He used that skill until he reached in front of those monsters. He used his shield smash skill toward those wolves. This attack killed 5 wolves. Now only 5 wolves were remaining. 10 wolves already were killed by previous attacks. Those remaining 5 wolves already have low health. Alex just killed all those 5 Wolves using his normal slash.
After finishing all those wolves, he collected all the loot and brought out a high-level mana potion. He did not lose that much health, but his Mana points were very low. It just takes him 1 minute to recover completely his Mana.

Using that and after paying 1000 gold coins, the armor got upgraded.
