16 Midterms

The next day I arrived at the classroom, and everyone was already waiting in their seats, doing last-minute studying. I took my seat and turned behind me at Sudo.

"Did you study enough to pass?"

"Ah...yeah. What about you?" Before he replied, his head almost fell down if not for his hand supporting it. It was visible that he didn't sleep that well last night.

"I feel like taking the first place" I said with a half-joking tone and smirk on my face. I turned back to face the whiteboard.

"Good luck with that, there is just no way you will get a higher score than Horikita" Sudo replied disinterestedly as if he didn't even consider such a possibility.

"...Wanna bet?" I leaned my head back and looked at him with a wide grin.

The upside-down Sudo in my vision frowned upon hearing my question.

"Forget it just focus on reviewing the material"

'I would do just that if I could.' I stopped talking to him and noticed Inogashira winking at me with an encouraging smile which I returned back to her.

Chabashira arrived and before she handed the tests to us, she gave us a few encouraging words regarding the vacation.

The day midterm results were supposed to be announced arrived very quickly.

The moment Chabashira walked inside the classroom, she took out the posters with the results of each subject and pinned them to the board.

"WHAT?!!!" Several students exclaimed, no...shouted the moment they saw the scores. Among those voices, I could discern Sudo's and Yamauchi's voices but I had no idea who else caused this commotion, however, they all certainly garnered the rest of the class's glares. While everyone was observing the scores, I already took out the calculator and quickly sum up the scores before dividing them by the number of students to reveal the average score and failing mark. Sudo still scored below 50 points but he was 3 points above the failing mark so I heaved a sigh of relief

"Even if I do share your astonishment, please refrain from interrupting the class again" Chabashira closed her eyes and "calmly" warned them, though her voice brought them shivers as if it belonged to a banshee.

"Nevertheless, well done...Ike" Chabashira snapped her eyes open and looked at me with a faint smile. Her words made everyone else turn at me which honestly made me quite uncomfortable.

'As I thought, being a center of attention isn't good. If it wasn't for that quest, I wouldn't bother doing all this'

"Not suspicious at all, right?!" I grinned at her, making her raise an eyebrow at my words.

"You didn't cheat, that much is given. Anyway, good job everyone, it seems like none of you have to face the expulsion yet"

The word "yet" irked a few students but no one said anything.

On the scoreboard, my name was the first in all subjects since I scored a perfect 100 in all of them. I noticed Inogashira's name and was slightly surprised to see her average score was around 95. This was a good reminder for me to actually reward her somehow since she has been doing nothing but studying whenever she was meeting me.

Anyway...

[Congratulations on finishing another quest (1st condition)]

[+ 100 Contribution points]

[Gained a new skill: Clairvoyance lv. 1 (0/100)]

[Clairvoyance lv. 1 (0/100) - At the current level greatly enhances your vision and decreases the time for information from the eyes to reach the brain. It's a passive skill however its effectiveness can be strengthened by focusing on a single target, may be mentally very exhausting.]

'Damn! Just those contribution points are enough to increase my stats by 1 whole point. If I were to convert it to the time spent training, it would be equal to at least a few months!'

I was definitely happy with the rewards and the new skill also sounded very useful.

[The skill is named Clairvoyance and not something related to vision or eyes for a reason. I suggest taking a look at some sports clubs.]

As the system suggested, after the school hours ended, I instantly went to take a look at the basketball club.

"I still can't believe you actually had a better score than Horikita...By the way, why are you here again?" Sudo muttered before giving me a weird look while dribbling with the ball on the spot.

"I just wanted to take a look at your club activities, who knows I might even join the club" I said with joking tone but Sudo took it seriously.

"Heh, as if you would be able to join with your height and muscles." Sudo laughed a bit before he threw the ball at the basket.

The moment the ball left his hand, I saw a strange line connecting the ball to the rim and continued down next to the rim.

"Miss" I muttered while watching this wide-eyed.

*bang* The ball hit the rim and bounced on the right side of the rim.

"Huh? Are you here to irritate me?" Sudo frowned at me, displeased that I was right.

"Throw another" I ignored him and said with my eyes wide open.

"In" *whoosh*

"Another!"

"In", "In", "Miss", "backboard in"

Clairvoyance lv. 1 (0/100) -> Clairvoyance lv. 1 (1/100)

"Aaagh! What the hell? Do you have experience with basketball or what?" Sudo asked with an annoyed expression.

"Nope, I was just guessing, haha. I will leave you now" I grabbed my bag and was about to leave.

"I call that bullshit! I wouldn't be so surprised if you just chose terms in and miss since it would be fifty-fifty, however, you even specifically said "backboard in". How do you expect me to believe it was simple guessing?!"

I heard Sudo shouting at me but I kept walking while waving at him with the back of my hand.

[Ino Koko: Did you see my test scores?! O.M.G!]

[Be careful not to become an actual nerd] I quickly replied to Inogashira's message.

[Ino Koko: You are the one to talk! You received the perfect of the perfect scores!!! Nerd!]

[I guess we are both nerds. Studying the entire day before the test...I doubt even Horikita-san goes that far for studying. At least now we will have time for some physical training, though I doubt you will be happy reading it.]

[Ino Koko: Spare me the suffering]

[You know...behind that idiotic image of me, I must confess to being a little bit of a sadist. I just thought I might let you know beforehand.] I wanted to give her a bit of fright.

[Ino Koko: ...I will run away, seriously]

[Hehe, that's exactly what I will be demanding from you]

Another month arrived when yet another event was supposed to take place. Ever since I finished the second quest, I hadn't received any notification about the third one. I also have yet to spend my contribution points since I have no idea if I should invest them into stats, my current skills, or acquire a new skill.

The morning we were supposed to receive private points...

Chabashira arrived and informed us of our class points which numbered 92, slightly above the original value. She also explained that the distribution of points has been delayed but didn't specify it any further.

'Since there isn't any quest, should I even involve myself in this event? It's not like this is going to end badly for him either.' I thought while swinging on the chair and looking at the ceiling with a thoughtful expression.
