Humans have now abolished the term 'animals' and instead use 'beast' when they confirmed that they were getting to dangerous. A war between beasts and humans are close to approaching. There's no hero or villain. It's about survival. No matter who won. They would of survived in the end. The protagonist of this novel wants to survive in the world he lives in.
