1 Chapter 1 Resentment

"Finally…"

In a quiet and dimly lit room, Moses looked down at his palm, and a soft glow reflected in his pupils.

He watched as the bright, white light moved restlessly around on his hand.

This white light is the life energy that is naturally released from the human body, which is known as "Aura" or "mind force".

For ordinary people, it is difficult to sense the presence of Aura, because of that, they could only unknowingly allow it to dissipate naturally.

Sensing Aura, releasing Aura, retaining Aura… the process has never been simple.

It took Moses an entire year's worth of trial and error to just barely control his Aura.

This stage represents that he has officially crossed the threshold called "Nen".

However, rather than this rather significant first step, what made him more happy was—

"I already expect to master the basics of 'Ten', but what's more important is that… my soul is finally in tune with my body."

Moses exhaled slowly, his mood suddenly became a little complicated, and then he murmured softly, "It's already been a year… Sigh… Time flies by so fast…"

A year ago, he was driving back to his hometown.

However, while crossing a highway tunnel, a dense fog suddenly appeared in front of him.

At that time, he reacted quickly and slowed down, also turning on his fog lights in the process.

But the moment his car entered the fog, his vision spun and he passed out. By the time he regained consciousness, his soul was attached to the body named Moses Isaac.

At the same time, various fragmented memories appeared in his head.

At that time, he was utterly confused, and had no idea what had happened.

Moreover, these disjointed memories not only failed from helping him quickly figure out the current situation, but also caused him to suffer from various mental and physical problems later on.

What made things even more troublesome was that everything initially felt foreign to him.

Fortunately, this body's original owner happened to be in a coma due to head trauma…

This gave him the perfect amnesia excuse, thus allowing him to slowly familiarize himself with his new environment.

In the year that followed, Moses only stayed at home. He tried his best to overcome the various physical problems while studying, reading, and training.

Then, through various books and digesting some of the memory fragments, he realized that he had crossed over to the world of "Hunter x Hunter". This prompted him to start trying to sense the existence of Aura.

And today, his efforts finally bears fruit.

Now, he felt rejuvenated, as if he was reborn.

"But it is still far from enough…"

Moses focused his mind, then visualized wrapping the Aura around his body.

Upon realizing he was in the world of Hunter x Hunter, his first thought was to learn how to use Nen.

This was a very important form of backing and security for him, so he needed to get a better grasp of this power.

In the dark room, a cluster of white light fluctuated, undulating like waves.

As time passed-

The undulating white light gradually stabilized at a speed visible to the naked eye.

This was a sign that Moses had begun to master Ten, being able to wrap his aura stably around his body.

"I actually progressed so quickly."

Moses looked down at the smoothly flowing aura on his body, and was quite surprised.

From undulating to flowing smoothly, he had initially thought this process would take a lot of time, but now, it only took him less than ten minutes.

'Was it because of the disappearance of the body's rejection that the efficiency of my awakening was so high?'

There was no way to find out the answer, so Moses didn't linger on the issue.

Once his Aura's state became stable, his next goal was to make this state instinctive.

Reaching that level would be akin to being cloaked in an all-encompassing, transparent armor at all times.

At the same time, the Aura that would normally be lost was retained and would be wrapped around his body at all times, which reduced the consumption of his life force. With that, living a long live wouldn't be a problem at all.

Thinking of this, Moses raised his head and looked out the window at the night, his heart is filled with motivation.

Now, it was time for him to embrace this new world.

"Hmm?"

Suddenly, Moses's eyes were attracted by a wisp of foreign aura at the window edge.

"What is that…?"

He quickly focused his gaze.

The foreign Aura was like a wisp of black gas, floating above the window edge like a willow wisp.

"Black Aura… and it's very faint."

Moses stared at the wisp of black Aura.

He immediately recognized this black Aura as something left behind by humans after death. It represented residual emotions, spirits, and even resentments left behind by human after death.

In this world, such lingering feelings after death were fairly common.

But the Post-Mortem Nen left behind by ordinary people was generally very faint, almost nonexistent, and would not have any impact on reality.

