The Sailors

Patricia, Patrick, and Lilith settled in for a long journey on the high seas.

As they sailed off into the night, Patrick closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He was relieved to be out of harm's way, but he knew that his journey was far from over.

After having a meal, Patrick explained to his sister their next move:

- Do you remember the nobleman who wants to hire us for a hundred gold coins?

- He is living in Barcelona. If we keep sailing in this direction, we will reach that kingdom within a week.

- So we will meet him for the mission?

- We need to get as far as possible from our kingdom. I'm sure that the prince and his army will keep searching for us, besides It will be the best chance to earn such an important amount of money.

Lilith was listening to them without understanding what they were talking about.

- What nobleman and what mission are you talking about?

Patrick hesitated to tell her about their job, but Patricia didn't find a problem doing so. She became sure that the princess was a good person after putting herself in danger and sacrificing her title to help them while knowing all along that Patrick was a wizard:

- We are hunting beasts.

Patrick replied while lighting a cigarette:

- We are doing it for money. It is our only way to make enough money for all our family members.

I think you already know that we are poor.

Lilith was very surprised. She didn't expect them to do such a dangerous job.

Patrick noticed her worried face:

- As soon as we arrive at the port, you will be free to go anywhere you want.

Lilith glared at him with anger:

- If you are willing to abandon me, why did you ask me to jump in the first place?

Patrick sighed:

- What I and Patricia have been doing is very dangerous. I don't want you to tag along and get hurt because of us. I asked you to jump so you can have another chance to live the way you want.

Lilith felt frustrated. She thought that Patrick wanted her to join him, but she was wrong. It was only out of pity.

She tried to seem indifferent like usual:

- I know that I will be a burden on you. I will leave when I find a place to settle down.

Then she left.

Patricia snatched the cigarette from her brother's mouth while looking annoyed:

- Can't you be more gentle?

- I won't lie to her. That is the reality, and she must accept it. She can't travel with us forever. She should find a good place and live peacefully.

- What about Alexander?

- What about him?

- He said that he is an orphan and he doesn't know anyone except the crew he used to work with.

- When we arrive at the port, we will think about it. I'm tired... Goodnight.

The days passed, and Patrick's wound began to heal fast thanks to Lilith's care.

She kept on changing his bandages regularly, but she was much colder toward him.

She indeed liked him, but her dignity was above all. That was the most important thing she learned from her life in the palace. She shouldn't get attached or rely on anyone except herself, or she will get hurt.

On the other side, Patrick felt kind of pissed. He couldn't forget her beautiful smile the moment she jumped into the ship.

While taking care of his wound, He kept looking at her gloomy face, wondering about what she was thinking about until suddenly Lilith hit purposely his shoulder.

- Ouch, be careful. You hurt me.

Lilith seemed kind of enjoying it:

- Oh, I'm sorry. Are you okay?

- I'm fine...

As for Patricia, she became closer to Alexander.

Lilith and Patrick seemed hostile, so the ten years old boy was stuck to her all the time.

- Alex, why don't you remove your hair from your face? Isn't it annoying?

Alexander became uncomfortable:

- No, I'm completely fine.

- Come on, I want to see your whole face.

Alex put his hand on his face while looking sad:

Patricia realized that Alexander was hiding something. She approached him while smiling:

The little boy hesitated, but then he put down his hand. Patricia removed his hair carefully and then stopped for a moment when she saw a big black birthmark around his eye.

Alexander did not dare to look at her thinking that she would be disgusted by his look, as everyone else did, but surprisingly, she hugged him.

- Who says that you are a freak is a completely blind person. You are a very handsome boy.

Alexander felt so happy. Patricia was the first person to accept him.

After a few days, the ship finally reached its destination.

The twins, Lilith and Alexander, left the ship while feeling dirty and exhausted, especially the former princess.

She was looking at herself, non believing that she didn't take a bath for a whole week:

- I'm ready to give all my fortune for a warm bath.

- Let's go. There must be an inn near this place. We will clean ourselves and have some rest.

Patrick was uncomfortable with bringing the little boy along with them, but Patricia's glares made it clear that she would not abandon him just like that.

After walking for a bit, a lot of people were looking at them. Lilith and Patricia were wandering in the streets while wearing luxurious dresses. They caught everyone's eye, especially Lilith. The way she was walking and glaring at people made it clear that she was an important lady.

Patrick got annoyed. The last thing he wanted was to have more eyes on them.

" Damn it, if they know that she is a princess, it will be a matter of time before the imperial guards come. "

They walked fast until they finally found an inn nearby.

The moment they booked a room, Patrick held Lilith's hand and rushed inside.
