A new leaf
A guy in his late teens 19 years of age is sleeping peacefully laying on a wide grassland on top of the hill feeling the relaxing breeze.
while his enjoying the refreshing sensation, someone taps on his face with the stick.
The man slowly opens his eyes and yawn at the same time.
"what is it?" he slowly asks, exhibiting in its appearance that he's still half asleep.
The man with a cane forced a smile, annoyingly screamed"who the hell says that you could slack off while I'm gone Eneth!!" shouted right in front of the ear of his son.
Suprised eneth stood straight"AHhh! no father I'm not slacking off I'm just taking a break after a hard day of work" then his composure goes back to at ease.
His father left a sigh letting go of his anger because he knew that his son laziness has no cure"what am I gonna do to you my boy" looking on the farm below the hill" I ask you to harvest some crops, but here you are slacking off as usual".
"I was picking the crops but I got tired th" before his son could finish explaining"it doesn't matter. I already called your sister".
His 18 years old sister hirstein came flying while wearing a sorcerer's robe landing in front of his sibling.
hirstien is the opposite of his brother that's why she is the one earning the most and feeding their household.
in her face you could see that she is way past annoyed with his brother, she's just tolerating her sibling"i got tired of your antics brother I left my students just to do your work, for god sake when will you straighten up" then she cast a spell on her hand and came to a sharp wind that cuts all the crops and by weaving her arms the wind instantaneously put all the fruits on every basket.
hirstein suddenly kneeled because of exhaustion on using its magic.
their father gave her a hand to help him stand up"I'm just okay father, I need a second to catch my breath".
"what are you waiting for? carry all those baggage!!"
as his son obliged.
on the way home the three passed by on three adventurers.
one of them is a warrior with a big sword, the other is an archer then finally the large one is a tank carrying a large shield.
Eneth recognizes the three adventurers' identity.
The small fat one is Punzal who is the tank, the middle thin one is Breck the archer, and their leader Darwin The Warrior.
The three notice eneth staring and doesn't take them long to identify him. they smiled "hey take a look at that isn't that our classmate eneth" said punzal pointing his fingers at the person.
Both of his friends nod" looks like he hasn't changed a bit" added breck.
"after all those years he's still the same" mockingly said, Darwin.
The group of friends jokingly laugh.
Eneth avert his gaze by looking down, you could see on its posture that he's not proud of himself.
This little event made eneth remember his early years.
In truth, he was a hardworking child who dreamed of being an adventurer.
He knows that he hasn't had any magic, so he put in thrice the effort anyone could give.
He runs miles every day, forces himself to carry Heavy things daily.
But the reality is often disappointing all men are not created equally.
he was one of the 5% magicless in the world.
In a one school event where all parents have gathered to watch the duel of the students, eneth was chosen to fight darwin their top student.
The battle goes one-sided but eneth refuses to give up even if his body cant continues anymore.
He wanted his father's support but he only got his disappointment.
That battle almost took eneth life by then he realized whether you work hard or not the result would always be the same.
After a few minutes of walking the family reaches their town.
It was covered by a wall made of a gigantic pointy log of woods that could be adjusted when controlled by magic to fend off the intruders.
The watcher on the top of the fortress recognizes the three and lowered the wooden bridge.
Moving on there were greeted by the carriage without any horse on the front but instead, the wheel is still moving because of the coachman's magic.
"Looks like you got a fine amount of harvest today rodri" cheerfully greeted by a fat man with a white beard and mustache.
Eneth's father replied," Yeah in exchange for making my blood boils".
The bearded man laughs it off and looks at eneth" hang in their big boy"he said then share some of his harvest on the three.
Rodri smiled a little"that's ok ben, you shouldn't have".
"Don't worry about it, just go to the central square this evening then we're even, we still got a match to settle" it was from the board games with little wooden figures that can simulate a war, that you could only play if you have magic, called generals.
Both laugh it off and said their goodbyes.
Eneth's father has magic even though it is weak, only his son was one of the 3 magicless people in their town.
"will you come to the festival tonight brother?" ask by hirstein.
"nope" answered by eneth without any taught.
"that's why you don't have any friends" added hirstein.
That night eneth stays up in his room brooding in every experience on his past, quite irritated by the noise on the town square.
But he's taken aback when suddenly the noise had gone, he feels something weird.
Then he gets up and checks om what is going on.
Arriving at the town square he saw the royal knights in their capital kingdom Luzone, the main human settlement on liwa.
Three kingdoms live on the Liwa continent The luzone region, the visasy where fairy and elf lives, then the part where no humans try to enter, the mindao where supernatural beings like a vampire, werewolves reside.
"Before we start I like you to know that I'm Leader griva" He breathed heavily readying himself to shout.
"People of mahago we are here to inform all of you that we are grabbing a recruit from every house that will serve the king on the upcoming war, no one can refuse these orders!!" He then unwrapped the large scroll and posted it on the town square board.
"I am the assigned leader to formed the group of three towns, angan, astillo, and mahago"
Angan and astillo are towns near the mahago.
Then the crowd read what's written loudly.
It is stated on the scroll that the family of the recruited member will gain 5000 silvers, with that large amount you could buy a new house or it can feed a household for a thousand days, but those who don't want to join will be executed.
Some people wanted to make a protest but in the sight of the knight's blade they rather not.
Then the town chief came and gave the list of all the family houses' names.
"I'm calling one member from the family of hemiah"
one guy goes to the front somewhat confident.
Then the griva continue calling the family participants one by one.
Seeing all those who have joined are men.
Eneth knew that he need to step up for his family.
But he's having a second thought, he does not have the magic nor the skills to survive the battlefield.
So as always, he does what he does best to walk away.
Before turning his back he has glimpsed his father insisting to be the one to participate for the family.
"No!! father, you are too old to be allowed for this"hirstein stopped their father.
Her father argued "We can't rely on your brother in this situation, his a shame on our family"
Hearing those words struck on his heart, he has lost for words cant think anything, what he just heard is the truth that he's been avoiding his whole life.
He looks down and see himself, reflecting in a window, as a worthless good for nothing person.
"Is this how I'm going to waste my life? Running away when things got hard"while pitying himself.
"Am I not gonna live my life not knowing how much I'm capable?"
Without any choice eneth made up his mind, he grits his teeth.
He took a deep breath and clenched his fist.
Then at the same time,griva shouted their family name" House of Antoz, step up!!".
Without hesitation, he steps forward.
"Me eneth!" causing everyone from the vicinity to get surprised by his action.
Both his father and sister gave him a look stating are you sure painted with bewilderedness.
Eneth looks back hiding his hesitation.
In just a minute griva announced" To all the new members we will be leaving before dawn" after completing all of the house's participants.
Then the townspeople try to give a hesitant applaud to the recruits, it is painted on their face the unsurety of coming back alive.
All the men line up to proceed into the training camps.