Only the kind of Nen that was created from a strong emotion before death had a certain degree of strength, and the power to influence the world.

However, the Nen left behind after the death of ordinary people, even when saturated with intense emotions, usually posed no threat to Nen users.

Interestingly, in a world where anyone could learn Nen in a step-by-step manner…

The vast majority of Nen users didn't possess the ability to eradicate these Post-Mortem Nen, even if they were harmless.

The only people who had the ability to eliminate Nen were a small group of people called Nen Exorcist.

The black Aura in front of Moses was a Nen tainted black because of intense emotions.

It had always been there, and the old Moses just couldn't see it.

But now that Moses has open his Aura nodes and had mastered Ten, he could see the Post-Mortem Nen that ordinary people couldn't see, thanks to the Aura wrapped around him.

'Why is there Post-Mortem Nen in the temple? Could it be…'

Moses touched his chin, and started pondering.

The home where his predecessor lived was a temple built on a scenic mountain, with only him and his father, a monk who ate meat and drink alcohol.

If there was anything special about the temple—

Apart from drawing lots and offering incense, as well as throwing coins to make a wish in the pond in front of the main hall, this place was also the home of many relics.

The deceased's relics, along with their last wishes placed on the altar, are one of the unique aspects of this temple.

Which means…

This wisp of resentment was likely to have come from that pile of relics.

Moses stood up and slowly walked to the window. He then observed the wisp of resentment at close range.

It appeared fragile, as if it would dissipate upon touch.

It posed no threat to ordinary people, let alone him, who had just entered the threshold of Nen users.

"Huh?"

Moses looked down to the bottom of the resentment.

He discovered that this strand of resentment wasn't rootless, and at its base was an even finer thread of resentment.

"A thread?"

Moses's eyes narrowed slightly, and he subconsciously followed the resentment thread to look at the courtyard outside his window.

From his position, he could see the courtyard paved with green bricks in front of the main hall. And at the center of the courtyard was a release pond roughly half the size of a basketball court.

Although termed as a release pond, there were no living things inside the pond, and there's just water and a floor covered in coins.

At this moment, Moses's attention was firmly absorbed by the release pond.

Under the moonlight, the calm water of the release pond was covered with a mire of sticky resentment, emitting a terrifying aura.

Cold and violent.

Filled with intense malice!

Just by taking in this sight made Moses feel a great threat.

"You've got to be kidding…"

This unexpected scene caused Moses's eyes to widen in shock.

A chill ran down his spine.

'Why would there be such an enormous amount of resentment in this seemingly ordinary temple?'

Such intensity was not something that a pile of relics could create!

It was so intense that if an ordinary person were to touch it for just a moment, they might die on the spot.

Even after crossing over into this world for a year, he had never detected the massive resentment accumulating in the pond.

Moreover, visitors, who had come to visit the temple to offer incense, would throw coins into the pond to make a wish, but nothing happened to them.

Many doubts raced through Moses's head.

At the same time, because of the dangerous Aura emanating from this group of resentment, Moses quickly backed away.

Perhaps it was Moses's gaze or the retreat that stimulated the resentment in the release pond, or maybe it was attracted to him because of his Nen.

As if the thick mass of resentment had become conscious, it quickly shrank its body and immediately pounced towards Moses.

Its speed was extremely fast, and it only took less than a second for the mass to fly over a distance of dozens of meters, coming at Moses directly.

Moses suddenly felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. He only had time to release his Aura to the maximum extent to form a defense, when he was hit by this mass of resentment and lost consciousness on the spot.

However, the resentment did not continue to attack Moses, and it just hovered silently in mid-air.

The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. The moonlight outside the window quietly disappeared. The darkness was oppressive, making one feel suffocated.

This small temple standing on top of the mountain seemed to hide untold secrets.

Approximately three seconds later, the hovering resentment once again assumed an attacking posture.

However, just as it pounced towards Moses again, a circular hole suddenly opened on the water surface of the release pond, like a manhole cover had been lifted.

