Chapter 37

Title: Versatility...

As Sub sees this happening he immediately jumps back, the attacker smiles. Sub narrows his eyes at this, and the attacker concentrates all of his Nen on his finger and draws a strange rune-like symbol on the air. 

Pew!

The rune shoots out like a bullet and chases Sub, who immediately starts running to the side, away from the rune. The Rune doesn't come back, but Sub isn't relaxed at all as he charges at the man once again. 

He can't help but wonder what this man's ability is, but he doesn't have to wonder for long as Karla's bandages come from under the ground and grab on the man's ankles as he is about to run away. The man is surprised at this, but he can't even react as Sub is already is in front of him.

Sub can see the panicked look on the man's face, he doesn't even have time to react as Sub stabs the Ben's Knife at the top of the throat and it comes out of the top of his head. He can see blood come out of the man's nose as his eyes dull.

Fwish! 

He then pulls out the knife and looks at the eyes of the man's fleeting life. 

Bam!

The man falls on the ground and Sub frowns slightly. 'I shouldn't have jumped back, I could have killed the man right then and there. I was in a way too cautious.'

Karla comes forward and looks at the dead body and pulls back her bandages. 

"We are really good together." Says Karla as she looks at Sub, but he doesn't seem to even pay attention to what she said. This makes her feel a little indigent at this. 

Sub obviously understood what she was implicating by saying there. But to him, it doesn't matter at all. He is thinking about the battle and how he should try to improve himself. 

"We will need to work on our teamwork a little." Says Sub, this puts Karla down a little as she couldn't see what was wrong with it. But he shakes his head and says. "Our teamwork at the moment could be better. Because we will need to plan when we fight against multiple enemies."

Karla nods at that, she knows just how effective a 2v1 situation can be in a battle. The opponent could be three times stronger than them in raw power and they still would wipe the floor with them.

Another year passes and Sub takes into the new environment like a fish in the water. His growth becomes exponential, as some of the environments around Greed Island are specially built for learning Nen Techniques, from advanced to beginner Nen techniques. 

While Sub was doing amazing, Karla was different as she felt that she couldn't keep up with him. While she would be willing to train for hours in a day, she can't do it for over 16 hours a day as Sub trained even while he was sleeping. 

During this time, Karla understood something about Sub, he had a terrifying tenacity, she felt as if she made no progress in comparison to him. She can't understand how Sub can be so single-minded during his objective. The difference in mental age became very apparent, as while Karla wanted to train and get better too, she was more concentrated on the adventure. But with Sub's adult thinking he was able to easily handle the situation, the adventure wasn't even his 2nd concern…

He has 65 cards out of 100 by now. He did all of this within the year, even though he wasn't necessarily looking for the cards. Currently, they were both at the beach and Karls was trying to flirt with Sub, but she was failing at it horribly.

"Sub, look at me~" Says Karla with a strange tone in her voice, Sub turns to look at her and he has an unimpressed look in his eyes.

"Hm?" He then turns back and goes to the water to catch a shark from the water. The Nen around him turns into a coffin-like construct as he goes underwater. His Nen has the properties of rock, but since it's Nen, his defenses are stronger than simple rock. 

He creates a propeller at the bottom of the coffin-like construct and he then starts moving underwater like a submarine. He doesn't even necessarily have to hold his breath as the air trapped inside the construct will provide him enough oxygen for some time. 

As he goes underwater, he can feel the coldness of the water around him, even though he is not touching it. He smiles slightly at this, always being excited at this as he uses his Nen in newer ways. This is currently the most advanced technique that he knows, creating semi-constructs from his Nen requires almost all of the basic and advanced principles of Nen to be used at the same time. But he shows no sign of tiredness from this, only an excited smile on his face.

A couple of minutes later and he catches sight of a shark just wandering around the water, It looked just like your average white shark, but he had diamond-encrusted teeth. As soon as it sees Sub it immediately charges at him. 

Sub cancel his submarine technique and constructs a sword at the tip of his two fingers, an eternal brown sword appeared. As the shark got closer, Sub used IN on the sword to make it invisible.

Fwish!

The shark was cut in two before it even knew what happened to it. 

Poof!

The shark also then turns into a card. Sub smiles at this and creates propellers on his feet and manipulates them to spin, and he swims upward at top speeds.

SPLASH!

He is propelled out of the water like a dolphin, as he does so he cancels the fans at the bottom of his feet and creates wings out of his Nen and even though he can't seem to fly. He levitates towards the ground. 

As he lands on the ground he takes a pose and looks at Karla as lands. 

"Hero landing…" Says Sub with an uncomfortable smile on his face. "Seems to be terrible to the knees."

Karla giggles at that and comes to help him get up. 

"Thanks." Says Sub, the smile on his face not wavering a bit as he shows her his new card. This card is an S-rank due to the difficulty of getting it because unless one has a special ability for underwater it's almost impossible to get it. Of course, Sub is an exception to this due to his Hatsu being so versatile and he knows that he can still improve it. 

"Thirty-four more to go now and we will finish this game easily." Says Sub, the smile on his face. He plans to clear this game for the first time and get the three cards that he needs out of this game. 'These cards would help me exponentially when I enter the Dark Continent.'

"So where should we go next?" Asks Karla, curious about Sub's next move. 

"Well, now that we got the training that we needed. We will speed run the game… by stealing other player's cards." Sub smiles maliciously at this.

AUTHOR NOTE:

Karla trained hard too, but she is still only a child. I mean Gon and Killua spend two years in their adventures till Chimera Ant Arc and most of those times it was more adventure than training. Neither they nor Karla can 100% train all of the time in the most efficient manner. So even though the MC's talent is lower than the three, he outshines them all by his hard work and ingenuity.

P.S: The MC is crazy versatile with his Hatsu now. Showing his strength as a Transmuter.
