Chapter 97 : Magical Genes
Orion had to say that extracting memories is a hard job, and he is using magic to do it, he can only wonder about those normal people who had to do this job day and day out.
But maybe they don't have to open up the mind of a magical creature like Vampire and go searching for a specific memory. It was not a good experience.
After taking care of the vampire and removing all the tracks of the fights with the vampire left behind. He put a barrier around the Leaky Cauldron and took the vampire to his room to extract memories.
It took him an hour or so to find the right memory he was looking for and disappointedly even that information was not enough. He did see some high-class vampire targeting him over what happened last year but that it, he doesn't know why exactly that particular vampire was so important to this high-class vampire noble.
He couldn't find how he was able to do magic and any of it.
"Sigh, Just absorb the Fu*ker and get on with it already. My mind is killing me." Orion muttered to himself after the headache hit him like a truck. Spending so much time inside a blood-sucking beast is never a good idea. He saw things which he can only rate as NC17 and worst by movie standards.
So he put his hand on the unconscious vampire and started to absorb all of his magic. But something was different this time.

[Well I suspected this much] Merlin who didn't say anything up until now finally opened his mind.
"Suspected what ?"
[You didn't get as much magic as you were expecting, did you ?] Merlin asked with a knowing smile.
"No, I'm too a little confused, I swear that this vampire has more mana inside him than what I got," Orion replied with confusion on his face.
[Yes, although I am not 100 percent sure I believe that this technique of yours is effective only the first time you are drawing magic from a particular magical creature. That first time you get all the magic of that magical race and even some of their good grades. But you can't mindlessly absorb that particular kind of race all the time. The gains you get in the second time, third time or even after that will be not that much.]
"And why you think that is the case ?" Orion asked getting, now getting a little worried about his future growth if his only source of improvement got crippled.
[I believe so because of just how much you improve every time you absorb a magical creature. Its not natural, I have seen something similar before like your technique although a lot more sinister and dark and not even 10 of the efficiency of your technique.
You have absorbed just magic before but the improvement was nowhere close to what you get from absorbing from a magical creature. This and the fact that your technique only takes the advantageous trade of the beasts you absorb still now.
I can only come to the conclusion that every time you absorb magic from a creature, its not just the magical power that you are getting or some trade from that magical beast but this technique of yours is also changes your genetics and magical signature each time you do so.] Merlin said with a little excitement as if what he was thinking was true then Orion's magical gene was getting more and more robust and complete.
"Hmm I get it but why you act like this is a good thing. This is a bad restriction of my technique which we figured out, didn't we ?"
[No no, idiot you dont understand. In fact although from a pure magical power standpoint, you will surely have problems in the future to increase your magic. Making even someone like you waits to naturally increase the magical power with age but that is a small price to pay for an advanced magical gene.
The more these genes improve the more capable magician you can become.] Merlin again said with excitement.
"Now what do you mean by a magical gene ?" Orion asked with more confusion.
[Don't worry about it, just consider it as having a good Talent. Magical Gene is also a really big reason why some wizards or witches are inherently better than others. Nowadays it's not that much the case but in my time when magical purity was just a problem started to appear. Magicals where more worried about magical genes.
This particular aspect defines the natural heights of a person. For example, consider Dumbledore with other two dark wizards. Light magic is inherently weak and takes time to cultivate to a higher level. But the old man was able to match and even beat the two dark lords who didn't only use dark magic but also enhanced themselves through multiple rituals.
If magical purity defines the powers of wizards then the Magical gene defines the height he can achieve.
Here is a simple ex. tell me, do you think that anyone would be a match to Dumbledore if he too dwelled in dark magic ?] Merlin explained and lastly asked this question.
Orion at first didn't think too much about it but later he actually visualised Dumbledore using dark magic and couldn't help but gulp.
[Yes, Dumbledore would have long entered into the realm of Level 5 Grand Master, the same entities as the likes of the founders. Add elder wand on top of that and we are looking at a level 6 wizard]
'Man, the old man is already a menace without any add-ons. He will be nothing less than a god by that time. I remember Merlin telling me he himself is a level 7 wizard and that too after a long time, like 1000 years. No wonder people here call him the second coming of Merlin.' Orion cursed inside his head, he finally started to believe that he was getting stronger and Merlin then suddenly put the reality in front of him. Damn old man.
[Okay okay, don't worry too much about it, and just remember this simple explanation. Magical purity is how much muscle you have and gene is how much talent you have, got it]
"yeah,"
"Well, that explanation of yours just intensified my headache. I will be resting for a little while and then make my move at Gringotts. I just hope that those vampire by then are gone," Orion sigh.
[I doubt it, they not only got signs of you here but they also suddenly lost a member. They are not gonna go anytime soon. I advice to stay hidden.] Merlin said and Orion just nodded in agreement.

After 3 hours of sleep, Orion finally woke up. Feeling refreshed he saw outside to notice that it was already evening.
"I should be moving now,"
[Any idea who you are going to get inside and find the cup ?] Merlin was now interested in knowing.
"Well getting inside is not that hard. I want to make my own vault in the place anyway. They themselves will take me underground if I want to see my vault by myself.
There I can just play mind trick on the goblin and find the Lestrange vault of myself." Orion said.
[And how you are going to do that ?]
We know that the Lestrange vault is in a highly secured place. Extremely near where the dragon is kept. I just need to first find that dragon.

Did you understand that I am talking here about Magical Purity aka how much magic one has and Magical gene meaning how much talented a person is in using certain type of magic.
So for example absorbing a vampire will make his dark magic or blood magic stronger while absorbing a unicorn make his white magic stronger. Got it.
