1 The poor Jaffery Lutta

"I feel as useless as shit right now." Jaffery Lutta could not help but mutter between his lips. He was having a headache for not having slept enough for a whole week just because the test exams were about to be held and the teacher said that they have to pass this exam because it would also be shown in their report at the end of the semester.

Jaffery Lutta walked tiredly on the pavement, his mind wondering.

"Why did I came to school? How did I even found myself in this damn school? Schooling is torturous and I am very sure that there is nothing that I will get at the end of it. I am so stupid. I know that going to school will not improve my future living standards because I am sure that I will not get a job. But I just keep coming to school, just to fill up the class. Why have I not dropped out and instead I am still here?" Jaffery Lutta asked himself several questions but he couldn't come up with a better answer himself.

Apparently, Jaffery Lutta was a 16 years old boy who was now studying nursing at Tingen Medical Training Institute (TMTC). 

One may ask as to why Jaffery Lutta was studying in this college, but to say the truth, Jaffery Lutta himself didn't knew why he was here in the first place. Was it really to study so that he could get a job in the future? What was the purpose of Jaffery Lutta being in this college?

For one, Jaffery Lutta himself was very sure that he didn't came to this school to study as anticipated, Jaffery Lutta came to TMTC because he was forced to. Yes, Jaffery Lutta's parents forced him to join this school and this was what was exasperating him. One should know that TMTC branches( minor campuses) were countless countrywide like cabbages in the market and in all these branches, they were full of students.

The country didn't have that many health facilities where all these students would get a job after they finished schooling, whom were the government fooling by having countless TMTC Branches? Not to mention that in other universities, nursing was also being taught there. With all these students partaking in nursing Jaffery Lutta was sure that he would not get a job, and what he was doing in this school was merely a waste of his precious time. But the thing was that Jaffery Lutta could not stop coming to this college even if he knew this, why?

"Watch out you fool. I will slap you the next time you step on my foot." A tall guy shoved Jaffery Lutta into the flowers along the pavement. Because Jaffery Lutta was walking absentmindedly, he had accidentally bumped into this tall guy which made the tall guy angry.

"Hmph! Useless piece of shit! He can't even walk properly, what's wrong with him."

"I heard that his parents can't even afford to buy him an underwear, all that he is wearing right now is second hand clothes given to him for free by people who had gotten tired of wearing them."

"George Githinji is so magnanimous. If that fool stepped on my brand shoes, I would have thought him a good lesson that he would never forget."

"Waaah."Jaffery Lutta remained seated in the midst of the flowers not knowing what to do as he yawned from time to time. He was so tired because he didn't even ate breakfast before he came to school because his parents didn't have the money to prepare breakfast. What his parents knew about, was eating twice a day and because Jaffery Lutta was at school the whole day, he would miss out one of the meals only having to eat supper as the last meal of the day together with his incompetent parents.

Suddenly, Jaffery Lutta's eyes lit up. Where he was sat in between the flowers, he could see some french fries wrapped in an aluminum foil, it seemed that a student who was 'full' threw the rest of the chips here after taking a few bites. 

Jaffery Lutta stretched out his hand and reached out to the wrapping. He could even see some ants which had assembled around the place where he took the wrapping from, also there were still some ants which were still moving around the aluminum foil that was in his hands.

"I think god doesn't want me to die. I hope." Jaffery Lutta murmured to himself relaxedly. There were people in this school who came from rich families and they would throw their leftovers here and there, Jaffery Lutta would always want to take those left overs but he was always afraid that he would be even more embarrassed than he was right now in front of his fellow students. That was why he would simply grit his teeth and observe as his stomach growled in want. 

But right now, the French fries were just beside him, so, he could not ignore them just like that, right? 

Jaffery Lutta had even forgotten that he was still in school and not only that, but he was also beside the pavement where his fellow students were still passing by.

"What is the duffer eating? Is it even edible."

"Kongo, why don't you buy him we food, look at him, he seems to be malnourished." 

"I won't dare! It's better to use my money as toilet paper than to give it to this thrash. If god is with him, why didn't he help him? I am not that kind hearted than god, ok! It's his fault for being born in a poor family."

"What a shame! Who is helping him with the school fees then?"

"Maybe he took a government education loan. Do you think he could afford the fees of this college? I know even those well-wishers who sponsor poor students will not vouch for him."

"Let's go. I fear that we might be infected by his haplessness if we stood here for a long time."

Even though Jaffery Lutta knew that the voices were talking about him, he didn't care as his whole mind was preoccupied by the food in his hands. Since he had lost face already, he could just continue to dig in, right?

"These stupid ants! Allow your father, I, to have this food." Jaffery Lutta patted the aluminum foil to remove the naughty ants off it. He was displeased because the ants were even starting to crawl into his shirt which was now getting on his nerves.

Jaffery Lutta took a piece of French fries and tossed it into his mouth as he felt its taste melting in his mouth before he swallowed it up.

"Look at who we have here. Hahahaha! Of course, it's one and only... Our class' asshole. Yes, Jaff, you are not only a dimwit but also an asshole." A burly youth who was wearing yellow, sparkling, chains around his neck said to Jaffery Lutta.

Hearing this voice, Jaffery Lutta quickly

threw the aluminum foil in his hands aside and stared at the youth in front of him.

"Hey, I am just chilling here. I am not eating some junk left overs." Jaffery Lutta said to this burly youth solemnly.

"Did you guys get that?"

"Bu! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha HaHa Ha Ha Ha!"

"A fool is just a fool. You have already said it yourself. You were eating the leftovers just now, right?" One of the friends of the burly youth asked.

Jaffery Lutta was not afraid about other students knowing that he was eating leftovers but these students in front of him were a nightmare because they were not only his classmates but also, they were known to be bigmouths. Jaffery Lutta was very sure that these youths in front of him will go all around proclaiming what they had just seen. He didn't want the whole class to look at him awkwardly, so, he said.

"Even if you guys have seen me eating some leftovers, where is the evidence? Don't go around spouting some bullshit, alright?"

The burly youth glanced around at his fellow comrades and they too were giving him questioning looks. No one among them took a picture of Jaffery Lutta eating those leftovers.

"Even if you refuse to admit, the class will still accept it from my mouth. I don't need some evidence to tell other students about this. Guys, let's go. This trash is an eyesore." The burly youth turned to leave with his friends.

"Guys..." Jaffery Lutta wanted to tell the youths something but when he glanced in front of him, his jaws fell on the floor.
