11 The Moment

After getting yelled at, Kate and Devlin laughed silently. Kate then put away her wand.

"Sadly, no more magic wars for us at home. It looks like there some leeway before you start training at Hogwarts. But for me, I can't do it anymore unless I'm seventeen or older or at Hogwarts."

Kate then explained her classes to Devlin both the theory of magic and her experiences. Devlin's theory wasn't far off from how Kate explained it. This satisfied him but also disappointed him as it didn't give him any hints how to progress. He truly has to wait until he gets a wand and understand the feel and verify things himself.

Devlin and Kate enjoyed the rest of the holiday in as any normal muggle family would. Devlin even put his magic practice on hold around Kate since she can't return the favor.

"School houses are interesting. There are some rivalries in there, more so than others, but it doesn't matter too much to me." Kate started chatting about her school life. "Magic is everywhere there! Like how the newspaper picture moves, the pictures talk to you, there's a giant that takes care of animals, and moving stairs that don't make any sense at all! It's totally another world!"

Kate and Devlin continued to chat and for the rest of the holiday, spent some quality family time together. Once the holidays were over, Devlin and the family escorted Kate back to platform 9 3/4 and saw her off back to school.

***

Time has passed and it is now July. Kate is home after completing her first year at Hogwarts enjoying her summer break and Devlin, who has turned 11 back at April 5, is now looking outside through the window staring at his Dad getting the mail. From what he can see, the mail came with some magazine spam and a number of envelopes. He couldn't tell if it was a Hogwarts letter or not. Ever since the school year ended, Devlin anticipated the letter from Hogwarts every day.

"Devlin...Kate...it's here." Peter shouted to the kids. Devlin rushed out of his room jumped the stairs and landed in front of his dad and grabbed the envelope. He quickly noticed the Hogwarts stamp on the envelope and smiled cheerfully as he held up the letter like a trophy.

Devlin looked at the letter with excitement. "My time has come!" Devlin said playfully out loud. It was his dream ever since he read the novels to be part of this world. He now lives in a world filled with magic. This is his now his new normal. Roughly over a year has passed since he woke up and reincarnated into this world. He doesn't know why, but as he stares at the letter again. He internally makes a declaration to do his best.

"Wierdo! Stop staring at it and open it up. Maybe it's a rejection letter." Kate teased. She was also holding onto a Hogwarts letter already opened. In view is her new list of books required for the second year.

Devlin stuck out his tongue at Kate. "Let me have my moment. I'm finally going to be a wizard." Devlin opened up the letter, and just like he thought as he read the letter out loud. "Dear Mr. Devlin Delwyn." Devlin clears his throat in a dramatic fashion. "We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witch..."

"Okay we get it! You can get into Hogwarts. You don't have to read it out loud you know." Kate cutting him off.

"My moment....." Devlin drops to his knees dramatically. This time he still is holding up the letter but now reading it internally. "I will frame this letter!" Devlin proclaims as his inner nerd comes out.

"Congratulations Dev. We shall we take a trip to Diagon Alley to get our things this weekend." Ester explained looking at a calendar planner hanging on the refrigerator door in the kitchen from a magnet and ignoring the playful antics of the siblings. "It looks like I don't have to work that day."

***

Saturday arrives, and the Delwyn family arrives at Diagon Alley. Since this isn't their first time, they start walking towards their intended destinations.

"Do you think we'll bump into the Weasleys again?" Devlin asked his parents.

"Not today dear, I told Molly we would be coming this weekend, but Arthur got held up into something. We plan to meet again when it's time to go to Hogwarts. They invited us for breakfast again at the Weasley Burrows." Ester explained

"Oh that's too bad. But I guess we'll see them later." Devlin wasn't too upset. Him and his family were so busy with their muggle lives they didn't have good timing to mingle with the Weasleys. It is the same for the Weasley family. While they kept in touch through Owls, they couldn't get their schedules aligned with all their kids' schedules.

"It's fine, we will see them on September first. We'll have breakfast and head to platform 9 3/4 together." Ester said.

Devlin is enjoying the environment of Diagon Alley. He watches as students prepare and get their things.

"Hey look! It's the Nimbus 2000!" Devlin hears a kid scream staring at the window of a shop.

Kate spoke up suddenly after hearing the kids. "Speaking of which dad, I've been wanting to ask, do you think you can get me a broomstick?"

"What's this about a broomstick? I've read you can use it for travel. But you might as well use floo powder. It's faster." Peter suggested already familiar with some parts of the wizarding world.

"No no! You see dad, in school there's this sport called Quidditch. It's kind of like rugby and football put together while flying on a broomstick. There are not much physical extra-curricular activities and during school, I'm not taking any ballet or gymnastic classes. I thought joining the house Quidditch team would be nice."

"I've seen something like that in the paper." Peter thought of it. "I guess it's fine but let's visit the store first. I want to ask about this game."

