Chapter 13 — Hey darling, I love you

As he walked, a faint song reached his ears.

Leo was pleasantly surprised to hear the melodious voice of his adorable girlfriend and with a soft smile he walked more cautiously so as not to be noticed.

Mai is actually really tender but is kind of shy and she always shows her love in her own way so Leo can't hear her like this very often.

Standing at the entrance of the kitchen, Leo was staring at Mai with deep affection in his eyes... Mai was frying something that from the smell he could tell was bacon and there were also some plates of pancakes on the table next to cups of coffee but none of it was important…

"Won't you finish singing that song for me?" Lifting her face so he could see her bright blue-purple eyes, he asked her.

"Um" Mai nodded cutely, she was singing for him after all.

She closed her eyes and with a deep breath began to calm her pounding heart quickly, like the excellent actress she was.

Leo saw her eyes opened and noticed that she no longer had her previous embarrassed expression, and in its place was a confident and assured one...

Soon a black beam pierced through the window…

Along with the sound of the explosion came the sound of their bodies hitting the ground. Leo understood that it was an explosion but even though he had superhuman physical abilities he was still human and couldn't avoid what was about to happen.

He closed his eyes and only hoped that his body was capable of protecting the two precious lives in his arms.

Not a second passed before he felt the waves of the explosion trying to destroy and burn his body, not caring about the pain he continued to tense his muscles trying to form a meat shield with his body for Mai and Sayuki, who had already passed out.

Seconds later Leo was with the back of his body completely burned with different things embedded... he wasn't breathing but he was still alive and conscious...

The two girls in his arms were still alive, with burns and many cuts but they would live...

Leo was smiling slightly…he had already achieved his goal… wonder why his kitchen exploded? Try to think of the culprit? Leo didn't want to waste precious seconds on useless thoughts.

He was alive because his muscles were still tensed forcing his lungs and heart to stay in place, slowly starting to stop though.

If he tried to breathe even a little, he would surely die....

He wanted to put all of his attention on his women, he didn't have much time left after all.

Was he happy to have saved them?

Was he heartbroken at having to leave them behind?

He didn't know but the smile and tears on his face were there and it was fortunate that Mai and Sayuki were passed out, he didn't want them to see his shattered body nor did he want his last memories of them to be their desperate faces... at least now he could leave without traumatize them.

'… Please… forgive… me… Mai… I—' expelling the little liquid that remains in farewell tears, Leo thought his last words before closing his eyes.
