178 Chapter 178 : Growing Concerns
As Snape approached Dumbledore with a sense of urgency, his expression grave and his voice tinged with concern. This was right after his potion class with Orion where is was forced to give that rascal 100 points in the end.
He had come to warn the headmaster of a danger of that boy, although even now he didn't sense a hint of dark magic from the boy, if anything it was extremely pure but just like all of them who use dark magic are not evil, all the wizards who use white magic are not saints.
This was a very important matter, he had no idea why Dumbledore was even letting Nick Iron stay in the school even after the boy obviously used dark magic, but this time he would not back down. There is already a troublesome student in the castle and he won't tolerate another. Something has to be done about Orion whose powers have grown beyond control.
With a heavy heart, Snape recounted his encounter with Orion, describing how the boy had turned the tables on him with a skilful display of Legilimency. In a matter of moments, Orion had delved into Snape's mind, extracting every memory with ruthless efficiency.
To the point that he himself only learned Orion did that when the boy himself admitted, that is one scary ability he got there. Even after having Legilimency if there minds are not secure, hell they can't even say whether someone is sneaking around in there mind then its completely broken ability.
As Dumbledore listened intently, his brow furrowed with concern. He had long suspected that Orion possessed a gift for Legilimency, but the extent of his power was far greater than he had anticipated. To be able to so effortlessly penetrate Snape's formidable Occlumency defences spoke volumes of Orion's skill and potential.
He wasn't actually surprised that Orion counter-attacked Snape, the boy was clear that he would take action if something like what happened in the hall happened again. Now Dumbledore felt like he should have explained this to Severus before.
But he himself was mostly expecting a mental shock as the boy displayed earlier in the hall with a huge amount of temper tantrums coming from him, not outright stealing Snape's memories and blackmailing him with it.
Hell, the boy even grasps the political side of things and that too with proficient accuracy. He really can't save Snape at this point with his sway in the ministry. If what Orion's claims are false then sure but they are real and right now Fudge is just desperate to solidify this position as the minister as soon as possible.
Just like the boy said, Fudge is desperate enough that he will really claim Snape is Darklord himself who was hiding under his nose all these years. And with the general IQ of the wizarding world, no one will be wiser.
Sigh. Snape really poke the hornet nest this time.
But it was not just Orion's mastery of Legilimency that troubled Dumbledore.
While Snape was lamenting about the evilness of that boy, Dumbledore didn't even bother to hear Snape.
Last year he clearly heard Newt saying that Qilin bowed to the boy. Nowadays many wizards and witches alike laugh at this age-old custom, mostly because this no longer happens as Qilin is almost extinct, but he himself knows that the ritual really holds significant important.
There are not many people in front of whom a Qilin will bow after all.
With the fact how Pure Orion's magic is, Dumbledore didn't still don't think that Orion is turning dark or has any bad intentions for that matter.
What he worried about here was Orion's growth.
How in Merlin's name the boy who lived almost all of his life in a forest alone, had no magical guardian to learn from and barely had enough magic comparable to a 5 or 6-year-old magic child, when he joined Hogwarts became what he is today.
His attainments in potions were visible from the day he came, there is also his high degree of physical power. Dumbledore doubts that he can lift more than a giant at this point.
His books and all that profound knowledge is providing the wizarding world with magic that he himself has never heard of.
Him being able to get stronger this fast, and although he shares a few of his secrets in his books to everyone's surprise they all actually work. Dumbledore doesn't believe that those are all the reasons why he got stronger this fast. Which is actually somewhat understanding and also reassuring.
His providing important information about magic and its usage beyond what the wizarding world already knows is a great achievement. No one will expect the boy to hold no secrets at all.
Even he Albus Dumbledore will be too greedy to share his secret to increase in his power with others. He doesn't think he would be sharing all the secrets if he was in Orion's situation.
And this is also somewhat reassuring to him. There are too many threats out there, too many people with big ambitions. The only thing stopping them from acting on these dark desires is their own lack of power, its better that Orion is keeping those secrets to himself.
Or that's what his mind says, his greedy side actually wanted those secrets for himself. Sigh its a constant struggle between light and darkness.
And now the same boy is capable of beating Severus in mind arts. Snape ranks among the best when it comes to Mind arts.
Maybe not the best like his potion's talent but definitely along the best. And Orion was able to infiltrate inside his mind without Snape knowing it.
As Dumbledore pondered Snape's warning, well more like acting, he knew that he could not ignore the gravity of the situation. Orion's unchecked formidable abilities posed a threat, maybe not directly as he believed that the boy wouldn't do anything evil Dumbledore's confidence in his assumption also get strengthen when even after having this much power Orion was using the power of his benefic, in fact Dumbledore was more worried that it will be his indirect action which will cost the wizarding world.
What if the boy gets targeted by the death eater, what if Tom targets him? With all those strange magical secrets inside Orion's mind through which he has gotten this strong. What if those fall in Tom's hand? This was serious.
Dumbledore was taking this issue seriously, just not the way Snape wanted him to that is.
Then there is also the fact that Dumb dumb dore don't know how strong actually is Orion. His unconventional magic is already hard to relate with anything he knows.
Hell during a fight against Orion, Dumbledore might look out for that boy's fist more than his spells.
And now that he can't sense the boy's magic, its really hard to determine his level. It was imperative that he be brought under control before it was too late.
'Maybe I should take him as a personal disciple. That sounds like the most effective way to keep an eye on the boy and make sure that he grows up with the right mindset.
But Dumbledore didn't bother to express these worries to Snape he only said this.
"I see Severus. Its good that you bring this issue to me. I will talk with the boy. I'll try to get those memories from him. But when it comes to blame, it lies with you. I told you not to use Legilimency against him.
And when it comes to his action. I don't disagree. You are after all have been very particial towards your own house till now." Dumbledore said with his usual grandfatherly tone.
Making a twitch appear in Snape's face.
Snape was about to say something but before that. Dumbledore spoke.
"You don't have to worry about that boy Severus. Leave him to me. Just don't bother with him anymore.
You only focus your attention on Nick,"
"What again this, why even bother keeping an eye on that boy? Just expel him from the school. The boy is clearly using black magic and..." Snape wanted to say more but Dumbledore interrupted him midway.
"I have my reason, Severus, for now, I can only say to you that the boy might have some kind of connection with the Death Eaters and some powerful dark families. There will be immense pressure on me and Hogwarts if I do anything." Dumbledore sighed and said with a helpless expression.
Snape at this was taken aback.
