Leone abruptly dashed for the shelter, and I shifted my gaze to the hapless assassin. In the distance, one could feel hundreds of emophones rapidly approaching.

- Well..." I whispered to myself. - Let the slaughter begin.

***

- There are hundreds of them... how did so many people go unnoticed for so long? - said Lubbock in shock.

- Calm down. - Akame coldly interrupted him. - Boss put me in charge during her absence... but since Kaneki is back, let him be in charge.

The Night Raid's eyes crossed over to me.

- Hmm..." I said thoughtfully. - Mein, grab your rifle and run as fast as you can to some balcony. Fire at them on the approach. When we get into close combat, you will support us with fire. Don't follow me, I'll run away anyway, but help the others as much as you can.

The girl nodded, and grabbed Calandor and ran out.

- Next. Shelly, you and Leone go to the east side of the shelter, and fight there. Akame and Lubbock go to the west side. I'll host in the centre.

That was a very sensible strategy. Shelly lacks the brute strength that Leone has, but the metamorph is just as lacking in speed and killing power. Akame, is very strong in close combat and will take out opponents while protecting Lubbock. And the guy himself will destroy enemies at medium range.

- The main thing is to survive. - I added with a smile.

***

I released all 8 tentacles with an anticipatory smile, unleashing a fire aura and summoning Bluthege. We need to destroy them as quickly as possible, then help the others afterwards.

The first wave of these pi*****s, and there's no other word to call them, I just dispelled them with Hellfire. Apparently, the doctor has transferred his tendencies to his brainchild. At least, half-naked, practically brainless people gave me that impression.

So, where's Stileish himself, by the way? Yeah... far away in the woods, with a few of his main mutants. We should get to him, too. He had some kind of serum that turned him into a super hulk, and with me in imminent danger, that would be a good thing.

Thinking about it, I only came to my senses when one of those mutants jumped on me. Or rather tried to. In the blink of an eye, the second wave was similarly dispelled, and I started to accelerate. After a minute, I broke through the mutants, while at the same time incinerating them all with a couple of fire bombs, thus fulfilling my mission. I'll kill the doctor and run to help the others.

I came out of acceleration, only to find myself in a clearing with the doctor and his mutant leaders.

- You... It's you!!! - screamed the doctor, pointing his finger at me.

- Yeah... It's me. - I smirked, releasing the kagune. I didn't even bother with illusions. None of them would survive anyway.

- Mistress Esdes... Her magnificent style... you infiltrated her trust in order to mutilate it!!!! - Pathetically inserted his hand on me this... this... this... this.

- Esdes? - I wondered. - Nah, as long as she doesn't touch the Night Raid, I'm not going to mess with her. I repent, I didn't fall for her by accident, but... it wasn't my influence that she fell in love with me. So I didn't use her or play her or anything like that. Now, die.

First to be killed was a huge pumped up man, in the role of a nasty pi****s. Next, a girl with huge ears. I felt a little sorry for her. After all, the mutation experiment must have been conducted against her will. Although... maybe not.

Meanwhile, some strange additive appeared in the air. After analysing it, I concluded that it was some kind of chemical weapon that caused partial, temporary paralysis. Within seconds, I had developed an antidote for it, as suddenly a huge blade emerged from my chest. Then another. And another. So, four blades went through me. However, that didn't stop the kagune from piercing the long-nosed Pinocchio.

Having healed the damage, I turned to Stiles. The doctor was trying to remove the cap from the vial, which was too tightly sealed and had a murky green liquid inside. Hmm... Is that the serum?

I abruptly snapped into acceleration, impaling Stileish on the kagune and picking up the vial myself. Hmm... Nah... I'm only going to use this stuff as a last resort. The effects are very unclear. On the other hand, those last resort cases may come very soon.

However, Stileish surprised me. After having his heart pierced through, he still managed to grow several shotgun shells from his hand, which fired shotgun blasts at point-blank range.

- What the hell are you? - hissed the doctor, drilling me with a look full of hatred.

