Chapter 7

Around the time when Marco engaged the shadow type demons, Rebecca had already left the infirmary. Right now, she was at the place closest to sky on the school grounds.

The Rooftop

Under the pale moonlight, Mio confronted a single girl. It was her classmate, the new transfer student--- Naruse Yuki

"So, what's up?" When Rebecca woke up in the nighttime infirmary, Marco was gone, as he had left his seat. The one that entered through the door of the infirmary a little bit later was not Marco, but Yuki.

"I need to talk to you." Following Yuki, who had told her so with a cold expression, Rebecca had come to the rooftop. To Rebecca's uttered question, Yuki answered quietly--- yet clearly.

"About?" Rebecca asked with a raised eyebrow. Upon that Yuki said.

"When are you going to replace the seal, if you don't it will invite unwanted attention."

Rebecca tilted her head. It was a cute behaviour like from a penguin. It made you inadvertently incline your body as well. But, more importantly,

"What are you talking about." On Rebecca's question, Yuki sighed.

It was obvious, she didn't know anything. Yuki couldn't believe that her guardian didn't tell Rebecca about her current circumstances. Explaining it to her now will be bother but decided to do anyways.

"Do you believe in the supernatural" Yuki suddenly asked.

"Huh" Rebecca was surprised by the sudden question. She was wondering why Yuki could suddenly ask her that.

"No." Rebecca stated shortly

"Well, supernatural beings like devils, dragons and gods exist."

Afterwards, Yuki began to explain how they came into existence, how the gods bestowed upon on humans to fight against the approaching demons and how the great war between demons and hunters came to a conclusion.

Rebecca was dumbfounded, she didn't believe anything Yuki and she thought she was delusional. But

"If what you're saying is true, how any of this concern me." Rebecca asked

"Let's just say that you possess power that many would kill to obtain." Yuki coldly replied to Rebecca's question.

"That doesn't make sense, I don't have that kind of power." Rebecca said shortly

"Well, your parents didn't tell you anything anything, maybe because you were too young to understand. But do you recall them giving you something and telling you never to take it off?"

Rebecca thought for a while and suddenly remembered the necklace her mother gave to her.

"It can't be, my necklace." Rebecca became agitated as she realized.

"That's right, they gave to you in order to conceal your power. But now the seal has lost its power. You need to get a new one before things get out of hand."

"That isn't possible, my mother is the one who gave it to me but." Rebecca paused, hesitating to continue before saying "She isn't around anymore." with a bitter expression.

Yuki understood what she meant.

"If that is the case, then." Before she could continue, the door to the rooftop suddenly opened. Marco came rushing out with a haunted look.

"Here after all."

He must had run at full speed. All out of breath, his forehead was covered in sweat.

and seeing Yuki standing with Rebecca, he frowned.

"What are you doing here." Marco said as he walked towards Yuki. As to stop him,

"She told her the truth." A playful voice came at them from a different direction. Marco looked. Apart from the rooftop they were on--- there was someone standing still.

A man wearing a white mark with black outline and a black tuxedo. Marco could feel an an ominous and overwhelming aura from him. It must be someone with considerable power.

"Not good."

Marco's expression changed into a stern one. It likely was the string-puller here, but it was unexpectedly strong. He didn't know his type yet, but it most likely had an A Rank power.

Rebecca was set as an S Rank, but only in consideration for the possibility that she awakened her power. currently, she's just a normal human. Yuki was a B+ Rank. If the opponent was an A Rank, then it might become a severe fight even with Marco's assistance, let alone Yuki by herself.

Currently it looked like he was standing there easy-going, but there was not a single opening for an attack.

Yuki must have comprehended the opponent's strength too, as she remained still like Marco, whereupon

"Really I didn't expect the Son of the War God to interfere in my plans. It's quite the surprise.

Hearing the masked man say it so happily, Marco narrowed his eyes.

"The attack before was your doing as well, huh…"

"Yes. I had my eyes on you for a while. I thought for sure you were a normal human, but it turned out you were an ability user-- Moreover, you are quite skilled. It appears you also took out the other guys earlier." On the masked man's words, Rebecca gulped next to Marco. she was surprised that he was attacked before.

