15 Chapter 15: The Fight

At exactly nine o'clock, Professor Snape, dressed in a black robe, appeared at the classroom door on time.

He stepped in, the wind blowing at his feet and the hem of his robe following behind him.

Arthur suspected that the professor was wearing the same robe he had worn when he visited his home last time. Or perhaps, all his clothes looked the same.

Professor Snape walked past the students in a cold way, without saying a word, and went straight to the platform, his eyes watching the students from all three houses.

He paused for three seconds on Arthur and five seconds on Harry.

Professor Snape did not speak, he opened the attendance register and began calling out names. His voice was not magnetic but rather deep and with a hint of coldness. He read the names slowly and with a sarcastic tone.

Finally, he called out Arthur's name.

Without saying anything, he stared at Arthur for a few seconds. Arthur did not avoid his gaze and looked directly at Professor Snape. However, there was a hint of apology in his eyes.

When Professor Snape had originally guided him as a new student, he had clearly thought Arthur would be sorted into Slytherin, but he had not expected Arthur to be so rebellious.

Arthur felt a little embarrassed about this.

After all, he hated the environment of Slytherin, not the head of the house, Professor Snape.

Perhaps he had understood the message given by Arthur's gaze. Snape didn't say anything and continued with the roll call.

Then he called Harry's name. Again, he paused.

"Oh, yes," he muttered softly, "Harry Potter, our new...celebrity."

"Pfft"

Arthur turned his head, and Draco Malfoy and his two friends covered their mouths and laughed.

When Arthur looked over, Malfoy glared at him. Arthur ignored him and let Harry have a good time fighting with him. He couldn't be bothered to deal with the little brat.

Harry suddenly felt like he was being targeted, making him uncomfortable, but he had no idea this was just the beginning. Things were going to get worse.

Professor Snape ignored the laugh in the classroom and addressed all the young wizards slowly and purposely, saying, "You are here to learn strict science and exacting craftsmanship of potion-making. Because there is no foolish wand-waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic."

"As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion-making. However, for those select few who possess the predisposition, i can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare their senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper in death."

A highly convincing speech came out of Snape's mouth. Before everyone could fully digest it, he suddenly spoke again.

"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you felt confident enough not to pay attention." As Professor Snape said that, he glanced at Harry and then asked.

"Potter, Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

Harry looked completely lost.

Harry didn't answer, just stared at Snape in confusion. Hermione, not far away, had her hand raised high, but Snape ignored her.

Arthur appreciated the scene. This marked the beginning of their love-hate relationship, and from then on, Professor Snape and Harry began their fight.

When Arthur heard these three questions, he thought of a genius person he had read in a past life.

Severus Snape's three questions had a deeper meaning.

The most obvious one was that the ingredient used to make the potion, asphodel, had a Latin meaning of 'my regrets follow you to the grave.'

Arthur couldn't imagine what emotions Professor Snape was feeling as he looked at Harry's face and Lily's eyes.

(Harry looked a lot like his father, James Potter, but his eyes were exactly like his mother's).

'Was it hatred towards James Potter for bullying him in school? Or guilt for revealing info that led to Lily's death?'

As Arthur thought about this, he looked at Severus with a bit of pity and sympathy.

Professor Severus caught Arthur's gaze and didn't understand what he was thinking. His expression changed, but it made him feel uncomfortable.

It was as if Arthur was looking at a puppy with sympathy.

Professor Snape's gaze shifted, staring at Arthur coldly as he spoke.

"Mr. Gaunt, it's now your turn to answer these three questions."

Arthur was shortly stunned, realizing he had accidentally gotten himself involved. However, he quickly gathered his thoughts and began to answer.

"Mixing powdered asphodel root with juice from the wormwood will make a powerful sleeping potion known as the 'Draught of the Living Dead.' A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat, and it will save you from the most poisons. As for monkshood and wolfsbane, they are to the same plant, which is also known as the name aconite."

Arthur answered all three questions in one breath and then smiled at Professor Snape to satisfy him.

Professor Snape was still catching his breath, not only did this kid answer the questions, but he also dared to provoke him.

Without hesitation, Professor Snape continued to ask.

"If I want to make a bottle of Vitamix Potion, how should I deal with a fig?"

"Peel it."

"What potion can be made using moonstone?"

"The Draught of Peace, but it needs to be crushed into a powder."

"What is the biggest difference between the Draught of Living Death and the Amortentia?"

"The Amortentia has a strong hallucinogenic effect. Perhaps you should compare it with a Love Potion."

The other young wizards in the audience opened their mouths wide, watching the back-and-forth between the two. Everyone's scalp was tingling, and they were all in the same state as Harry.

Professor Snape took a deep breath and stopped questioning. He sneered and said, "As expected of the blood of the Gaunt Family, these are not things you should learn now."

Arthur was very speechless. 'If it's not something I should be learning now, then why did you ask me?'

Professor Snape then turned to spray his venom at Harry. "Did you hear that, Potter? It seems not every first-year student is as stupid and ignorant as you are... Look at the other young wizards from other families..."

"Professor, I..." Harry was angry and ready to argue, but Professor Snape didn't give him a chance.

"Gryffindor loses one point because of your stupidity!"

Then Professor Snape turned to Arthur. "Ravenclaw, one point added."

"Next time, remember to add yes, Professor, when answering questions. Due to your rudeness, Ravenclaw will deduct two points!"

Arthur did not speak. He knew that saying anything now would only give Professor Snape a chance to deduct points from his house.

The other young wizards in the audience dared not even breathe.

Professor Snape did not spare them either, "Why do you keep staring at me? What did I just say? Take notes."

He added, "You are the worst class I have ever taught."
