30 Chapter 27: Human

-inside the great green forest-

POV: Blanche

I stared at the hierophant in front of me, his eyes staring at me with such intensity that he almost seemed to want to see my soul as his body slowly faded away and turned into a mist that remained floating in the air.

It was his vampire essence, the last trace of the vampire king's court in this world.

I really wanted to feel happy for this achievement, I was one step closer to exterminating the last of the vampires along with their king.

but the last words of the hierophant kept echoing in my head, forcing me to ask myself a question that I have been avoiding for 20 years now.

What am I?

a human? a hunter? a murderer? a monster? Ryan Gosling? (obviously) I could go on like this all day and I'm sure I'd never find the answer, just like all the other humans

Why am I fighting vampires?

why save humans?

Why do I have a fucking plan to save Simon and Betty in the first place?

what is my motivation?

Am I a human or something else?

Why do I even bother with all this?

It's a thousand damn years of waiting...

my mind was filled with reasons to get away from everything and just live in peace until my death in a cabin away from cosmic entities and dangers

but there is where the duality of a man enters

images of my travels with Simón flashed through my mind

those nights where we stayed up all night playing video games or learning to play instruments

memories of little Marcy crying in the middle of that ruined city and all the other happy moments that this world gave me

and finally memories of my past life also left the back of my mind

I remember my mother, she was always in poor health, some of her organs were not working properly so she was sometimes hospitalized for several weeks

And when she wasn't in the hospital every day, she had to take various pills and deal with pain for much of her life.

As if that were not enough, fate also decided to take away her ability to walk normally with two accidents.

she had an accident in her youth that took away some of her mobility in her left leg and several years later she had an accident because a son of a xxxxx forgot to clean several stones on the bus steps

I know because I was with her that day

but she did not shed a single tear as she tried to calm me down by telling me that she was fine

her fall severed several tendons in her right knee so she was never able to move her legs properly again, luckily she still retained her ability to walk

she continued to live like this with me and my sisters without my father to support her due to the divorce

Until the day of her death

a virus caused a chain reaction with all of her other health problems ending her life in a hospital bed before the age of 40

Although her life treated her horrible, I never saw her cry or complain

she just kept going without looking back, she still danced without being bothered by her reduced mobility or people's stares

she sang while she cooked

or made bad jokes because she knew they irritated me

she enjoyed life

she taught me to never give up

not to make fun of the appearances or beliefs of others

have empathy

I guess that makes me more human than monster

a monster doesn't wonder what he is or care about the answer

I keep going because it's really the only option I'm willing to choose

I looked at the vampire mist that was still floating in the middle of the forest.

"I suppose you were only right about one thing, hierophant"

"in the end no matter how powerful or indestructible I become, I will always be a human"

*sigh* "okay, enough existential crises for today, now get in the jar!"

Blanche took a jar out of the apparent nothingness and began to chase the mist that seemed to be fleeing in fear.

-human camp-

(next day)

the sun was at its highest point in the sky illuminating everything

the human-populated camp consisting of tents and various primitive wooden facilities was now in the process of moving

although the camp was very close to the coast where the dock was next to the ship to migrate to another continent

Due to the latest kidnapping incident the humans decided to now live inside the spacious ship which was equipped with all the necessities they might need during the voyage.

This casualty-free incident alerted the tribe's population, the vampires now on the verge of extinction will surely attack like rabid animals for revenge.

while the humans packed up all their belongings and left everything unnecessary behind, our protagonists were busy relaxing without any worries

both were on the pier on the shoreline, both wore shorter and lighter clothes than their normal clothes, each had sunglasses on their faces, with fishing rods in their hands and fishing hats on their heads

one of the hats was black and covered a head of white hair and the other was white covered black hair

each hat had the name of its wearer embroidered

the black hat had embroidered the name Blanche and the white Marcy

both sitting on beach chairs enjoying the sea breeze and the sun rays that kept their bodies warm

*inhales* *exhales* "this is life Marcy, no vampires, no oozers, just peace and quiet"

Blanche lazily leaning back in the chair interrupted the silence

Marceline lazily turned her head to look at him and slightly lowered her sunglasses to reveal her dark eyes.

