Chapter 6

Aunt May, I'm home! - I shouted, stepping into the flat to alert her.

- Peter, I'm in the kitchen. - Her voice rang out and I went to her.

Aunt May was sitting at the table, drinking tea while looking at something on her phone. When she heard my footsteps, she took her eyes off the phone and looked at me.

- Well, how was the sleepover at a friend's house? - she grinned.

- Well, not bad. We ordered pizza and watched a film. - I lied to her.

- Hmm? - She gave me a serious look, then stood up and walked over to me.

- Peter, is it just me or have you changed a bit? - She asked the question after giving me a good look.

In fact, my physical features had indeed changed. My height is a couple of centimetres taller, all the skin problems of teenagers are gone, and my skin is smoother. On top of that, my muscles had rearranged themselves a bit, so now I could boast a perfectly balanced and strong body. Of course, it wouldn't be particularly noticeable at a glance, such as to my acquaintances. But Aunt May... she's been raising me since childhood, and sees me every day, so even this change didn't go unnoticed by her, though I hoped this situation wouldn't happen.

- Hmm, changed? What do you mean Aunt May? - I grinned without showing any appearance.

- Mm, I don't know how to say it, it's like you've become more beautiful somehow.

- Hehehe, Aunt May. Did you miss me so much in one day that I look even better in your eyes? - I grinned, and then walked past her.

- If you need me, I'm in my room! - At the end of saying those words, I started walking towards my room.

- Did you use protection? - She shouted back, which made me want to bang my head against the wall.

Although some literature says that people change after they have intercourse, but not so drastically that Aunt May would think along those lines. - I grinned wryly, then disappeared into my room.

All weekend I had been testing my physical abilities. Every morning I dressed in sports clothes and went to an abandoned warehouse with wagons, where I learnt all my abilities. Well, Aunt May took it as if I'd started watching myself for a girl. As if I hadn't done it before.

In addition to that, I also started making a costume for myself. Unlike Gwen's costume, which was mostly white and pink, mine was almost entirely navy blue. The only other shade was a ruby coloured spider along with the claws that stuck out of my arms.

The suit itself was made up of Kevlar, so it was incredibly strong and durable. And for all the materials to make it, I spent almost all the money I had left. But the finished result was worth it.

Looking at it, I was incredibly eager to try it out. But unlike Gwen, I didn't want to fight the usual pickpockets and other rabble, because they were in a different league from me.

But fate was favourable to me, although it depends on how you look at it. With the school day just one day away, I was lying on my bed watching the news when I came across a live news report. Opening the video, I saw the Lizard climbing the Empire State Building with some equipment. And somewhere not far away, our spider was visible.

Without a moment's thought, I put on my suit, and then putting my spare clothes in my rucksack, I ran out of the house.

I ran at an incredible speed, almost twice as fast as cars, until I was in an area of high-rises and skyscrapers. Letting out a web, I caught it on a building, and pulling myself up I flew like Tarzan on a vine.

My speed was getting faster and faster by the second, and because I was on top of the building, I could just fly over most of the buildings, thus shortening the distance, and in just five minutes I was standing at the foot of the building where Gwen and Lizard were fighting on top of it.

Bending slightly and gathering strength in my legs, I pushed myself off the ground and shot into the air like a cannonball.

With one of those leaps I soared up to the fifteenth floor of a building with a hundred and two of them. In the next instant I let the web go upwards, and catching myself against the panes of glass began to pull it taut from my free fall. At the critical moment, when I was about to be thrown upwards, I made an extra effort with my hands. The floors flew before my eyes in a split second, and I was already in the middle of the building.

Regrouping, I repeated my actions two more times until I was high in the air above the building, where I could see Lizard and Gwen fighting. And from what I could tell, the Lizard was winning. It wasn't because Gwen was weaker. No, she was physically stronger than the Lizard, but she had very little combat experience, while the Lizard fought on animal instincts, hence the result of their battle.

Firing a web next to the Lizard, I reached for it, and with a burst of speed flew into the unprepared Lizard with two feet into his chest. The impact was so hard that it literally sealed him into the concrete, causing it to crack.

But he wasn't a weakling either, as he was able to get back on his feet right away, but he looked at me warily.

I shot a couple of spider webs in his direction for distraction. I didn't think it would stop him, because otherwise Gwen wouldn't be on the losing side.

As I'd surmised, the Lizard simply cut her open with his sharp claws. But that was just what I needed. Literally for an instant I disappeared from his view, and in the next instant I caught him by the paw, and with all my might I punched him in the jaw.

From the incredibly powerful blow with the force of several tens of tonnes, the Lizard's jaw was torn to pieces, and he flew far away... so far that he flew outside the roof and flew downwards.

Then I noticed Gwen running towards the edge of the roof, apparently to save him. Noah knew that even if he did, the chances of him regaining his former appearance would be minimal, and he would have to spend the rest of his life in prison. Or become a guinea pig altogether. So death was the best outcome for the Lizard.

Within a split second of coming to that conclusion, I shot a web in her direction, and yanked her in my direction.

- WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I WANTED TO SAVE HIM! -screamed Gwen as soon as she landed on her feet.

- I'm doing this for his own good. He's beyond help, so a painless death from a fall from a great height is the best thing for him.

- Don't decide for others what's best and what's not! - Gwen didn't calm down and tried to jump again, but I grabbed her arm with a steel grip.

Gwen tried to pull her arm out, but couldn't do it. Even through the mask, I could see the look of surprise on her face.

- You! Who are you!? And how did you get such power!? - The girl was surprised and calmed down a bit.

- Just like you, through a spider bite. - I grinned.

- But why are you stronger than me, and where's the spider?!?

- Hmm, it's simple. I'm stronger than you because I'm a man. Well, the spider died after the bite, and just in case, I burned it. - I lied to her, and then I let go of her hand, because the Lizard is definitely dead.....
