14 14. Shoebill

McGonagall described the events of that day in great detail, focusing on the part about selecting the wand.

Dumbledore gradually formed a general impression of the young wizard named Wayne Lawrence.

Both of Wayne's parents have passed away, but he was born into a noble family. He also has a high-ranking Muggle uncle. Wayne didn't follow the rules and even exchanged gold for Galleons at Gringotts. Most importantly, his talent is visibly apparent.

When Wayne came into contact with the wand that suited him best, he instinctively cast the Patronus Charm. Even with Dumbledore's vast knowledge and experience, he had never heard of anything like this before.

"It looks like we are about to have a talented student and future famous alumnus," Dumbledore said, his snow-white beard moving twice. McGonagall recalled the questions Wayne asked her at the Leaky Cauldron with some concern.

"The Weasley twins are enough of a headache," she said. Dumbledore didn't seem to mind.

"Students should be lively," he replied. Whenever he saw energetic students, he was always gratified. These little wizards were his most precious treasure. After a few more words, Professor McGonagall left the principal's office. Dumbledore put the matter of Wayne behind him and focused on the many problems he had to think about.

The Boy Who Lived was about to arrive at Hogwarts, and Voldemort, who had been dormant for ten years, was also reappearing and eyeing the Philosopher's Stone. He specifically borrowed the stone from Nicolas Flamel and intentionally let the news out. It was a bait. Not only could it be used to test Harry, but also to attract Voldemort's attention and observe his condition. More preparations needed to be made to be sure.

Sighing, Dumbledore took out a copy of the Daily Prophet, which had the headline about the recent theft at Gringotts.

Wayne lay comfortably on the sofa, picked up his wand from the table, and chanted a spell. A cup filled with black tea flew steadily from the kitchen and landed in his hand. Not a drop was spilled throughout the process.

After finishing the tea, Wayne put down the wand and tapped the teacup twice. The water flowed and refilled the teacup. Wayne hadn't created the tea out of thin air but used a charging spell to summon it from the teapot in the kitchen. Silent spells and wandless spells are considered beginner spells, but they can only be used for some simple spells.

The Continuation Spell is a very simple magic. It can be cast without a wand and without reciting the spell.

However, the Flying Curse is much more difficult. It can only be learned in the fifth grade. Wayne is currently unable to cast spells without a wand.

Wayne's magical abilities exceed those of first-year students and most young wizards at Hogwarts.

As you learn more about magic, you can truly appreciate its depth.

The magic in the world of Harry Potter is very idealistic and can be seen as the power of imagination, making wishes come true.

A wizard's level does not depend on the number of spells they have mastered, but rather on their understanding of magic and knowledge of their soul.

At least for now, Wayne feels similar to Hermione in the original book. He knows many spells but lacks strength and skill.

"Forget it, why am I pushing myself so hard?" Wayne laughed, realizing his impatience to master all his talents immediately.

In reality, he is not even a first-year student. He is just a preliminary little wizard.

After finishing his cup of black tea, Wayne stood up and went to the kitchen to prepare a simple dinner.

The household servants and chefs have been reassigned, so Wayne now has to prepare all his meals by himself.

Today is the tenth day since he got the pet egg. He believes it will hatch soon.

Instead of finishing his meal in the dining room, Wayne takes the plate back to his bedroom to keep watch, so his newborn sees the newborn first.

Oops, I meant his dad.

After he finishes eating, the little creature still shows no sign of coming out.

Wayne decides to stay and sits in front of his desk, lost in thought about which college would be the best choice for him.

Slytherin is definitely out of the question. Wayne wouldn't go there even if the Sorting Hat suggested it.

Being a Muggle-born in Slytherin would only attract hatred. If he wanted an easier time, he'd have to defeat all the little snakes like Voldemort did in the past.

His points would skyrocket, but it would be too troublesome.

It would also make him a target for Dumbles.

Gryffindor isn't a good choice either.

Being too close to Harry would mean living under Dumble's constant surveillance, which is very restrictive. Secondly, Wayne himself has no interest in Gryffindor. While it may sound appealing to be a part of a courageous and adventurous group, Gryffindors are a rowdy and impulsive bunch who strongly reject those who don't fit in.

Similar to Hermione in the beginning.

We were all happily mischievous and attention-seeking.

Just you studying so hard, what does that mean?

Furthermore, Gryffindors places a great emphasis on collective honor. Even if Harry were to deduct points for their house, he would face criticism and cold treatment.

On one hand, they are the most mischievous group in the school, but on the other hand, they are also the most eager for collective honors, such as winning the House Cup.

What a contradiction.

Wayne didn't want to find faults.

This leaves him with only two options: Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

Which is the better choice?

The sharp sound of the eggshell cracking caught Wayne's attention, bringing him back to reality. He quickly looked up.

Gently retrieving the Pokémon egg and placing it on a soft velvet cushion, Wayne's eyes were filled with anticipation.

Of course, what he truly desires are adorable Pokémon like Gardevoir, Fairy Eevee, or Melueta.

However, he doesn't dislike Rayquaza and Ice Dragon Kyurem either.

The upper part of the eggshell completely separated, revealing the little creature inside.

Wayne peeked his head out and his eyes widened.

"Is this... a shoebill?"

"Chirp!"
