued than others. This resulted in the creation of a class system for determining which was a more valued type of Beast Tamer.

While some used the benefits provided by this new social system to improve themselves faster and become pillars of humanity, others used the new social system as a way to fall back on the old patterns that showed the despicable nature hidden inside Humanity.

These black sheep of Humanity didn't care if Humanity was still in danger, as long as their greed and pride were sated. They used their status to oppress non-awakened people and Beast Tamers of the lower class.

But even among all these problems, Humanity is still struggling in an invisible war against the invading Monstrous beasts. The war has not ended even for a moment since it began, it just has become harder to notice due to the protection Humanity enjoyed because of the heroes that rose among the Beast Tamers.

However, this precarious situation was like a volcano that was barely suppressed. No one knew when it would erupt, but it would one day.