Yet, at the center of this hole was a glowing red arrow, pointing straight at the resentment.

When the hole shaped like a sewer entrance appeared on the surface of the release pond, the resentment, which was pouncing at Moses, immediately froze in mid-air.

Immediately afterwards, an invisible suction force pulled the resentment toward the circular hole on the surface of the release pond.

The resentment struggled frantically, but to no avail.

After a few seconds, it was pulled into the hole by this suction force and disappeared without a trace.

As the resentment disappeared, the circular hole rapidly shrank to a tiny black dot, and then disappeared into thin air.

Once again, the room was suddenly so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

After a while, on the wall near the window of the room, a small black dot with an edge exuding the luster of Nen suddenly appeared, and then expanded into a circular black hole with a diameter of more than one meter.

In the middle of the hole, which was so dark that you couldn't even see your fingers, there was a green arrow floating in the middle.

As it floated silently, the green light on the arrow became more and more dim.

Then, one large and one small figure appeared in the dim green light.

The larger figure was a bald, middle-aged man with a beard but no eyebrows.

This bald man was none other than Moses's original body's father, Hawk.

And the smaller figure was a rather peculiar-looking rat about the size of a soccer ball.

The rat had no nose or mouth, and its large round eyes took up almost half of its face. The rat's ears cannot be seen, with only a circle of coil-like pattern.

Atop the rat's head was an arrow mark. And at the end of its long and pointed tail, there is an angry expression made of Aura the size of a baby's fist.

Hawk, who is covered in a bright layer of numinous light, came out of the green arrow and quickly came to Moses's side.

And the strange-looking rat followed closely behind Hawk, walking with silent steps.

Hawk squatted down and examined Moses. After confirming that there are no serious injury, he sighed in relief, "Moses, you brat…"

Hawk stared at Moses's face with a strange gaze and muttered, "You were ignorant about Nen, yet you awakened it under the suppression of the 'Divine Script'… Was it luck? Or talent?"

After a pause, Hawk sighed again, and a look of worry passed over his face.

"Before the 'cost' is completely resolved, it is not a good thing for you to awaken your Nen."

Early morning the next day.

The soft morning light passed through the window and filled all parts of the room.

Suddenly, Moses opened his eyes with a jolt, and reflexively jumped up from his bed.

"Bed…"

Realizing he was in bed, Moses instinctively maintained his Ten.

Jumping off the bed, he cautiously peeked out the window towards the release pond.

A thin mist enveloped the courtyard, with the morning light streamed through it, as if everything that had happened was just a dream.

The large mass of resentment seen last night was nowhere to be seen.

"It's not there anymore…"

Moses frowned and murmured, "Was it all a dream?"

He withdrew his gaze and carefully inspected his body. There was nothing wrong with it, and there was no stain at all.

However, the intense pain he felt from the attack last night felt so real.

If he were truly struck by that level of resentment, he couldn't possibly be left unscathed.

Injury is the inevitable result.

Yet, the fact is that the body is intact and there is no injury at all. This was very perplexing…

"Maybe I'm just too tired."

Moses shook his head slightly, contemplating about the connection of the resentment to the release pond. If it truly existed, it would be impossible for it to disappear so completely. And with himself being unharmed, he attributed last night's event on the nightmare, and then then made his way to the bathroom.

Squeak—

Turning on the faucet, water poured out.

Moses took some water and splashed his face, then looked at the mirror.

The slightly water-stained mirror reflected a young face with fair skin and delicate features.

13 years old.

That is the age of his new body.

Although he is young, he is very good-looking.

Moses also had a good-looking appearance in his previous life, so he was pursued by many girls in his life.

But compared to his present appearance, there is still a big gap.

Sometimes, when he stared at his reflection for a bit too long, he'd wonder if he truly was Hawk's biological son.

Just as Moses was sighing, a voice sounded in his head without warning—

"Because of your exceptional looks, Perception is very satisfied. Your Nen Exorcist count +1."

"???"

Moses was stunned.
