Chapter – 50 Explaining!

"You're back. I heard that you won the match. Great fight." Max said as Neil approached him, "Yeah, it was fun. My nervousness also disappeared when the fight started." Neil was happy about him winning his first match. Now, all that was left was to wait until they were called again to fight. It was the first time for everyone to see two newcomers win their fights without getting even a single scratch on them, and what's more, they had defeated their opponents with overwhelming strengths. Until now, they were only wary of Max but now they were seeing Neil as the same.

"Max, I need to get more arrows before my next fight, as you can see, I used all of them in my last match. I'll be back shortly." Neil said as he walked off to another room where participants can get spare weapons, it was not used too often cause all of the participants were used to bringing their own weapons but in case if they break their weapons or need some extra weapons for their fight the arena provides them with that. They had built a special room for spare weapons alone in the arena. Max had found out about other stuff too like there are also some other similar places here for food, clothes, and other things.

Max was left waiting alone while Neil was away, he was still wondering about the last message from his system. He didn't what kind of thing he will be getting into after he absorb a soul, he was even thinking that the ghost of the dead will be haunting him if he absorbed their souls. But he needed to find out, he was sure that system won't be harming him after he absorb a soul, thus he decided if he encounter a guy who deserves to die, he won't hesitate to absorb their soul. "It would be better if the system can give me a detailed explanation about this stuff. Sometimes it's so annoying." Max thought as he kept his eyes closed while he waited.

While Max was waiting, he heard some guys talking about Neil's fight, "Did you guys hear that the newcomer had used some sort of ability, he was able to form an ice arrow out of thin air, and after it hit Edward, he was frozen. He is still in the medical room getting treatment. I'm going to give up if I have to fight that kid." One of the guys said, "I also heard that he was gonna shot him dead but the announcer stopped him." the other guy said. Max was listening to their conversation; he didn't know Neil did something like that. Now, Max thinks about it he realized that Neil looks thin and weak, then how was he able to do all of that?

"That guy is becoming suspicious; I should ask him first, and see whether he will tell the truth about his strength or hide it. Then I will decide what should I do with him." Max thought as he waited for Neil to come back. "I need to be careful about that guy from the forest too, he didn't see my face but I'm sure he will recognize my ability if I used it in the public, I would give up on my fight rather than let him know that I was the one who stole the crystal from him." Max suddenly remembered about Marcus and he didn't know the origins of that guy, he decided to only use hand-to-hand combat and his sword skills to hide his identity. There was a chance that he might be in the audience watching the fights, he can recognize Max by his ability.

"Why didn't I wear a mask, I'm stupid to come here without thinking it through," Max said to himself, now he was getting worried about his identity getting exposed to that guy, he didn't even know whether he was in the audience or not but it was making Max overthink if that guy comes after him, Max won't even stand chance against him. That person would be able to kill him without even breaking a sweat. "From next time, I will think twice or thrice before doing something, or someday I'll get into some serious trouble cause of it." Max's facial expression was changing a lot and the other fighters seeing that were getting confused. From the start, Max hadn't shown a single bit of nervousness or was scared but now he was looking like that he would have to face some scary beast alone. They didn't dwell too much on that matter ignoring Max they continued what they were doing.

"Is everything okay, with you?" Neil had come back after getting arrows for his next match, and when he saw Max with those weird expressions which were changing every second, he couldn't help but ask him what was wrong with him. Max was sitting on the bench when he saw that Neil had returned, and was standing in front of him. He remembered that he also had to ask Neil about his ability which the other person hasn't talked about yet.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine I was just having some thoughts about something. Also, Neil, I heard that you had an ability, that you used in your last match." Max questioned, at first Neil was quiet for a second then he started explaining. "Listen I wasn't hiding that, it's just I don't like talking about that, people look at me differently after knowing about that. Also, it was not an ability it was magic, Ice-magic more specifically." Neil said but what picked Max's interest was that Neil said that it was magic. Max still didn't understand the difference between those two, and now he was thinking maybe this guy would be able to explain that to him.

"What's the difference between ability and magic? And why were you aiming to kill your opponent in the last fight?" Max also brings up the topic of Neil's change of nature in his fight. "You got a lot of questions, but it's okay, I'll explain that," Neil said and sat down beside Max.

"Look the difference between these two is very simple, an ability is made up of different types of magic being used at the same time but it's not like that person would be able to use all those magic one at a time, he can use the ability but not the base magic for that ability, and ability can be taught to other's whether you got an aptitude for it or not."

"As for magic it's more like a person has to have an affinity with the magic only then he would be able to use the magic, and once they started learning magic for some reason, they can't learn an ability after that. But there are some cases where some people were able to learn more than one magic at a time, and later they become a lot powerful cause of that." Neil was trying to describe everything to Max in simple terms and it looks like Max was able to easily understand because of that.

"And for my change of behavior in the match, I didn't mean it. It was more like a reflex to my body, my parents trained me from childhood and their training was harsh, it made me act like that whenever I'm in a fight. Does this satisfy all your curiosity about me or do you need to know more about something?" Neil can understand why Max would ask for his change of nature but he didn't understand why would he had asked him to explain the difference between ability and magic. Everyone already knew how both of these worked here, it was a bit odd for Neil but he ignored it, thinking that Max might have never studied.

"Yeah, thanks for explaining to me all of that and telling me the reason behind your different nature. Anyways are you ready for your next fight?" Max said as he didn't want to make it awkward between him and Neil. "Yeah, I got my arrows and this time I'll be taking some extra arrows with me. I don't wanna hurt someone seriously while using my magic arrow." Neil said, same as Max he was also here to just practice his skills before he enters the world of adventurers.

"What about you? You were looking out of zone earlier, are you having any trouble for your next fight?" Neil repeated his question from earlier, for which Max had just given him a normal response, which everyone uses to avoid talking about something specific. "It's nothing serious, I won't have any troubles in my next fight. I just wish they can hurry it a bit." Max said.

"Okay, if you say you are alright then I won't say anything about it." Saying that both of them went quiet and waited for their next fight. While everything was going well in the city, it wasn't the same for the forest. There was chaos inside there, no one wanted to visit the forest right now, and even the regular hunters who used to hunt in every kind of situation were resting in the city. Everyone was just hoping that the queen would send someone sooner to kill the beast.
