Choosing The Royal Knights

"Please eat this; Lady Ruby deliberately brought bread and milk for you because the Lady thought you must be tired after practicing." Dena distributed the food she brought to the royal knights.

Their hands were all shaking because they didn't expect that there would be a woman caring about them.

Kendrick, who had previously spoken ill of Ruby, no longer dared to insult Ruby, even if only in his heart.

The Lycans indeed have larger bodies than Werewolves, but Ruby had a relatively shorter body than most werewolves. She sometimes felt like she looked like a rabbit in the middle of a crowd of giant bears.

"Knights! Straighten your backs and take five steps back!" Matthew's shout immediately made them straighten their backs and move away from Ruby.

They might die if they tried to tease Ruby in front of their king.

"Cough… Milady, have you made up your decision yet?" Matthew softened his voice while talking to Ruby.

Ruby walked to Matthew's side and handed him her notebook. "I don't know which one to choose because I don't know them well. Can Your Majesty give me a recommendation?"

"Recommendation …." Matthew looked at the seven Royal Knights individually.

"Since you need someone who can protect you from any harm, then a suitable person to protect you is the one who can create a strong magic shield."

"So even if you are at a disadvantage for fighting, he can at least create temporary protection until the reinforcements arrive."

Matthew's golden eyes stared at the faces of the royal knights one by one. He seemed to be analyzing their abilities and considering which royal knight he could rely on to protect Ruby.

"Are you willing if I choose you to become the future Queen's royal knight?" Matthew walked in front of Xylon. "You will take full responsibility for her safety and must protect the life of the Queen of Veritas with your own life."

Xylon immediately knelt before Matthew. His head was bowed to respect his king. "I am willing, Your Majesty! It is an honor to protect the future Queen of Veritas."

Matthew tapped Xylon on the shoulder twice. "Sir Xylon Scheiner, I, the King of Veritas, order you to become the protector of the future Queen of Veritas, Lady Ruby Harelle. Your official ceremony will be held on the Queen's coronation day."

As Xylon still lowered his head, he smiled secretly because he felt happy to have such a golden opportunity. If he becomes a royal family's knight, he will spend more time in the palace than in dangerous places, such as forests filled with demon beasts or rocky cliffs.

Who doesn't want to live comfortably in this world?

Xylon also suspected that Ruby was the type of woman who liked being in her room rather than hanging around outside. So, Xylon hoped that he could live a peaceful life.

Matthew and Ruby separated after they left the soldier's training ground. Ruby visited Helena's room while Matthew returned to his study room.

They were only able to meet again when it was almost midnight.

Ruby just closed her book and got ready for bed. However, she immediately got out of bed to greet Matthew, who had just arrived.

Because Matthew rarely sleeps with Ruby in the room, she sometimes feels awkward when she knows Matthew will sleep in the same room.

"Milady, you're still awake?"

Ruby nodded and wrote on Matthew's palm. "I have been reading a book before."

As Matthew stood nearby, Ruby could smell the fragrant scent of her husband's body. Despite their room having a bathroom, Matthew usually cleaned himself in the other bathroom.

"What book did you read?"

Before Matthew finished speaking, Ruby shook her head quickly and pulled Matthew to sit on the bed with her.

They leaned their backs on the pillows. Matthew put his arm around Ruby's shoulder, then pulled his wife to sit closer to him.

Ruby didn't notice Matthew's actions because she was too focused on the book in her hand. Even as Matthew rested his head on Ruby's shoulder, she didn't resist at all.

"I can read the book more clearly in this position," Matthew lied.

Ruby nodded with a smile in response.

For the first few minutes, Matthew took part in reading page after page of the book in Ruby's hand. However, his focus on books lasted only a short time, as Matthew preferred to stare at Ruby's face instead of the book.

He brought his nose to Ruby's flowing hair and smelled the sweet scent of lavender.

"Milady," Matthew whispered as he closed the book in Ruby's hands. "This book is fascinating, but you looked more interesting to me."

"Instead of reading, how about we continue our delayed activities this afternoon?"
