2 The council

After Gabriel's body crashed onto the floor, the final anchor connecting him to the world of the living snapped and his soul surrendered to the hand of death holding onto it.

Regaining his consciousness in the middle of a big room resembling an amphitheater, his curious gaze swept through the spacious room.

Gabriel stood in the center of the room and while his eyes wandered around, he marveled at the sight before him.

Dark marble floor, illuminated by ancient torches placed on the distant walls in a circle around him, looking up, the circular room seemed to only expand, the higher he guided his eyes along the rows of seats.

Dark walls made of the same material as the ground enclosed the room, creating an eerie atmosphere, the ancient runes chiseled into the marble glowing faintly only amplifieng his impression.

Rows upon rows of seats were occupied by dark silhouettes doning golden masks, conversing in a language he couldn't understand.

{why are there so many people in this room and what am I doing here}

One of the silhouettes at the bottom row of seats, listening to his thoughts enlightened him on his questions.

Doning a silver mask, setting it apart from the others present it began to speak in a deep voice „Gabriel Talokan, we are gathered today to judge your life, depending on the outcome you may exit this room happily or dejected, remember that it was your choices that led to the outcome. Your other question is answered easily, as the judges , we can exist at a lot of places at the same time, our job demands us to have this ability.

In this sacred court, you'll only talk when asked to do so, am I clear!?"

Answering the judges with a curt nod, Gabriel decided to do as he was told, knowing these entities held his fate in their hands.

Extending his clawed hand forward, the silver judge willed a a big silver scale to appear, it resembled the popular image of the scale Justitia holds.

Gabriel noted that the extended hand and arm, where enclosed by bandages with black mist seeping through the gaps.

The countless silhouettes with golden masks extended their hands forward aswell, bringing forth similar scales that were golden in color and several times tinier than the silver one.

Chains emerged from the golden scales connecting to the silver scale and forming a golden canopy resembling a spiderweb over Gabriel's head.

The right side of the silver scale started to glow and words appeared above it, trying to decipher them, Gabriel squinted his eyes, but gave up just a moment after.

{they look like the latin alphabet but I can't decipher them, I'll just have to wait for an explanation if I get one}

This time, the silver masked individual ignored his inner monologue, opting to converse with his fellow judges in an unknown language.

A golden judge, Gabriel preferred to refer to them as such, looked his way after scanning the silver scale intensely.

„Gabriel, do you remember the time you locked your English teacher into his office to prevent the English exam taking place?"

Without wavering Gabriel answered, he knew that there was no denying and no bargaining, a courtroom without a lawyer of his own was enough to point that out, „Yes I did, I remember it clearly because it was my eleventh year in that school and I did nothing like that again"

After his answer the silver judge addressed him again „as you let him out after two hours and had several accomplices, with more than half of your grade backing you, the sun is lessened, nonetheless it's a crime, judging you by the place that you lived in, as well as the time, it falls under the Criminal Code (StGB) Section 239 Deprivation of Liberty, which can be punished by a monetary punishment up till a jail sentence of five years.

The time he was locked in as well as the fact that you were sixteen and the other points we mentioned, would have given you only a fine of two thousand euros as well as some community hours."

A golden judge started talking after the silver one stopped, „while this misdemeanor would count as a minor sin of second degree, it's lessened to a minor sin of fifth degree by the fact that your teacher has already perished and told us personally, while I am currently speaking to him, that he forgives you and thinks you were a wonderful student overall, you should be thankful, since the lowest sin is only a minor sin of seventh degree, your little stunt is almost meaningless"

More and more things were brought up and the scale tipped slightly to the right side, a stone slab hovering over the scale counting all the things mentioned.

Through this entire process, Gabriel managed to accumulate 81256 minor sins of seventh degree, which all were little things like creasing a book a friend gave him or not watching TV with his dad when he asked him to, because he forgot and cheating in Pokémon go.

24596 minor sins of sixth degree, with most of them beeing something like swearing at his friends or swearing on his game, he played cod in it's prime time, who could blame him.

