Chapter 8: Raising Home

********

Hello there readers, there was one comment in the previous chapters which i found was pretty important for my future writing.

The comment mentioned that i was over detailing everything i wrote, like the extensive details of his surroundings, and the environment.

My question is, should i cut it down to the bear minimum, or keep it as is? Suggestions are welcome as always.

That's all, thanks for the inputs

*********

As i woke up in the clearing we had made the day before, i briefly recounted the work that needed to be done. Though this shelter was considered temporary, it was important that it would be usable for the foreseeable future.

'The nights are dark and full if terrors' Although i hadn't seen any terrors as of yet, i was fully convinced that they were out there. I had gained a small sense of safety with Ironhide by my side, but dragons weren't exactly safe nor invincible. It wasn't like that in the Barbaric Archipelago, and he sure as hell wouldn't be safe on Planetos.

One thing that had struck me as odd however, was the utter lack of human population in these mountains.

From the show I remember the vale being described as full of murderous mountain clans and the valemen. I had yet to run into either of them. 'Perhaps that was for the best'

I should have acted weary, something horrible could have happened. Something about the unnatural behavior of the clouds, had told me that their was more to the situation. They hadn't cleared up for the last few days. From dawn till dusk they had covered what seemed to be the bottom of the mountain, but i now knew better.

From my hike two days ago, i knew that this was only the top portion of the mountain and the wildlife here seemed completely undisturbed for some reason. They most definitely didn't know what humans were, otherwise they'd be running for the hills.

I had spent so much time observing the beautiful scenery that i had forgotten about the biggest differences between the modern world and this one. 'Lives are about as much worth as the gold they cost at the slave market.'

'Slavery, what a wretched practice' pushing those thoughts from mind, i focused back to what i had been doing earlier.

We had gathered all the necessary logs in a pile and now we just needed to complete the first step of the blueprint. From what it described, we would need to lay out the logs in the shape that the bottom of the cabin would be formed as.

I began by dragging the logs into the positions i desired one by one. After a few minutes of moving the logs around, i looked upon the square formation of the logs, with one space facing the woods left for the door.

I pulled out the blueprint and was once more prompted for the password. After typing it in, an odd series of actions began to occur. Stepping back a little from the logs, well out of the way, we observed as the logs in the pile began to float towards the formation made in the cleared area.

They rushed into formation eerily similar to that of old west log cabins, the rough logs stacked one upon the other. They continued to stack until they reached a height of 7 feet. After which they began to stack in the layout of the roof.

A few minutes passed by and we were left with a marvelous log cabin, sturdy from the look of it.

Unfortunately however it didn't seem that the cabin would be big enough for the both of us. The size of an adult gronckle was nothing to scoff at after all.

Making my way towards the door of the cabin. I gestured for Ironhide to wait for me outside.

Once i entered i was met with the bare necessities to make a comfortable living. It twas a single room cabin. To the back right of the cabin there looked to be a bed frame, mattress not included. A dining table accompanied by chairs filled the center of the room and a work bench existed along the left back of the room. There was also a tub(all praise) off to the side. All was made of wood.

Luckily the roof was slightly raised at the top, so i would be able to safely make a fire without fear of the smoke killing me in my sleep.

Having settled the shelter i returned outside to Ironhide. 'It was time to investigate the area more thoroughly, it would be one hell of a hike'

After flying to the bottom of the mountain, where the cloud met the stone, we arrived in a open area. Climbing down from Ironhide i spoke to him, "Were gonna have to continue from here on foot" He grunted in acknowledgment.

I knew that the chance of us being spotted by anyone in the vale below was slim considering the great height difference from the cliff to the ground, but I honestly didn't wanna risk it in this world full of nobles who act like young masters most of the time.

For the rest of the evening we hiked along the edge if the cliff, peering over ever so often to get a bit wiser on our situation. 'As some old dude once said, Knowledge is power' and right now we were severely lacking in knowledge.

From what we saw on our little journey, one thing was sure. We would be safe above the clouds. Everything finally started to come together. The lack of civilization, the weird actions of the fauna, it all made sense now.

The reason why it made sense was because if the weird circumstance of the mountain top. The entirety of the mountain tops circumference was a sheer cliff, which I personally deemed impossible to climb without modern climbing equipment.

I highly doubted that anyone in this backwards planet, had the equipment to climb 3 miles of vertical rock. However the most convincing testament to our safety however, i could only attribute as a final hurrah from my good pal, all divine and all knowing, god.

There wasn't a single animal between the cliff edge and the clouds a little distance away. I could however spot tracks and small pathways which had been unmistakably been created by deer and other fauna.

This told me that the clouds had only become impassable recently, perhaps even the day that i arrived, I couldn't accurately tell.

From our walks through the clouds i could tell that they weren't really a solid barrier, but more of a field of dissuasion. I was now sure that not just anyone with a strong enough will would be able to forge their way through. To me, it just seemed that the clouds liked me :).