- Heh... I'm a Tokyo kuroken. - I said, before blowing the doctor's head off with my second blade.

I exhaled irritably, enduring the pain of regeneration through the magical barrier. Pieces of iron, little by little, were flying out of the wounds, from their rapid regeneration, and I pondered, since when, had I become so pathetic. "I'm a Tokyo kuroken!". What kind of nonsense was that anyway?

And yet, a strange feeling never left me... An unpleasant feeling of either being followed or... I don't know. Well, a stingray flying through the sky is more interesting.

- Here comes the boss and the new guys. - grinning, I said to myself, while pulling out of my chest the blades that the mutant had put me on.

I don't remember the name of that biological teigu. I wasn't very impressed with him in canon. But Chelsea... Chelsea... she had headphones on all the time... TOTALLY!!!! Music... player... no more boredom while wandering around the city... I'll have to be sure to ask her about that.

With those thoughts in mind, I made it to Lubbock with Akame, who now these pi****s had gathered... oh well. The pack around my mates, instantly turned to ash, and the remaining ones, were torn apart by my kagune.

- Whew... and I thought we were done for. - said Lubbock, laughing.

- Eh, you... - I sighed - You can not leave for a minute... By the way, did you see the pathos appearance of Najenda?

- Mm-hmm. - Akame nodded. Apparently, they're getting over the paralysis.

I approached the pair and, after a little thought, still released the kagune in the form of blunt, wide blades, on which I placed Lubbock. Akame, on the other hand, I decided to carry in my arms.

And just like that, we moved towards the others.

***

We came to a clearing where the others were.

- Hello, boss! - I said with a fake smile.

Labbak and Akame, walked beside me. During the journey, the paralysis had passed, and they got off me. (Akame, rather reluctantly).

- Hello, Kaneki. - Najenda waved her hand. - I see you're back from the Capital. Any news?

- Nope. So far, Esdes is either looking for a kuroken or trying to get a date with me. Nothing new, though. Except that I came to warn you about the doctor, and he attacked the next night. - I waved him off, casting interested glances at the two cloaked figures. Why didn't you take off your hoods?

- I see." Najenda nodded, then turned her head to the new recruits. - Let me introduce our new team members, Chelsea and Susano. - At this point, both of them threw off their hoods, immediately giving me curious looks.

- And he's... like a human. - said the typical student. No, really! The image was almost entirely that of a student or a secretary. However, what made her out of the latter was the lollipop stick sticking out of the corner of her lips, as well as the wireless headphones. Hmmm... probably something like an enchanted guardian weapon.....

However, after five seconds of trying to figure out how the headphones worked without the magician's vision, I understood the meaning of the phrase. I gave Najenda a questioning look.

- At headquarters, you're considered a beast of many shapes and sizes. I've heard all sorts of versions there..." the former general explained.

- A beast... - I repeated thoughtfully. - Well, in principle, taking into account the average human's HSE, it is so.

- H.S.I.? What's that? - questioned Najenda. I looked at the others a little shocked, but they gave me the same look. Ahem, so there's no such concept invented here.....

- Hehehe... it's not that important. - I smirked.

- Somehow, I think you just verbally put down humanity as a species. - Akame said thoughtfully, shifting her questioning gaze to me, waiting for confirmation or denial of her argument.

- I'm a Ghoul. - I shrugged my shoulders, grinning. - I don't have many human stereotypes. Nice to meet you. - I nodded to my new partners. Susano immediately responded with a nod, but Chelsea did not return the greeting. Well, whatever. My priority was the headphones, not her attitude.

***

The next morning, our bags were packed, and the whole team was on the move. We flew on a huge, flying stingray towards what we called "the perfect place for shelter." It was 800 kilometres away from the capital, which was... quite inconvenient.

However, while I was lounging in the cold breeze, Chelsea came over to me, and for the past hour she had been phoning in curiosity. The other raiders were literally sticking to her with questions, but I... I didn't give a shit.

- You like it? - she started the conversation.