213 minor sins of fifth degree, which included talking bad behind peoples back in his Highschool days and gossiping in general.

3 minor sins of second degree, which were the three times he stole some money from his parents.

Lastly one major sin of 5th degree, which was the one time he and his friends destroyed the window of their local townhall.

Seeing the amount of sins, Gabriel was scared,{I think I'm done for, who knows creasing your friends books would count as a sin}

After all his sins were laid bare the silver judge spoke again „as you can see, you accumulated a lot of sins in the lower category of minor sins, but that's nothing to be frightened at, every sin a degree higher is worth numerous sins of a degree lower, explaining the whole process would be arduous, but to make you understand, since we are a fair council, your one major sin is worth more than all the minorities you have carried out"

The left side of the silver scale suddenly lit up and the whole process repeated itself, the outcome came as a relieve to Gabriel.

8.457.842.179 minor good deeds of seventh degree, which included not stepping on an ant when he saw it.

123.456.167 minor good deeds of sixth degree, where things like joking with his friends and improving their Mode were included

45.397 minor good deeds of fifth degree, an example was helping his friend find his glasses in his room.

[author note, I'ma skip the other minor and a lot of major ones to not bore you any more]

The upper category of major good deeds looked bare in comparison though, one of the golden masks expained to him that a major good deed of first degree was reserved for deeds which included saving millions of people and major deeds of second degree were reserved for things like curing cancer.

Nonetheless he managed to gain 7 major deeds of third degree, including the time he prevented his friends suicide and helped them regain their will to live, or the time he prevented a kid getting overrun by a motorcycle.

The good deed of helping his dog Luis and giving him a nice life was a major good of fourth degree, which irked him, since he valued Luis deeply and didn't think his life only amounted to this much.

The ordeal approaching its last stages, with the scale heavily tilted to the left side, Gabriel was addressed by the silver judge again.

„As you can clearly see, you will happily leave this room, the choices you made were good ones in your last life, as compensation you will get benefits that will match the sum of the left scale minus the weight of the right scale. We will present you with options that you can choose, free wishes are not allowed Gabriel"

Exhaling and releasing all the pent up stress in his body, Gabriel first took this opportunity to examine himself, the unfamiliar room, as well as the masked entities not allowing him to focus on himself.

{first of all, I'm dead, I hope Luis is living a good life, also how do I have a body rightnow, I left mine behind as I died, I mean I should have}

Looking down he notices that his hands were, weird, made out of wood and connected with springs, the rest of his body wasn't any different in that regard, he was a mannequin, was the realization that dawned upon him.

A big obelisk rose from the ground, on it, there were countless options, with different value, representing the value were points and the sum of points he had was displayed at the top of the black obelisk.

Deep in thought he started to scan his options {so I have 30567 points, I'd love to be reborn again and that option costs 20000, transmigration costs only 15000 points, I will choose that option. Interfering with my old world has varying costs and since Luis is an animal and his life wasn't valued that much as a good deed, even though we spent twenty years together I might pay around 10000, making sure my new body is male, aswell as having a good foundation and beeing born into better than average circumstances will probably cost me the rest.}

Having made his decision he wanted to tell the judges, but the silver one stopped him „we can hear your thoughts remember? As you said, your points are sufficient, the world you will be transmigrated to is jujutsu kaisen, while you didn't choose it yourself it is your best pick, we know how you think and a world like berserk would be too much, a world like animal crossing would be too boring for you and you know a lot about jjk."

„About your dog, state the things you want and we will grant it, wishing for another hundred years of life would cost you too much, since it would alter your worlds laws regarding the lifespan of dogs, the oldest dog to live died at 32, so we could make Luis live till 37 and not a day longer, meaning 12 years longer than he would live"

Thinking about it, Gabriel knew what he wanted for Luis „I want him to be adopted by a rich family that cherish him dearly, that already has a female dog that Luis would like, as well as extending his lifespan to 37"

Now that the process ended, the room shook and a series of tremors went through it, the rows of seats as well as the obelisks disappearing.

After Luis was left alone in the room, darkness enveloped him once more.