"Yay! Daddy, I love you!" Kate grabbed her dad and started to drag him towards a store with a sign hanging called "Quality Quidditch Supplies."

Devlin and his mother follow suit and enter the store. Devlin also looked around in excitement. While Quidditch didn't really interest him, he thought the gear looked cool.

Kate all of a sudden saw someone she recognized. "Ooh! Cho! How nice to see you here." Kate rushed over to a girl wearing a simple jacket with a blue badge on it. She was a pretty girl with shiny dark hair and freckled nose.

"Hey Kate, what a coincidence." Cho smiled at Kate then looked at Devlin and family. "Getting ready for the school year?"

"Yea, this is my family. This is my mom, Ester and my dad, Peter." Kate grinned mischievously and she playfully ruffled Devlin's hair. "And this here is Devlin, my little brother. He's joining Hogwarts this year. You don't have to be kind to him." Kate smiled and gestured her family to Cho. Devlin gave a grumpy look but then smiled at Cho. "This is Cho Chang. She's in the same year as me. One of the smartest I know, and the Ravenclaw Princess!"

Cho laughed "Nice to meet you all. Such a nice compliment from the Hufflepuff Swan Princess."

Kate turned red. "Shhhhh! Who told you that?"

"Marietta did. She told me some Hufflepuffs upperclassmen started calling you that when they saw you practice in the dorms." Cho explained.

"Hmmmm, I see." Devlin interrupted and grinned. "What a difference from our Nutcracker Princess! You know in the muggle world she...mmmffM" Kate covered Devlin's mouth to shut him up.

"Whats this? Nutcracker Princess? Quick tell me more." Cho approached Devlin while he's confined by Kate.

"It's nothing Cho! I'll explain later! I swear!" Kate said. "Ahem, uh, so what brings you to the Quidditch store? Going to try out this year?" Kate tries to change the subject quickly

"Yea, My mom over there is buying a broomstick for me." Kate pointed at a pretty adult woman with also dark hair that looks similar to Cho over at the buying a broom. "I love Quidditch!" Cho pointed at her blue badge on her jacket. "I'm a big fan of Tutshill Tornadoes. I have hopes for them this year!"

"I see. It seemed like a lot of fun when it we were watching the house matches. I want to give it a try. And there aren't many sports in the muggle world where male and females complete together." Kate said

"Actually..." Peter weighed in. "I've read a little about it through the news. Could you explain to us about Quidditch? What would you recommend? I'm a bit lost here."

Cho smiled. She was about to explain but her mother approached from behind. "Hey Cho, I got your broomstick." Cho's mother walked by who completed buying the broomstick. "Who are they?" she asked.

"Oh hello, my name is Peter Delwyn. My daughter is classmates with your daughter. She also has an interest in Quidditch. We come from a muggle family so we're not too familiar with this. But seeing as your daughter seems to also have an interest in this sport, do you mind if I can ask some questions about this?"

Cho's mother smiled. "Oh sure. Here let me explain." Cho's mother introduced herself and explained the rules and sports about Quidditch. After clarifying some concerning questions, Peter went ahead and agreed for Kate to join. Peter went with the flow and bought the same broomstick as Cho since it was what was recommended to them, the Comet 260.

Cho and her Mother along with the Delwyn family both leave the store with both Cho and Kate carrying their broomsticks all wrapped up.

"Madam Chang, thanks so much for your help." Peter said to Madam Chang.

"It is our pleasure. Good luck with everything. We are going to meet up with my Husband, so we'll be going this way. It was a pleasure meeting you all." Madam Chang and Cho then leave in their own direction.

"What a nice mother daughter pair." Ester said.

"Yea. Cho is pretty popular. She's friendly with everyone. She must've gotten it from her mom. Her mom seems just as friendly." Kate said.

Devlin was getting entertained every time he bumps into known characters in the Harry Potter stories. He thought it was like watching the scenes from a different point of view from the novel.

First he found out that Hermione is in the same primary school as him. He didn't really become close with her, but her existence is what convinced him this is different from his previous life. Her situation in school wasn't all that different from the beginning years in Hogwarts. And just like in Hogwarts, she was a top student in his school.

He then befriended the Weasley family, where their families became acquainted. They didn't have any opportunities to hang out in person, but his mom became quite close to Mrs. Weasley and the kept in touch regularly.

And now he met the famous Cho Chang. Harry's first known crush. While things didn't end well with Cho and Harry, no one was really to blame. The timing and situation wasn't right for any of them.

"Well since its right here, shall we go ahead and get your wand Devlin?" Ester smiled as she looked at Ollivanders Wand Shop.

Devlin smiled and stared at the shop. He will finally get his wand. His inner nerd once again starts showing as he look at the shop as if destiny was awaiting him behind the door.

"This is it..The time has come for destiny to..."

"Dev! Why are just standing there? We're going in without you." Kate said as everyone walks into the store.

"My moment..." Devlin sighs and stumbles into the store.
