105 Chapter 105 : A Hard Decision
"Alright then, tell me already what we need to help Astoria ?" Orion finally asked after coming back to his room with the help of RED.
He already knew that making a cure for her would be a hard nut to crack, and he had very little time on his hands, if he didn't act soon then Christmas would arrive before he could even start making a cure.
[Don't hurry, before tell you what we need to cure that girl, you first need to learn what we are dealing with here in the first place] Merlin said with a calm tone.
"Okay then start with that," Orion too took a deep breath and calmed down, Merlin was right without understanding the issue, he couldn't solve it.
[This so-called blood curse is more of a disease than a curse, It runs in the family as you already know. It's not actually the blood itself but the magic. You can say that the wizards and witches from the Greengrass family are born with a very strange condition.
This was by all means something which has been introduced by the inclusion of an outsider, otherwise the Greengrass family would have been extinct long ago. Or at least I believe that is the case.
Those who are born with this strange or dare I say faulty constitution can't handle magic well. It's like their body rejects magic on one side but at the same time it's also making magic like any other magician's body.]
"Hmm, so it's somewhat similar to Cancer but hereditary," Orion asked.
[Not entirely but for the time being you can consider that.] Merlin replied.
"That good and all, but even after knowing about her condition, I have no idea how to cure her. The simplest way is the make her a squib or something similar to a muggle, without magic this will not be a problem for her. But we both know that that is not the solution and even if it is, it's something we should think about when nothing else is working. Magic is the lifeblood of a witch and wizard after all," Orion replied, still thinking about a way to help Astoria.
[True and it's not like I don't have a way to help the little girl. Besides the option you said as the last resort, I have three options. And here comes the problem. All three of them are hard to do.] Merlin sigh.
"Say it, don't waste more time," Orion chided.
[Okay okay, but before that. You don't have to do this you know. I know I was the one who asked you to cure her but the time frame was already very narrow. And with her condition finally revealed. I believe that you should give up. It will just waste most of your time. And don't worry I will keep my word and teach you the magic you wanted] Merlin said with his logical thinking.
It was really not worth pursuing this matter for Orion, he was not gaining anything here.
But Orion didn't give a damn.
"You kidding me, there is no way I am leaving this job half-ass. Not to mention I gave my word to Daphne. What kind of wizard king would I be if I can't even stay on my word?
And...." Orion replied but lastly, he pondered over his words.
[And]
"And I want to help her.
She has lost most of her family. It will be cruel to let her see her only family member die like this," Orion said with a plain tone but his words were heavy.
[And you will do it even if this means losing most of your magic in the process] Merlin asked with a serious voice.
"Huh!
What do you mean," Orion asked with a look on his face, he had a suspicion that what Merlin was about to tell after this was something that he would not like.
[In almost every way, we will need a powerful source of pure magic. Something which only you have in the magical world, if we remove pure magical creatures as we can't use their magic when curing a witch. We need human magic.] Merlin said and Orion was stunned after listening to it.....
He fell into contemplation.
Now curing Astoria means losing most of his power, meaning he will be again that weak loser getting bullied by Malfoy....
Orion lowers his head, thinking hard. He clenches his fist, berating himself internally.
'What the hell, why does this have to be like this,' Orion thought while Merlin was observing him.
He has worked really hard to gain the power he has now. Saving Astoria could mean losing all that progress he has made till now.
'Fu*k'.

(10 minutes later)
"I'm ready," Orion said with firm determination in his eyes.
[Are you sure, this will make you weak like how it was back then] Merlin said with a hushed voice.
"I know, but I will do it. I will work hard again and get even stronger. But this way we can save Astoria's life.
It's totally worth it. After all what kind of wizard king I would be if I fear something like this." Orion almost shouted.
It was hard for him, he really worked really hard for the power, and he almost had a nervous breakdown when the decision was in his hands.
On one side was his morals and on the other side his dream and ambition.
Merlin raised his eyes, piercing Orion with his gaze, like looking right through him and watching his very soul.
[Let me tell you that it will be hard to get stronger this time around. Remember you can't absorb the same kind of creatures again and again. It might take you years to get what you have accomplished in just 1 and a half] Merlin said with a serious face and tone. Like hammering Orion with reality.
"I will be the best no matter what, that a pledge of a lifetime, so you better believe it when I say that I am cool with it. If something like this shakes me then I have no right to claim to reach the top," Orion replied straight face.
"And may I ask why you are willing to go so far for a girl you just know for a very short time, I believe that it's not because you like her. You are at least not that big of an idiot," Merlin asked.
"Hey, who are you calling an idiot, for your information, I am doing this not because I like Daphne or anything.
My intentions are clear. I want to help her out." Orion replied in an almost shouting-like manner but then calmed down.
"I saw the helplessness in her eyes back then. That Bastard Nick is using this girl's situation to manipulate her. She is cornered and doing everything to save her only last living family. Hell, I would have killed the queen if I had to if that meant saving my family, If I had one that is." Orion said with a sorrowful tone.
"I found myself hating life when I never even knew my family or never experienced what it was like to have one. I was miserable when I lost Red back then, and he is a dog.
Think what it would be like for her when she had everything and then she saw everyone she ever liked taken away from her one by one while she couldn't do anything.
Power is just a means to an end, this power doesn't mean I am strong. We only get really strong when we can protect what we cherish and when we can stand against danger to protect them, even after we are weak.
I...I didn't have any chance to experience family but... but you bet I will not let her experience the same," Orion said with a little moist eyes, a little bit of sorrow was on his voice but with firm resolve and unshakable determination.
Merlin didn't say anything but a small and pleasant smile was tugging on his lips.

And one more thing if any of you might asked, no after making her a squib, he can use his squib portion on her, being this a magical issue, Mc had to totally remove magic from her. Making her more like a Muggle than a squib.
