170 I'm Sure She Would Be Proud Of You

Ira didn't blame Sarabeth for what happened. She couldn't have possibly known about the bee venom allergy when she made that antidote. And it wasn't like she had given Demetria the knife either; she had stolen it while Sarabeth was unconscious.

He didn't blame Nico or Professor Lucien either. They had both been fooled by Professor Gallagher, who had rather convincingly preached about the end of the world.

Nico had tried to stop Demetria and, when she froze everything, he had tried to protect Miss Veronica and her baby with the rest of his friends. Ira would never forget that. They had tried. All of them had tried to save her.

Ira floated through the days leading up to the funeral in a daze of grief and misery. His friends all tried to cheer him up in different ways and none of them really worked but he could acknowledge that they were doing it because they cared. He wasn't alone in the world after all.
