Finding Toothless

(3rd pov)

It was night in Berk, but it was unnaturally quiet. There was no sheep outside and the houses are unlit and quiet.

There was a bit of movement from one of the roofs of the houses. It was a fin-like tail, gleaming with a soft golden light as the moonlight reflected off the tail. This was Anaeth, waiting for the fighting to begin and to see if she could catch a glimpse of Toothless before he is shot down.

The wind was slowly picking up and making the trees rustle, as some dragons become visible. The Vikings hidden in the shadows ready their bows and some crossbow prototypes for the upcoming battle, Anaeth meanwhile switches to her thermal vision and looks around for the unique but memorable silhouette of Toothless, but she couldn't find him anywhere. She walks quietly atop roofs and went to the small clearing that Hiccup should come to with his invention.

The battle ensues when a Viking shoots an arrow at a dragon's eye, making it fall to the ground as it quickly bleeds out and dies. Multiple squads of Vikings rush out with a battle cry, encouraging the other Vikings to step out into the moonlight. Multiple rows of torch posts light up as a Viking shot a flaming arrow with a crossbow through them into a dragon's neck, followed by gurgles as the dragon suffocates on its blood. The Vikings and dragons fight each other for a long time until a low whistle is heard.

"Night Fury!" One Viking shouted, looking around.

"Get down!" The other shouted.

And a purple blast destroys a tower, leaving rubble behind. The whistles and blasts continue, as more towers are blown apart.

Hiccup looks out and only sees shadows, as the Night Fury keeps on attacking. He runs to the back of the workshop and grabs his mobile crossbow cart and runs outside, going towards an unattended catapult tower.

Hiccup waits for the Night Fury to show itself. "Come on, give me something to shoot at, give me something to shoot at." He looks around with squinted eyes, waiting impatiently.

*distant growls*

Hiccup looks around more attentively, finally spotting the Night Fury. The Night Fury dives down, charging up for another attack as the sound of a while rings out. *BOOM* the catapult on the tower is destroyed as it quickly flies past. Hiccup shoots on instinct and falls on his back, the bolas fly out and hit the Night Fury, making it fall to the forest that is behind Berk.

"Oh I hit it, yes I hit it! Did anybody see that?" Hiccup shouts out as a Monstrous Nightmare comes up from behind him, "Except you..."

Anaeth looks at Hiccup who is running away from the Nightmare that has been chasing him around. Stoick also spots him and lets go of the Stormfly he has been holding down, "Do not let them escape!" he shouts to the other Viking and runs up the mountain wall stairs.

The Nightmare keeps on chasing Hiccup around, wasting the breath that would run out soon. He hides behind a fire tower, the Nightmare shooting its breath onto the base of the tower, slowly burning the wood and melting the iron.

Hiccup looks around the tower to see where the Nightmare is, but it is right behind him. As it was going to bite Hiccup Stoick comes in and dropkicks the dragon, sending it flying away from Hiccup. The Nightmare tries to shoot out its breath but only a small amount comes, "You are all out." Stoick then punches the Nightmare and it flies away. He turns to the post that then falls on itself revealing Hiccup as the top tumbles down, freeing the group of Stormflys, "Sorry, dad." Hiccup apologizes to Stoick.

They look at the many dragons carrying sheep and fish out of the village, Hiccup looks back and forth from Stoick to the dragons. "Okay, but I hit a Night Fury." he is grabbed suddenly by Stoick, and he carries Hiccup over to a house and starts berating Hiccup.

"Make sure he gets home." Stoick turned to Gobber.

Hiccup and Gobber get home, talk a bit, and Hiccup opens the door and goes inside. But he goes out the backdoor and escapes to the forest, looking for the Night Fury.

(Anaeth pov)

I have been following Hiccup for the entirety of his search, sometimes playing with him and making some hints about the location of Toothless. He takes out his notebook, crosses off some other areas, and then becomes more frustrated. "Oh, the gods must hate me, I somehow managed to lose an entire dragon!" He walks toward the broken tree and slaps the branch that hits him in the face which finally makes him notice the broken part half of the tree leaning over to the left.

He looks to the left and sees the crater that Toothless' fall left behind. He carefully walks to the edge and spots Toothless, quickly lowering his head.

I jump on another tree that is close to Hiccup and Toothless as I continue observing Hiccup. He raises his head and looks over the edge and sees that Toothless has not moved, hastily taking out a knife he holds it with both hands. Sneaking up to Toothless he notices that he is unconscious, making it safe to stand up.

"Oh wow, I-I did it. Ohh this-this fixes everything! I have brought down this mighty beast!" he puts his foot on Toothless, but Toothless just pushes him off onto a rock behind him. Hiccup raises his knife and walks toward Toothless slowly, Toothless opens his eye suddenly and Hiccup stops. He starts breathing deeply to calm down and strengthen his heart to kill Toothless, but I know he is a soft boy.

"I kill you dragon, I'm gonna cut out your heart and take it to my father. I am a Viking. I'm a Viking!" Hiccup looks at Toothless as he continues to do some low growls. He raises his knife, closes his eyes, and breathes deeply. He opens his eyes, looks at Toothless, and closes them again. Toothless lowers his head and closes his eyes to wait for his death.

But Hiccup drops his hand on his head and lowers his knife-holding hand. Hiccup looks over Toothless' body which is being held together by the ropes. He steps away, muttering "I did this." to himself.

Toothless opens his eyes suddenly as Hiccup starts cutting the ropes, slowly freeing him.

As the last rope holding down Toothless is cut, he jumps on Hiccup and pins him onto the rock. Toothless breathes in, straightening his body, Hiccup closes his eyes to possibly wait for his death. But Toothless only roars at Hiccup's face and flies away into the forest.