- Yeah..." I stretched out contentedly without opening my eyes.

- You're Kaneki, right? It's just that, at headquarters, everyone knows you as "Tokyo Kuroken." - Chelsea asked, clearly trying to get me to talk. Well, so be it.

- Kaneki Ken. - I introduced myself with a shake of my head. - Ghoul. I have a congenital teigu, as well as an acquired one. I can't eat normal food, only human flesh. - I phlegmatically described myself, while preparing to enjoy Chelsea's shock. However...had to bum it.

- Yes, I know that... who you are. And how's life? - she asked more cheerfully.

- Well," I opened my eyes and looked at Chelsea. - I'm surrounded by beautiful women almost constantly, fighting crazy people, and just killing someone almost every day.

- Oh, thank you for that flattering assessment..." she looked like she was about to finish the sentence, but I wasn't without a quip.

- Who said I was talking about you? - I asked as phlegmatically, closing my eyes again. Just then, from behind us came the wild laughter of Myne, clearly eavesdropping.

- Oh, yeah? - Chelsea was furious. Ahem, must have hit a nerve. Probably something to do with her past, especially with such an "exotic" teigue.

- Okay, I'm sorry, that was a bad joke. I'm sorry. - I immediately raised my hands, falling onto my back. A shadow of a smile crept across my face.

***

I looked round at the two-storey thatched-roof cottage with a poker face. Compared to that huge stone castle, it was... horrible. It's a lot more stealthy, which is something our last base lacked, but it could at least be... I don't know. Make it a little bigger? And the fire could easily spread.

Anyway, I only came here so I'd know where the base is. I have no belongings, no weapons, it's all in me.

- Kaneki, I take it you're going to the capital now? - Najenda asked.

After some thought, I decided to stay. I need a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, and Esdes in particular. She's nice, but... I can't act natural. I have to be like a theatre actor all the time, and it's exhausting.

- No, I think I should take a break from Esdes and the Capital. - I sighed, "I'll stay a couple of days.

It was late at night, so we left our bags at the entrance and went to bed. The beds had numbers, which meant that someone had prepared this place for us, which raised some questions. However, I did not pay much attention to it, because the last twenty-four hours were exhausting.

***

In the morning, I managed to go hunting with Akame. For, as she said, deer. For the first five minutes of our walk, I wondered why there were deer in the canyons, but then... the real reason became clear. Akame, who was pulling off my jacket while kissing me, explained the purpose of the hunt quite well. Meanwhile, I was hurriedly trying to burn a small squirrel that was following us from the bedroom of the shelter.

As a result, by lunchtime, Akame and I returned with nothing. And then... there followed a quite interesting conversation with Leone.

- You seem to have some followers. - the metamorph remarked cheerfully.

- М? - I asked, pulling back my hood and glancing at the sun with distaste. Though I didn't mind the heat, the baking sun still made me uncomfortable. No, I wasn't going to get sunstroke, but still.....

- I contacted one of the informants today... the kuroken made another attack last night. Several girls were found completely torn up in one of the alleys. Also, there was a notable lack of entrails.

- So... - I stretched out - well... among Ghouls, I'm very reckless, and my kin don't work so openly, so I must be a simple maniac. - I made up an excuse on the fly. That's what I thought, too. An ordinary maniac, whose atrocities the guards pinned on me.

- Maybe so... but I think if this continues, your image of a "knight" in the eyes of the city, instantly disintegrate. - Leone remarked.

- Knight? - I chuckled.

- By the way, yes. Because you only attacked the guards, the people already realised that you were on the side of the revolutionary army. However, after the deaths of ordinary townspeople.....

- I get it, I get it. Disarm the maniac. Tomorrow I will go to the capital, and so be it, with my instincts, will look for him. - I nodded sadly. It was a bummer to do it, but if it's so important... I'll do it at my leisure.

- Hehehe... and really, with your amorous pursuits in the capital..." Leone chuckled.