"I gotta say it nerd, when you're right, you're right"

*sigh* "how much longer will you continue with the nerd thing?, it's been years"

"How many books have you read so far?"

"Well all the ones I've found-" Blanche stopped mid-sentence looking at Marceline who was trying to suppress a smile.

"It's ok, you win"

(a couple of hours later)

Marceline and Blanche were now sitting on a log next to each other in front of a campfire on the sand on the beach, branches tipped with fish they caught earlier.

they were both looking at the fish slowly cooking over the fire in comfortable silence.

"today was a good day, Marcy really needed it, these days have been stressful"

Marceline didn't take her eyes off the fire, but she moved closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder.

"No problem, we are partners after all, plus you're annoying when you're stressed, 'Marceline, we have to train, Marceline we have to bring food to the camp, Marceline you can't cut off that giraffe's head'"

Marceline imitated Blanche using a strict tone.

*laughs* "I guess you're right, but you have to admit that someone needs to make sure you don't set fire to the camp by mistake"

"okay~, I guess we balance each other out"

"yeah, that's one way to look at it"

the place was silent again

Blanche slowly looked away from the fire and looked at Marceline who rested her head on his shoulder.

"Do you remember when you asked me if you were in my plans for the future?"

This brought a small blush to Marceline's face who didn't take her eyes off the fire.

"Yes... I remember, why do you mention it?"

"Well, I just wanted to say..."

A trace of hesitation showed in his voice, but it quickly disappeared replaced with firmness.

Marceline lifted her head and looked into his eyes, they were both inches from each other.

"that I plan to be with you until my heart stops...or until the sun explodes, I will never leave your side"

If before she had a little blush, now her face looked like a big tomato, she understood what he meant by this, but she still had to ask to be sure.

"That means you..."

"Yes, exactly"

Now his face was getting closer and closer, so much so that she could feel his breath on her face.

They were getting closer with their lips almost touching until-

"BLANCHE!! MARCY!!" (muahahahaha)

a voice coming from the pier interrupted them at the last second

both with their faces still colored red turned towards the pier

it was Chemy who was calling them

they both stood up almost instantly and quickly separated, falling into an awkward silence.

Blanche was the first to speak.

*cough* "I think we should..."

"yes! yes! we should see what happens"

An embarrassed Marceline didn't let him finish speaking before flying off at full speed towards the pier.

"shi-"

(author: sorry but you will have to wait a couple more chapters)

-pier-

Chemy watched in confusion as Marceline sped up and landed on the dock, her face still red.

"What's up Chemy, why-"

"why is your face all red? *giggles* you look like a tomato"

Chemy cut her off as she pointed to her face and laughed.

*cough* *cough* "my face doesn't look like a tomato! besides, you'll understand when you grow up, now tell me what you want"

*laughs* "ok whatever you say, Mr. Tom wants to see you and Blanche to make an announcement to the whole tribe"

"what kind of announcement?"

a different voice sounded behind Chemy

Both of them dwelt behind chemy to see several snowflakes that quickly gathered in one place and began to form a human shape.

It was Blanche who traveled from the beach to the pier turned into snow

Chemy didn't look surprised, it was a habit for Blanche to move around the camp like this.

"What kind of announcement, Chemy" he repeated again

His face looked pale as always, but his eyes avoided Marceline's.

"I really don't know, but Tom already gathered the whole tribe on the boat, he wants you to be with him while he makes the announcement"

"I see, then let's go"

Blanche avoided looking at Marceline to keep his face free of blush and walked briskly under Marceline's watchful eye towards the boat on the other side of the pier.

"How interesting..." Marceline murmured.

this murmur was heard by Chemy

"what's interesting?"

"It's nothing you need to know right now Chemy, come on"

Marceline took Chemy's hand and walked behind Blanche, but now she had a slight smile on her face.

-on top of the boat-

Tom was at the top of the boat in front of the entire assembled tribe, Blanche was on his right and Marceline on his left.

"Everyone please listen to me! I have gathered you here to make a very important announcement!"

all the humans were silent waiting for his next words

"The ship is officially finished! Soon we will leave in search of a better future!"

"So I officially name this ship 'The Hope Seeker!' "

all the humans cheered and hugged each other at that moment, finally their years of surviving were coming to an end