"But to think her parents wouldn't tell or teach her anything, but I guess that is the reason for their downfall. Well, It makes my job easier." Hearing the masked man words, Rebecca quickly responded.

"What are you saying, my parents died in an accident."

"Oh, you're quite clueless, aren't you."

"You possess the power of demon god, chaos, so naturally you will become target of many dark organizations." The masked seeing her confused expression, continued

"You don't get it, do you? I'm telling you, your parents were murdered."

Shut up!"

When Mio widened her eyes in shock, Marco leaped towards the masked man at the same time. Materializing his magic sword, he swung it down on the white mask. But,

"Whoops, my hand slipped."

Marco was suddenly repelled by an invisible force before his sword could reach him. Thrown backwards, Marco twisted his body at once and somehow landed on his feet.

"It knew it, he's strong…!

The parameter for battle strength could roughly be divided into four classe: "Power", "Speed", "Technique" and "Magic". In short, like the stats in RPG or simulation games. An omnipotent type would be the ideal, but basically one would strengthen the class he's compatible with.

The power-types are able to deal large amounts of damage to their opponents and typically engage in standard melee combat with either physical or special powers.

The speed types are swift and agile, their speed can make them hard to hit by people from other classes; magic-types in particular are at a disadvantage against them due to the time it takes to cast their spells.

The technique types make use of various techniques rather than brute force, taking adventure of the weak points of opponents and their mistakes to efficiently bring them down.

The magic types make use of magic spells and special abilities. They have great output for their abilities, not only for their strength but just as much in their control and variety.

Although Marco's attack was just a spontaneous attack to shut his loose mouth, he put a bit of his strength into that attack. It would have sliced the likes of those "Blood wolves" and the "Shadows" that appeared in the streets and school store in two easily. That very attack was completely blocked and repelled.

Above all, it measured up to the strength of Marco, who was a Power-type.

"Marco." Marco nodded a "Yeah" to Yuki who came running over to him. Yuki most likely had made the same judgment.

"He's an A... No he's on the peak of A rank."

The strength of the masked man surpassed his expectations. But, he realized something else as well. He didn't comprehend the full theory behind it, but the defence just now was either a technique or magic type. It's likely that he is a magic type.

Although they outnumbered him, the masked man is ranked above them and has more power as well. Unlike Yuki's skill, Marco should be able to break the masked man barrier with a direct attack, but the masked man won't let him do so. And if they rushed him at once, Rebecca would be unprotected. In order words, they're in a stalemate.

"What do I do?" When Marco tried to somehow work out a tactic.

"H- Hey… Is it true what that guy just said?" From a bit apart, a doubtful voice called out to Marco. Marco remained silent and made a bitter expression.

"Why, why is this happening?" Rebecca mumbled with a agitated look.

"Isn't it obvious? It's happening because of your existence." The masked man said while smiling.

"The power of the Demon god sleeping within you- Even it isn't fully awakened, it's leaking strong power surges and attracts low class demons. If any of these demonic beasts were to harm the innocent, your existence would be the reason for it. Naturally, the Hunters would deem you harmful and change you from an observation target to a termination one."

The Hunters weren't fantasy heroes that protected everyone. Keeping their own existence secret, they only protected the world itself. For that sake sacrifices were necessary.

"To prevent that from happening, your parents used a seal to conceal your power and didn't tell you about it in order to protect you. Their only mistake is that they didn't prepare a back seal in case a situation like this occured.

"No way…" Mumbling dumbfounded, Rebecca just stood there. Then,

"If it shocks you this much, how about you hand over that 'Power' which is the cause for all this." The white mask declared. At the same time, a "Shadow" appeared behind Rebecca. It was already swinging down its large scythe. But, Mio didn't notice it. Instead,

"Kuh--!?" Marco reacted at once. With one leap, he tried to slash at the "Shadow", but

"Hehe--- Are you're going to erase her as well?" Although, the masked man called to him with a teasing voice. The result was grave.

The wound in his heart was exploited. The Magic sword vanished from the hand of the agitated Marco. But,

"UUOOOOOOOH!"

Even so, He clenched his teeth--- and kicked the floor for a forward leap.