- Fuck you... - I waved her away, while thinking about how best to start hunting for this maniac. - In that case, I think we should go now. By nightfall, I'll have reached the capital, and then maybe I'll be able to catch this maniac with a live bait.

- Hela, Kaneki! - Leone snapped her fingers in my face. - We're now 800 kilometres from the capital, so there's no way you'll get there before tonight.

- I'll get there," I grinned. - I have a couple of ways.

Meanwhile, back at the palace.

The search for Kaneki, now in its third day, had come to nothing. The search for the kuroken was also unsuccessful. And along with that, there was another murder of a group of girls. All of these factors combined (but mostly the first one) made Esdes feel very sad.

- Seriu, what about Professor Stileish, by the way? Did you find him? - asked the blue-haired girl standing beside her, reporting the situation to her.

- 'Well... how should I put it...' Serew hesitated. - They didn't find him, but... lately, he was very afraid of being killed by a kuroken, though he didn't show it. So he invented a device that allowed him to... sort of... see what he saw the last minute before the signal from his side. Anyway, in a couple of hours, we'll be able to see what happened to him.

- That's how...", Esdes marvelled. - So he's probably dead?

Seriu didn't answer, dropping her eyes, on which small tears began to appear. Esdes sighed, then walked over to the girl and soothingly began to stroke her head.

- Don't worry... - the blue-haired girl said softly. - We will definitely take revenge and kill him. Whoever he is, especially if it's a kuroken.

Two hours later...

Esdes, along with her squad, froze in anticipation in front of the huge screen, waiting for Seriu to trigger Stilesh's artefact.

- It's done. - Seryu said, stepping away and standing next to Esdes.

And lo and behold, a picture appeared. The Doctor, along with his mutants, standing on a small rise. There is a night forest, and about a kilometre away, a castle in a cliff can be seen, with a Night Raid flag on it.

- So he found the Night Raid..." said Seriu with a grin already starting to appear.

And then... Kaneki appeared in front of Stileish, much to the Huntsmen's shock.

- You... It's you!!! - yelled the doctor, pointing his finger at Kaneki.

- Yeah... It's me. - smirked the white-haired man. And then... His left eye was flooded with blackness, and the iris of his pupil flashed red in the darkness. Instantly, eight blades made of something vaguely resembling flesh emerged from behind his back.

- Mistress Esdes... Her splendid style... you wormed your way into her confidence in order to mutilate him!!!! - screamed the doctor again.

- Esdes? - Kaneki was surprised. - Nah, as long as she doesn't touch the Night Raid, I'm not going to mess with her. I repent, I didn't fall for her by accident, but... it wasn't my influence that she fell in love with me. So I didn't use her or play her or anything like that. Now, die. - smirked bloody smirked the guy.

And then, the most shocking part began. Kaneki killed two of the mutants, but further, a little slowed down, after which, his chest was pierced by 4 blades, the last mutant Stilesh.

In Esdes' chest, something fearfully clenched, and the girl herself was a bit scared. However... in the next second, Kaneki killed the mutant without removing the blades from his chest, and pierced the doctor's chest with one of his blades, picking up the vial that Stilesh had been trying to open for the last 5 seconds.

Just then, several small but thick cannons grew on the arms of the seemingly already dead doctor, turning Kaneki's face into a chop. However, the guy continued to stand.

- What the hell are you? - Hissed the doctor.

- Heh... I'm a Tokyo kuroken. - Kaneki uttered.

The next moment, the image spun round. And when it stopped, the Yeageri saw the fallen, decapitated body of Steinesh.

Kaneki's face, recovering almost before his eyes. Pieces of metal, fell out of the wounds, which instantly closed, and the white-haired man himself, pulled blades out of his chest.

- Here comes the boss and the new guys. - Kaneki grinned. And the next moment, the picture faded.

There was silence in the room, broken only by the faint ticking of the clock that hung on the wall.

In the meantime, a white-haired boy galloped through the forests towards the capital with a smile, thinking how happy the Esdes would be when he was "accidentally" found.
